reACTIONary's JournalKoch-backed group fuels opposition to school mask mandates, leaked letter shows

A template letter circulated by Independent Womens Forum offers a glimpse into a well-resourced campaign against public health regulations.
The document offers a rare glimpse into the inner workings of a well-financed conservative campaign to undermine regulations that health authorities say are necessary to contain the coronavirus. The frustration of many parents who want a greater say is deeply felt, school superintendents say. But their anger is also being fueled by organized activists whose influence is ordinarily veiled.
The letter was made available on Tuesday to paying members of the Independent Womens Network, a project of the Independent Womens Forum and Independent Womens Voice that markets itself as a members-only platform that is free from censorship and cancellation. Both are nonprofits once touted by their board chairman and CEO, Heather Higgins, as part of a unique tool in the Republican conservative arsenal because, Being branded as neutral but actually having the people who know, know that youre actually conservative puts us in a unique position.

Trump played tough with Putin when cameras were around, while Putin toyed with his insecurities, a n
Little is known about what happened in the 90-minute conversation between President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Osaka, Japan, two years ago. But as journalists were quickly ushered out of the room at the 2019 Group of 20 Summit, Stephanie Grisham once again found herself with a close-up view of the action.
She saw Trump lean toward Putin that day and tell him: Okay, Im going to act a little tougher with you for a few minutes. But its for the cameras, and after they leave, well talk. You understand.

A teen posted that she had covid-19. Police said she was causing trouble -- and threatened jail time.
https://wapo.st/3ia9VCb (No paywall, enjoy)If [the post] doesnt come down, the sheriff has directed me to issue disorderly conduct citations, if not start taking people to jail, the Marquette County, Wis., sergeant told Cohoons father, according to dash-cam video obtained by The Washington Post. Because it is causing a disturbance to the public.
People need to know that this [stuff] is going on and it doesnt do any good when you cant warn them, when you got a sheriffs department threatening to throw people in jail over it, her father argued.
Weighing in last week, the judge rejected the sheriffs suggestion that Cohoons behavior was comparable to screaming fire in a crowded movie theater. He also said that the arguments that authorities were engaging in persuasion rather than coercion fall flat, because that ignored the inherently chilling and coercive nature of a uniformed police officer showing up at a teenagers home and demanding that she cease otherwise protected speech.
"its a very strong statement that cops cant police social media, her lawyer said.

B-TFG I never read anything by ....
Before TFG I would never read anything by Jenifer Rubin. I studiously avoided her column, as I did George F Will. (What does that F stand for? I have an idea, maybe you can provide your own speculation below .)
However, when she went NEVER TFGer, I started reading what she had to say. (Not so with George F? Will, even if he was a N-TFGer.)
Rubin has a book out about how TFG "woke" women, including herself, in opposition. ("Woke" is my term, she didn't use it.)
Here is an excerpt from WaPo. This is a bit of an experiment. The link is a "gift" that avoids the paywall. Let me know if it works or not.

He was one of the first Jan. 6 defendants to plead guilty to a felony. Now he wants to take it back.
The first person to be sentenced for a felony in the Jan. 6 Capitol attack now says he was bullied by his attorney into pleading guilty and would like to take it back.....
Paul Hodgkins, 38, was sentenced in July to eight months in prison after pleading guilty to one felony count of obstructing a joint session of Congress meeting to confirm the results of the 2020 president election. While he did not engage in violence, he carried a Trump flag onto the Senate floor after lawmakers had been forced to flee. A federal prosecutor had asked for an 18-month sentence, calling the riot an act of terrorism....
The Justice Department has insisted that anyone who entered the Senate chamber on Jan. 6 plead guilty to a felony. Some defense attorneys had urged the others to hold out and see whether the government relented at the prospect of going to trial in hundreds of cases. But (the defendant's former attorney told his current attorney) that the United States makes offers with a take it or leave it attitude.
