Walnut Eyes

Walnut Eyes

I think it was the eyes at first,
so dark, like polished walnut.
Almond shaped, with a hint of remembered sadness,
But with a gleam of promised happiness.

I remember walking in the spring,
hiding beneath a great oak tree
taking shelter from the raindrops
that ran down your face like tears
of joy.

I felt what it was like
to hold you and feel your warmth
against the cold.
To feel your arms wrapped around me
to feel your heart beat against the cold
and the thunder
and the fear of being complete
and that the feeling of completion
would last but a moment.

And yet, a moment could be an eternity
lost in those eyes
gleaming like polished walnut
smiling like hope itself
smiling for me.

PSA re: Presidential comments at Roseburg...

Note to those who are pre-loading complaints that the President will 'politicize' the shooting in Roseburg.

IMNSHO, by commenting like that, you already have politicized it.

Look in a mirror, it's a good cure for hypocrisy.

The Repub concept of 'leadership' is pretty much macho bluster...

In their minds, it consists of making decisions based on half-baked ideas and intelligence and barking orders.

Whe Dubya called himself "The Decider" the sheeple on the right were all agog at what a firm leader he was. Meanwhile anybody with any sense at all, when they heard that one, was thinking

I get where you're going...

But I don't think that is all we need. The Greeks and Romans had female deities and they were pretty violent. Granted, the female gods were often ranked inferior to the male ones in the hierarchy, but still.

It's not just that our world is run by the 'patriarchy.' After all, the system as it is hurts men, too. Somehow, the PTB gets to distort the message from 'we want women and minorities, et al, to receive equal treatment' to 'they want special treatment.'

Having a woman president would do a lot to alter perceptions of some, but there is the problem that women of power have too often been forced to work their way through a system that destroys the positive traits of their femininity. You can see that in the female Republicans that have survived the recent purge of moderates from their party. Most of the female republicans out there now would be a disaster as President, because they have become too 'Republican' in the modern sense, which seems to carry all of the worst traits of the masculine/authoritative mindset. There was a time when Republican women might have helped, but the ones out there now are, in many ways, worse then their male counterparts.

Honestly, Hillary isn't my personal choice, because of her corporate/DLC ties, but she'd be better than any Republican alternative, male or female IMHO.

Things are moving along...

I recently posted how I was planning to retire. Well after a couple of snags, things are coming together. I worked my last day on Nov 14. I got in touch with SSA and got my benefits straightened out. There had been some problems, probably my fault with my on-line application. First check (direct deposit, actually) should come in January.

I applied for an apartment the other day. Moving out of the RW hell-hole I've been in for a year.

Now, I just have to fix/replace my truck. It seems to be on its last legs.

The next chapter of my life is starting to come into shape.

Well, it's almost over...not 'almost' any more...

I've decided to retire in about 3 weeks. I turn 62 in about 2 weeks, so it is time. I'm really tired of it all.

Worked my last day yesterday.

So, I made a decision...

For better or worse, I've decided to retire. I put in my online application for my SS benefits based on my 62nd birthday coming up.

Now, I have to survive until Nov/Dec.

I just checked on line and the result was: A decision has been made and the answer is in the mail. Waiting.

Bye bye corporate Amerika and your bullshit Puritan work ethic and crap pay. I also found out I had a pension hiding in the background for 20 years or so that will help ease the transition.

I'm getting too old for that shit.

For starters, we need to stop supporting them...

I know that most Americans don't support torturers and terrorists, but our government does. And our government is driven far too much by the corporate interests, who have no concern for democracy, unless it is a 'democracy' installed and protected by our CIA and military, who have become too much an agressor to seize and protector of American 'interests,' a handy euphemism that tends to mean: Somebody's bottom line. Our recent history is littered with tyrants that we've supported in the interest of cheap oil or labor or other 'resource' that some corporatist determined was in "our" interest.

Avatar was actually kind of a lame, formulaic movie, but the central story of it is being played out now, around the world, and here's a hint: we're not the good guys.

Whole lot of Seahawks history here.

The Repub problem is...

that they're running out of sock puppets to put up as pseudo-leaders to run for the Presidency. What they have now are a bunch of multiple time losers, or relative unknowns whose claim to fame usually involves some kind of scandal or extremist bullshit. For all of their rhetoric, they don't have a credible candidate yet, and repeating the clown car searches of the last two cycles perpetuates the sense that the inmates are running the asylum.
