Someone needs to ask Rooney to define his terms.

"Purge" means what? Remove from the investigation? Reassigned to a different department? Fired from any government job? Indicted? Jailed? Dare I ask, executed?

Who should be purged? Anyone who said anything against Trump? Anyone who voted for someone other than Trump? Anyone who contributed to the campaign of anyone other than Trump? Anyone who ever voted for a party other than Republican? Anyone whose significant other has been disloyal?

Does he suggest loyalty oaths? If so, loyalty to Constitution and rule of law? Country? Party? Trump?

When some pin-head makes a sweeping dramatic pronouncement, we need to make them describe in detail their plan to carry out their proposal. Otherwise its just so much hot air and should be exposed for pandering. I'm sick of letting them frame the issues and the press letting them go unchallenged.

Depends on how he goes

If he should suddenly succumb to the ravages of a lifetime of fast food, I would go to my room and do a private little happy dance for about an hour. Don't want to publicaly disrespect the dead.

If he is impeached, I'll take to the streets and dance and laugh with what likely will be every Democrat in Western Washington.

If, he leaves office after a full term, after heaving a huge sigh of relief, I'll cry buckets of tears for all the damage he caused.

If, however, he leaves after two terms, there won't be much to do because I would have already expired from lack of Medicare.

I did some binge-watching on a cable station yesterday

Forgot which one. It ran consecutive documentaries about the rise of Hitler. I watched for two reasons: 1) I never did understand why the German people went along with it all, and 2) are there any parallels to today's US. Got answers to both questions.

First, Hitler preyed on the general anti-semitism of the time. He gave the country a singular enemy that everyone could agree was the cause of all the money problems and the reparations required for WWI. And, additionally, as the Jews were removed, all their assets (homes, farms, money, art, etc.) were gobbled up by Nazi party members and the whole country felt they were turning the economic corner.

Secondly, Trump is trying to give the US two enemies to rally against: Hispanics and Moslems. We don't have the same economic conditions that existed in Germany post-WWI, but with the disasterous tax cuts in the works and the resulting overwhelming debt, we soon could be in danger. With cut-backs in all social programs needed in order to pay for the rich peoples' tax cuts, we will have a lot of people in poverty, hungry, sick and homeless. THESE are the conditions that will be fertile grounds for the seeds of racism that are being sown which could lead to the rise of a dictator who promises to fix it all.

The US has maintained relative stability because of a wide, stable middle class. Trump/Republicans are a threat to that balance.

As a side-note, I nearly spewed when I saw the part where Hitler told his generals he knew more than they did about warfare. (sound familiar?) It was clear that Germany started losing the war in the East when Hitler fired his experienced generals, surrounded himself with sycophants and took charge of the military action on his own.

I've been pondering the deplorable state of things

And I've come up with this theory: both Trump AND Tillerson are Russian agents.

Trump was (probably unwittingly) recruited for his ignorance and his vanity for the purpose of creating enough chaos to throw up a smoke screen while...

Tillerson (Putin's award-winning buddy) dismantles the State Department by removing as many career diplomats who have all the skill and knowledge to maneuver the US in a very complex world.

I believe it was Russians who recommended Tillerson to Trump who had never known him before.

And the result is plain to see.

I'm 72

Sexism and its ramifications have been with me since the beginning.

When I first looked for a job it was in the want ads under the heading Jobs For Women, not Jobs For Men.

In high school I was told I should take typing and shorthand so I could get a job later.

In civics class, when the class discussed the comparative provisions of constitutions of various countries, I was told I couldn't participate because I was to take notes for the class. The boys were allowed to do all the talking.

My parents said the only reason to send me to college was to get my Mrs. degree. They thought being around college students would ensure that I "married up".

And there are many more, none being dramatic, but the cumulative message was always there: women just aren't good enough.

Subtle, but always there.

I think there are various shades of grey

Many years ago, as I was standing at the copier in the office, a new employee came up beside me and placed a hand somewhere between my hip and my butt cheek and spoke to me.

I (female) nicely said that it may have been acceptable in the employee's former office in (don't remember which state) but in our area it wasn't acceptable for employees to touch one another. Apologies offered and accepted. Incident over. No hard feelings. Worked together for a number of years afterwards.

Was this sexual harassment or merely an innocent gesture, the same as touching someone's arm when talking. Would it have been different if the employee was a women? By the way, it was a woman. Like I said, shades of grey.

I agree with Sen. Franken that there should be an investigation to determine where these incidents fall on the spectrum before sentence is passed.

A note from a non-cook

Ok, I admit it, I don't cook any more. Too old, retired, too much trouble to bother. Well, today, I got a wild inclination to actually Bake something! I sorted through a few cake recipes and found a very simple one, so simple, the cookbook actually called it "busy day cake". Pretty much a dump and beat thing. So I started off. Dry ingredients, ok, put them in the bowl. Hmm, only shortening I had on hand was one that was butter flavored. Figured it couldn't hurt, so I put that in the bowl, too. But then I came to the vanilla. Searched the cupboard, shelf by shelf, and there was no vanilla. At this point, I'm too far along in the process to give up so I had to figure out something else. I first looked for either almond or lemon flavoring, but I had neither. However, I had some instant coffee, the Goddess only knows how old that is! Figured a teaspoon or so of that would give it some flavor. But then I spied the box of dark chocolate. About six teaspoons later, I figured there was enough. Beat the batter the two minutes called for. Put it in the baking dish, into the oven, crossed my fingers. Well it came out of the oven about 10 minutes ago. I couldn't wait any longer so I cut myself a piece. As I write this, I'm savoring the very last crumbs of that first, still warm, piece. It came out perfectly!! Light, lots of flavor. Good enough to leave off frosting. Wish I could take some credit for the substitutions, but I must call it dumb luck.

Anyone else have a success-by-accident in the kitchen?
