I Have to Repair My Washing Machine - Yaay!

Lucky me!

Water fills just fine and doesn't leak. The spin cycle goes with no problem. It just won't agitate. It hums very loudly instead.

So, according to the sites I googled, it needs a V-Style drive belt and somebody to change it. The sites also said that it has to be changed every 2 - 3 years, depending on how much washing you do. My washer is about 9 years old, so I got away with it for longer than most.

I'm not scared. I installed my dishwasher and put in new faucets (hubby is claustrophobic and his shoulders are too big to fit under the sink). I've been putting together furniture since before Ikea was a thing. Coworkers check with me before calling IT to fix a printer jam. So I can do this.

Has anyone else done this kind of thing? Any horror stories, tips. or things to watch out for?

Cortez Masto's Statement on Franken

While Cortez Masto was not one of those who came out publicly about Franken resigning, sher has an opinion.

https://www.cortezmasto.senate.gov/news/press-releases/cortez-masto-statement-on-resignation-of-senator-al-franken

Here is the entirety:

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) released the following statement after Senator Al Franken’s announcement that he will resign:

“I am extremely disappointed in Senator Franken. The experiences shared by the brave women who have come forward show a disturbing pattern of behavior.

“Throughout my career as a prosecutor and Nevada’s Attorney General, I’ve stood up to support survivors of sexual violence and misconduct. My time working with these survivors has shown me that the epidemic of sexual harassment and sexual assault is bigger than one Senator and that the culture of the United States Congress must change. That begins with reforming the Ethics process to clearly set the highest standards of conduct for Members of Congress and to enforce severe sanctions for Members and staff that engage in this inappropriate conduct. The United States Senate must undertake a comprehensive effort to conduct the ethics process in an open, swift, and thorough manner.

“This revised process must restore the faith of the American people in this institution. I am working with my colleagues on the Rules Committee on bipartisan solutions to fix this broken and outdated process. We must stop using taxpayer dollars to settle sexual harassment claims. We must create an environment where every woman or man feels empowered to come forward. We must reform the Senate’s outdated rules and practices to reflect a higher standard of conduct for Members and staff, and protect the survivors that break their silence.”

She doesn't say anything different from what any of the others have to say.

A Question about Beef

I bought a chuck roast the other day. I was cutting it up just now when I noticed something weird. There were little black areas in the meet. The best way to describe them is that they were patterned like watermelon seeds, but they were soft and squishy. There was another black area that was more like the pattern that fat takes in beef.

Then, I looked at one "seed" and it looked like a worm, about a centimeter long. It wasn't moving.

I googled the heck out of this, but I can't find anything that matches the description of the meat I bought. Is this normal for cheap cuts of beef? Is it just coagulated bits of blood?

All this kinda freaked me out. Can anyone explain this?

Check In If You Are Stunned

I live miles away and found out about it because of a post here on DU around 11pm last night. Except for sleeping, I've been glued to local news.

Let's be a DU support group. Did you know anybody there? How are you feeling?

It Looks Like a Storm System Is Forming Just South of Baja California

I went to the wind maps to check on Jose and the new system just off Africa's west coast and it jumped out at me: there is a tight circular formation just south of Baja California's southern tip.

Here are the maps I look at. You can drag the maps anywhere you want.

I Need Help Finding a Video on YouTube

A black comedian, probably in his thirties, did a couple songs as Obama. He sat in the mountains on a cliff playing a ukulele or mandolin. It was about the sequester and one line was about how Boehner would dance like Mitzi Gaynor when he had been drinking. At the end, he dropped his mandolin over the edge and said that it was a long way down.

Please help!
