Thanks for the article...

... I read it and the other articles referenced in other posts about the incidents where undercover police were exposed during protests.

From the article: "...the agency and other police departments have had plainclothes officers dressed in protester attire walking in these marches since the first demonstration Nov. 24, and he said they will continue to employ this tactic..."

This is essentially the response given by the Canadian authorities also, to incidents that were linked to in other posts in this thread.

In other words, these are not "agent provocateurs", they are undercover surveillance, intelligence gathering in support of crowd control. This is far more "active" than the "report filers" that I was describing, but it essentially falls into the same category and represents a legitimate police function.

As far as there actually being violent hoodlums and vandals amongst these protestors,in support of whatever "anarchists" or other ideology they identify with, it isn't very hard to find confirmation. Just to prove this point, I did a very cursory web search and very easily found one such advocate of violence, a fellow named Gord Hill who goes by the name of Zig Zag on line and has been publishing advice and encouragement for "black bloc" protest tactics for some number of years on several web sites. His latest post (on Warrior Publications) is advice to help protect the identity of the minority of protestors in Ferguson who employed the violent and destructive tactics he advocates. His "about" page gives his eMail address, and I'm sure that, as long as it does not involve any actually incriminating self-confessions, he would be happy to explain his motivations for advocating violence, vandalism and disruption as protest tactics.

In other words, the black bloc is real and the vandalism is real. And, as you pointed out, the undercover police presence is real - and justified.

The fires in Furgison...

...weren't caused by spontaneous combustion. The were caused by incendary devices like this one. After one prominent "protestor" urged the crowd to and “Burn this bitch down”.

I'm glad the cops are taking this threat serriously, and anyone caught with molotov cocktail at a protest should be arrested and jailed immediatly.

Between this and Edward Snowden, The Guardian is really going down a few notches in my mind!

The email, allegedly from a secret whistle-blowing employee of the ESA, accuses the agency of “blatant cover-ups” in wanting to land on the speeding comet and attaches photos which claim to reveal the “true inner workings of Comet 67P”.

I wonder how long he'll be hold up in the Moscow airport before Putin grants him asylum?

I think you'e got it!  (Or maybe Snowden's working for ESA now?)

BTW, since I'm mentioning Snowden in this email, I'd like to say hi to my sister and brother-in-law at NSA.  I hope things are going well and that you have a nice Thanksgiving!

The Dude Needs a Vacation....

Wheeler tried to pull out of his garage only to find his driveway blocked by protesters... He complained how the process has become "politicized".

Politicized...? DUH!

This quote is basically fake, and very missleading....

...Mussolini did not say this, although he did talk about "corporatism". However, the "corporatism" he was referring to is a moderate form of guild socialism or syndicalism. Mussolini was claiming that fascism was in actuality the realization of the goals and ideals of guild socialism / syndicalism.

The imminent backlash, take two: The Resurgent Left.

The resurgent progressives are battling a double standard. They are asking why it is that “populism” is a good thing when it’s invoked by the tea party against “liberal elites” but suddenly a bad thing when it describes efforts to raise the minimum wage and take other steps toward a fairer system of economic rewards.

And here’s why moderates should be cheering them on: When politicians can ignore the questions posed by the left and are pushed to focus almost exclusively on the right’s concerns about “big government” and its unquestioning faith in deregulated markets, the result is immoderate and ultimately impractical policy. To create a real center, you need a real left.
