Ive explained this to many Rs when they were going on and on about the great Reagan 1986 bipartisan tax if 1986.
If you stayed in the same bracket (as I did) your taxes went up sharply as you had lost most deductions that were available to the unpropertied. If you were really unlucky you jumped brackets (with $0 income gain) due to the collapsing of the number of brackets from 15 to 5.
But those with higher incomes saw huge double digit tax decreases which dwarfed any loss of tax deductions. Oh, and this real property owning demographic saw the value of the home owners mortgage deduction increase.
It was this arithmetic dichotomy that came close to causing two different fights between me and my substantially better off good friends.
Many of us got screwed but some of us made out like bandits because the top marginal rate dropped from 50% to 35%. And, most likely, this same demographic also saw themselves pushed into a much lower starting bracket.
Thanks so much!
How to post an OP in the Right place
ive been told a number of times that the replies Ive made on other threads would be better if they were their own opinion pieces.
ive been a lurker since the year 2000 and have posted a few replies to threads that I find compelling.
I know how to create an op. What I dont know is how to put it in the right place.
im sure theres an FAQ somewhere. could someone provide a little guidance.
thanks in advance.
Trump is the swamp
32 years of unalloyed evil
I was introduced to Limbaugh in 94 and he was spewing lies and hatred and divisiveness back then. The person that encouraged me to listen had the 1st case of Hillary/Bill Clinton derangement syndrome I encountered.
John was a good man who later worked tirelessly to get me an opportunity to move into sales with a rapidly ascending tech company right when the internet revolution was taking off.
After he was able to retire because we were making so much money his political psychosis deepened. When he sent me a venomous screeching email accusing me of being a seditious, treasonous scum for not supporting Bush/Cheneys impending invasion of Iraq I dropped him. I had not sent him any emails or communicated with him about Iraq. He knew that I would be completely opposed to the folly of Iraq and would be able to explain why and dismantle any of
the specious arguments Limbaugh and Fox had mustered. So he indulged in a unilateral drunken attack.
Limbaugh, Bill Kristol, and Fox had hollowed out this mans intelligence and filled his mind and soul with a restless expanding hatred.
I will never forgive Limbaugh. He is fully evil.
I believe he knew better and cared for nothing beyond the money and the fame and the power. He is
a glaring example of how power corrupts even the best of us.
I do not believe in hell, but Limbaugh deserves to die in agony. His legacy is the total corruption of our national discourse. He has normalized the worst we can possibly be. Worse than that he stole one of my very best friends from me.
Que horror!
