Anti-LGBTQ Activist Hotze Compares Drag Queen Storytime to Pedophilia, Calls on Houston to Ban It

ORIGINAL POST:

The anti-LGBTQ Houston Area Pastor Council sent an email to supporters Thursday, July 19 attacking Houston’s Drag Queen Storytime.

The Pastor Council email calls attention to a KHOU-TV story about a July 9 installment of Drag Queen Storytime at the Heights Branch of the Houston Public Library.

“TXPC NOTE: Pastors and responsible parents, please make sure to click on the top image and watch the full news story – it is truly unbelievable,” the Pastor Council wrote above the KHOU story in its email.

The Pastor Council also underlined and highlighted in red this sentence from the KHOU story: “The story time was geared towards children between 18 months old and 10 years old. (emphasis added).”

Omaha labor federation endorses Bob Krist's gubernatorial bid

The 20,000-member Omaha Federation of Labor announced its support Tuesday for Democratic gubernatorial nominee Bob Krist, citing his legislative record of support for working Nebraskans.

"Senator Krist, unlike his opponent, understands what it is like for the everyday working Nebraskan in this state," federation president Mike McDonnell said.

Krist, an Omaha state senator, is matched against Republican Gov. Pete Ricketts in November's general election.

McDonnell, an Omaha state senator, said Krist "recognizes the need to support policies such as the rights of workers to collectively bargain" and believes "workers should be paid competitive wages and benefits for their honest day's work."

Gage County will appeal Beatrice 6 ruling to US Supreme Court

BEATRICE — Gage County plans to appeal the Beatrice 6 case to the U.S. Supreme Court.

Wednesday, the county board met for nearly two hours in closed session with attorneys in the case before deciding to appeal a recent decision by the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals.

County Board Chairman Myron Dorn said the county has a seven-day stay on the $28.1 million judgment and is going to ask for an extension while the county appeals. He speculated it would be several months before a decision is made if the appeal is successful.

Gage County has spent more than $1.76 million in legal fees fighting the case. Dorn said that despite the hefty price tag, the county is examining every option in the case.

Joe Ricketts finishes expensive Nebraska religious retreat

GRETNA, Neb. (AP) — Through a large gate, past a gatehouse and up a winding road, Joe Ricketts' multimillion-dollar religious retreat center near the Platte River is finished and awaits its first guests.

"I'm really quite pleased," Ricketts said of his finished product, which sits on more than 900 acres near Nebraska Highway 31 and Fishery Road south of Gretna.

The Omaha World-Herald reports that the completed Cloisters on the Platte, Ricketts' passion project 20 years in the making, is luxurious. Guests will park in an underground parking garage designed to look like a cliff face. They'll take shuttles up the hill to the main retreat campus, featuring lakes, forest and sprawling, well-manicured lawns.

A chapel modeled after St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Omaha and a massive main building sit beside a small lake. Visible in the distance are seven guest lodges, each designed by a different architect. And across the lake, scattered throughout a 2,500-foot trail that winds through the trees and up and down hills, are life-size sculptures marking the 14 Stations of the Cross.

Aesthetically, the campus is akin to a country club mixed with a lake resort, though its purpose is purely spiritual, said Ricketts, the billionaire founder of TD Ameritrade and father of Nebraska Gov. Pete Ricketts.

Nazi propaganda found in several Little Free Libraries around Lincoln

Several Little Free Libraries in Lincoln had Nazi propaganda found in them Saturday, community members and Little Free Library stewards said.

Bob DiPaolo, a steward of the group, said 17 of the small boxes, which are located in neighborhoods throughout Lincoln, had the books placed in them.

The Lincoln Police Department was called to investigate one of the libraries at the 3200 block of T street, and Capt. Donald Scheinost said a book titled "You and Your Folk" was removed from the library. The same book was found in the other libraries as well.

Nebraska niobium mine's quest to raise a billion dollars gets boost from Trump administration

WASHINGTON — Calls from interested investors are pouring in to the company seeking to open a niobium mine in southeast Nebraska.

And the increased activity is thanks in part to Trump administration moves highlighting the national importance of critical minerals.

NioCorp Developments Ltd. has been working for years on the project that would pull niobium, scandium and titanium from the ground near Elk Creek.

The administration has identified all three of those elements as critical to U.S. economic and national security.

Democrat challenging Sen. Deb Fischer releases TV ad

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — The Democratic candidate challenging Nebraska U.S. Sen. Deb Fischer has released a television ad accusing the Republican incumbent of not looking out for the interests of Nebraska farmers being hurt by President Donald Trump's trade dispute with China and other countries.

The televised ad by Democrat Jane Raybould is the first in the 2018 general election race. It was revealed Thursday at a news conference in Lincoln.

Raybould said the campaign ad is "shining a spotlight on Sen. Fischer's failure to not only stand up for Nebraska's agricultural economy, but her gross malpractice in working against our state's interests."

The Fischer campaign dismissed the ad's criticism of the senator's record on agriculture, saying "her 40-year record of accomplishments and bipartisan support from across Nebraska's ag community are simply unmatched."

Nearly naked demonstrators at 72nd and Dodge Streets in Omaha draw police response

About five people wearing next to nothing demonstrated Saturday at one of Omaha’s busiest intersections : 72nd and Dodge Streets.

Police responded about 6 p.m. to investigate a report of indecent exposure. Officers discovered several females in bikini bottoms with only pasties covering their breasts, said Officer Michael Pecha, an Omaha police spokesman.

At least one witness described the demonstrators as a man in a swimsuit and four naked women. The demonstration was believed to be about Club Omaha, which has nude dancing. A judge recently dismissed the owner’s lawsuit against the Nebraska Legislature and several state officials. The suit was in response to a law regulating bottle clubs.

Police at Saturday’s scene were determining whether to ticket the demonstrators when they walked away and went back to Club Omaha, Pecha said. The group entered the club before any individuals could be identified, he said.

Governor candidate Bob Krist says state should spend more on Nebraska job training

If elected governor, Bob Krist would spend five times more on the Nebraska job training fund.

Krist, a Democratic state senator from Omaha, is challenging Republican Gov. Pete Ricketts in the Nov. 6 general election.

Krist wants the state to prioritize job training, he said at a press conference with officials from the Omaha Federation of Labor, which has endorsed him. The group has 20,000 members in the Omaha metro area.

Krist criticized Ricketts for his plan to include a $5 million appropriation for workforce development in Ricketts’ unsuccessful tax overhaul proposal. Krist thinks that amount is not enough, and he says he would put $25 million or even $35 million into the fund.
