Does anyone know DEA rules & regulations?

I went to Costco Pharmacy to have a prescription filled for vicodin. They have been filling this script for about 8 months. I give the script to the pharmacist, do some shopping then head back to pick up the script.
The pharmacy tech asked for my ID, they've never asked in the past, but ok, I don't mind showing it to her. She then takes it from me & says she needs a copy for the "files" that it is a DEA rule that the pharmacy must have a copy of the person's ID who is receiving a controlled substance.

I can see a requirement that you furnish ID when filling & receiving a prescription for a controlled substance, but the pharmacy hanging onto that information, I have a problem with.

Does anyone know if there is such a rule. I've been googling, etc. and can't find anything yet.

As an aside, I've lost 90 lbs. since that DL photo was taken, so someone could make a case that I'm not who I am. I also take the medication for chronic pain due to spinal stenosis, a badly repaired broken hip, and sciatica.

How in the world did she know..............

I stopped in a BP mini market this morning. I walked up to the counter, a young woman was working. I didn't even open my mouth and she said "you're in a lot of pain, it's your tooth, the one that you had root canaled." All of this was said in a heavy Polish accent. She added, "your pain pills aren't going to help."

I stop in this store occasionally, there is a mix of young people that work there, but this is the first time I've met her.

She was absolutely right about the tooth ache and which one is bothering me. She is also right that my ultram and vicodin aren't helping with the pain.

I asked her how she made that observation, she said my face is a little swollen on the left side. (I can't see any swelling). I asked her if she was going to school here in the states. She said, she had gone to college in Poland, she was getting ready for her citizenship and then she wants to be a veterinarian.

With her observation skills, she should be successful.

But how the hell did she know about the root canal and the pain pills?
