I saw "Compliance" this afternoon

After about a half hour into the film, the thought that kept running through my head was from John Dean's book, Conservatives Without Conscience, that approximately 30% of the population are authoritarian followers. The compliant people in the movie are authoritarian followers. I kept waiting to see where they would draw the line but soon determined they have no moral core of their own but follow whomever they perceive to be an authority. I ended up thinking that they represent the lack of thinking skills found in conservative politics.

The problem is, lying is not a disgrace to the

Mormon church if it is in furtherance of Mormon interests. Romney, being a "prince" of the church, becoming President would definitely fit the definition and therefore any lies told are ok with them.

I didn't see the OP as mockery

I saw it as confirmation that Romney is devout in his faith and because he wears the symbols of his faith (the underwear), he would bring the tenants of his religion to the way he would govern. That means that we MUST investigate the Mormon beliefs, beginning with the one that says a Mormon will be elected to the White House and will take orders from the LDS elders. This and other Mormon dogma is very serious information we need in order to base a voting decision.

John F. Kennedy was also feared in the beginning because of his Catholic faith. He was asked about where his loyalties would be if he became President. He gave an answer to sufficiently allayed the fears and convinced the voters that his loyalties were with the United States and the Constitution and laws of the US. Romney has not made such a statement which leaves the question open.

So, examination of his demonstrations of faith has a real place in the investigation of his worthiness, goals and plans for the Presidency. For me, based on what I've read about the faith and what I know from my own experience, I would never vote for him. But then, I would never vote Republican anyway.

I'm so saddened by what I see

I've always been a believer in live-and-let-live. These right-wingers want to determine every phase of your life, and if you are a woman, of your body. And yet they have no compassion or interest in helping the young, the elderly, the poor, the disabled. And yet they call themselves Christians.

It's been said that the first one to mention Nazis loses the argument. But facts remain facts. I looked up articles about the rise of Nazism to see what parallels there are to modern times. There seems to be the same lack of compassion for the "other" combined with financially difficult times. All the Germans needed was someone (Hitler) to direct their frustration and anger at a scapegoat and they were off to the races. There is the same scapegoating here but this time it's the poor, minorities, immigrants and women.

The loss of civil rights in Germany in the late 30's was justified as being in the national interest. That period of time wasn't so long ago that it is lost in history. We all need to read about the rise of the Third Reich in order to understand what intellectual disassociation can be achieved by good propaganda so we can resist it here.

Romney knows the fix is in

He doesn't have to try, he doesn't have to woo the voters, he doesn't need a comprehensive plan, he doesn't have to even show up. The Republicans underestimated the margin by which they needed to cheat in 2008. They won't be making that mistake again. Republicans own the voting machines which means they control the outcome. I won't be at all surprised if he wins -- I'll vomit for a week, but I won't be surprised.

I also had an ectopic pregnancy

Incredible pain, ambulance, siren, flashing lights, emergency surgery at midnight -- it had already ruptured and I was bleeding internally. The minute that fertilized egg embedded itself in my fallopian tube, it became my murderer. It was well on its way to killing me. That fertilized egg was not going to live -- it would either die when they removed the tube or it would die when I did. It is beyond grotesque to think that a bunch of men in a room thousands of miles from where I was could make laws determining that I would die just so they could preach how virtuous they were and how "godly" they were. Fuck the lot of them.

This touches on an issue that is irking me more and more

That is, as left/progressive/Dems, we are supposed to keep quiet, don't upset anyone else, don't offend anyone, don't mention politics, don't, don't, don't. While the right/regressive/Repubs are free to lie, slander, and obfuscate at will. No restraints for them, no admonitions to avoid upsetting or offending anyone, just run shit out of their mouths whenever and wherever.

I understand that when dealing with family, you have choices to make, however, if any one of them sends you political, racial, or otherwise offensive material, I would either respond in kind or tell them that they need to stop.

Why do the Repubs get a free ride?

It is also a demonstration

of the low esteem in which they hold women. Their thinking is that women's only role in society is to have children, so the method of conception is not an issue. No matter how women find themselves pregnant, the righties think that so what, that's what they're supposed to do.

(getting up on her soapbox)

A particular concern which doesn't seem to get mentioned much is an exception for the life of the woman. More specifically, ectopic (tubal) pregnancy. A FERTILIZED egg becomes lodged in the fallopian tube, causing it to stretch and eventually rupture causing internal hemorrhaging which can be fatal without surgical intervention to remove the tube along with the fertilized egg. If this "personhood" shit gets adopted, it would be a death sentence for a woman with an ectopic pregnancy. I've been there -- ruptured ectopic pregnancy, internal bleeding, emergency surgery at midnight. My life was saved. All women in similar circumstances should have the best technology available to save her life. The fertilized egg will die either way -- the question is, will anyone else die?

It all makes sense -- in a strange way

Mitt is saying just trust me -- leave the details until later.

When Mitt was a missionary for his church, the theory of lying for the Lord and "milk before meat" was the same plan.

As I posted in another thread:

"Lying for the lord" is part of Mormonism's larger deceptive mainstreaming tactics, and conversion numbers would drastically lower if important Mormon beliefs were fully disclosed to investigators."
"Many have argued, often under the guise of 'milk before meat,' that we must not disillusion the new or weak with all-too-human history or the questioning of the Lord’s anointed–questioning being by definition under this theory, criticism, even heresy. Better the lie."

It has come full circle -- this describes Mitt's election campaign. Milk before meat.
