Hi! Better morning here. No power for about 14 hours yesterday, as it rained, blew and got cold.

I don't care for how the darkness settled in for months this way, either. That's what makes that solstice so welcome, we know we'll get past it. This was typical fall gale and they had to close one of the bridges over Lake Washington as the wind made it buck and water splashed the cars:

This one stayed open, but I've been on it during gales and it feels like you are going to be blown right off. It's not much different than an earthquake at times. A big wave can slap your vehicle:

Definitely better than the fate of Galloping Gertie:

So yesterday I tried using candles for light but it was so dark I could barely see a thing all day. So I bundled up and had the radio on, how awful that was. I felt like my IQ dropped in half, the fare is idiotic.

But they repored traffic and said there'd be nearly foot of snow in the mountains. Also that it'd drop to the thirties and gave update on how many people were still without power.

I was here with no heat, of course. Beginning to wonder if it'd be days before the lights would come back on, but they are great with this where I live. Still, it was weird and tiresome, no natural light to use, and I could not make enough light to read anything. But I knew that they were working hard on it:

The workers finally got the power back on just after 10 PM. I've got to catch up around here. Three cheers for the hard working, always ready, light company crews!

It's cool today, and will probably get down to freezing tonight. So here's to staying warm:

Sheshe!

Timely Message!

It's part of the ACA, already passed as protection for SS and Medicare funding.

There is a well-heeled demographic that squealed loudly about that part early on. But I doubt they saw how dangerous getting in bed with the teas is.

Since the teas would have stopped or delayed their SS; reduced their SS to 41% as part of the teas' 'managed catastrophe' or played the debt game until their investments went belly up.

And all taxation is redistribution; the Founders saw it that way; and it was intended as 'class warfare' for the many against the remnants of the implacable rich and the budding class of aristocrats of their day, whom they considered a threat.

I love Christmas in all its forms, and buy all the gifts before Halloween. No last minute rush.

I think I've always enjoyed the pagan European aspects, the holly wreath, trees, garlands and all that stuff; but the manger scenes have been a favorite, too. And the lights!

Oh, wow, that's the best, with some of the music. It's a good way to end the year, looking ahead. And it just feels good, or at least it used to feel that way.

I don't care for the 'war on Christmas' thing, the right wingers try to make it a line in the sand or an exclusive holiday season for one faith, actually taunting about the wording and not the spirit, that it's only about one, when it really isn't.

JMHO.

He said the same stuff about Janet Reno. He is an expert on this subject. Just watch:

Alex Jones Says Gay People are Created by the Government

Uploaded on Jun 11, 2010

Weird that the evil, all knowing and all powerful gubbermint that has it out for all patriots hasn't taken Alex out yet.

But then, he is on a mission from gawd like Cruz and Delay, and they can't touch him, right?

I always heard that the devil looks after his own. There are other videos of him literally foaming at the mouth. He claims to be an Christian. Is he possessed?

Sheshe, I fear it goes a bit deeper than hatred. This is the same strategy the Nazis used to ruin

the Wiemar Republic which had civil rights and a safety net similar to ours before Reagan in some respects.

A government of 'We The People' works for the majority and not a minority of conservative interests no matter how they fit it into ideology.

Another word for the deliberate process the GOP has employed is 'destabilization' to make people lose confidence and mistrust in their government so they no longer are willing to work for democratic goals. That energy will be absorbed into cults by demagoges.

Economic collapses have been engineered by regressive forces before to benefit the rich and powerful, and they are quite good at it. The tecnhique is very old, just the means of doing it have changed.

When they stopped calling it that and using euphemisms, of course.

That was what they called MIC contractors when I was a kid. It was a term imbued with evil, a perjorative on the same level as a Nazi, rapist or murderer.

Then the Cold War with its 'better dead than red' propaganda started; and people never restarted thinking straight again. Besides, there was good money to be made by some.

Eisenhower was caught up in the paradigm that many from WW2 were; they were adamant that it would not happen again, just as the Jews said about Germany, 'never again.' Vigilant to the point of vociferous opposition to any other way to do things.

Eisenhower still had some of the older values in him and put a tax on the firms that made a fortune supplying the means to victory over Germany, no gratitude really, he knew what they were.

It was punitive and used to build infrastructure by taking back their profits. Possibly the highest tax rate, IIRC, it was 90%.

The Birchers have been running on preventing the castles of the super rich from being stormed by the tax man ever since that time to take back their booty from a nation in dire straits and in a war against a foe that intended no less than world domination. There is no such nation to carry this out now. Instead, other groups are doing the same thing.

When the words profit, jobs, contracts and the like in terms of national policy and specifically anything militatistic or coercive are eliminated as from public discourse as being a criminal act, we will see the end of this. But we are faced with a media that tells our fellows otherwise.

There are things on this planet that cannot be justly measured by profit or even humans. We have no right to do many of the things we do, we are abusing our privileges and killing that which gives life.

Why I love Michio Kaku

Recorded during the Bush reign of terror, but it's not primarily about him. It's about peace, the USA, history, how we got where we are now, and more important, how to change. I agree and was part of those who had converged on D.C. We see how cavalier the attitude on using nuclear weapons was. Kaku mentions Social Security and there is no lack of money. We cannot trust the MIC with our lives; that is not their function, is it?

Wish someone of his wisdom was on the Murray-Ryan committee.

I saw Kaku's solution to Fukushima almost immediately after it happened. He was brought into physics by Edward Teller, and diverged from his path early on. He knows the way these guys think.

The CWC was a step in bringing the major powers back to sanity and away from MAD. We must never forget, as he says, that it is not Peace through Strength but Strength through Peace. PBO's version says the days of Might Makes Right must pass away, and that Right Makes Might is the way we must pursue. His and Kaku's versions mean the same thing.

The society Michio describes here and what Democrats want to return to, is that we had a few decades ago. Instead we are heading to The Demon Haunted World feared by Carl Sagan, who saw what was coming.

The world that Kaku describes and that we work for is the only path worth taking. What has been done in our name is wrong and it is unsustainable. But note that he also knew, it was the reservoir of peace loving Americans who stopped the Vietnam War, not flight from civic responsibility. We have a choice to make as to how we will go forward.

Will we, as Lincoln said, be the agents of our own destruction?

...Shall we expect some transatlantic military giant, to step over the ocean, and crush us at a blow?

Never! All the armies of Europe, Asia and Africa combined, with all the treasure of the earth (our own excepted) in their military chest; with a Bonaparte for a commander, could not by force, take a drink from the Ohio, or make a track on the Blue Ridge, in a trial of a Thousand years. At what point, then, is the approach of danger to be expected?

I answer, if it ever reach us, it must spring up amongst us. It cannot come from abroad. If destruction be our lot, we must ourselves be its author and finisher. As a nation of freemen, we must live through all time, or die by suicide...

~Abraham Lincoln

Just a few thoughts. I think the words of Michio here are worthy of a deep discussion of how we want to live.
