Pilar Sanders has been sentenced to seven days in jail.
After hearing from witnesses and attorneys for Deion Sanders, District Judge Ray Wheless found Pilar Sanders in contempt for failing to return her children after her visitation as ordered in the divorce decree and for taking possession of them when she shouldn’t have. He ordered her to be jailed 30 days, but then suspended and probated that sentence for one year. Still, as part of the probation, he ordered her to serve a week behind bars in county lock-up.
As the bailiff was taking her into custody, Pilar Sanders objected to the entire proceedings. She was then escorted out of the courtroom.
She appeared in court with no attorney, saying several times that she was taking part in the proceedings only under threat, duress and coercion. “I am not a part of the United States corporation,” she told the court.

Regents to consider renaming Texas A&M's Academic Building for Gov. Rick Perry
The Texas A&M University System Board of Regents will meet Thursday to consider naming the 100-year-old Academic Building after Gov. Rick Perry.
Pending a vote of approval from the regents, the building will be renamed the "Governor Rick Perry '72 Building," according to a Monday filing by the university with the secretary of state's office, and as the Texas Tribune first reported Tuesday morning. Regents will also consider honoring Perry for his "outstanding dedication and service" as governor.
A&M Interim President Mark Hussey said in a statement: "The authority to name campus facilities has always been the ultimate responsibility of The Texas A&M University System Board of Regents. In this particular case, I was asked to provide input regarding a possible building naming opportunity to honor Governor Rick Perry for his support of Texas A&M and service to the entire State of Texas. I am supportive of honoring Governor Perry and I asked the Development Strategy Council to provide me input for the Board's consideration. I provided that information to the Chairman of the Board of Regents.”
Perry is expected to deliver the commencement convocation speech for Texas A&M graduates at Rudder Auditorium on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.

They might also want to wait on renaming any buildings for Perry until after a jury decides whether he is guilty on the two felony charges for which he was indicted.[/font]
Man accidentally shot with officer's stray bullet in Albuquerque
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — A police officer’s gun accidentally went off as he crept through a broken window during an Albuquerque burglary investigation, wounding a man in an apartment below, officials said Monday.
Police emphasized the shooting was accidental, but it occurred in an agency under intense scrutiny for a series of shootings over the past several years.
The latest incident happened early Sunday while police were investigating a break-in at a second-floor apartment, Albuquerque Police spokesman Simon Drobik said.
The officer involved was climbing through one of the unit’s windows when his gun accidentally went off, though authorities wouldn’t say why.

South Texas migrant detention center, the nation's largest, opens

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials prepared for a visit Monday by Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson to the new 50-acre migrant detention center in Dilley, the largest such facility for migrants in the country.
DILLEY — Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson came to this South Texas outpost on Monday to inaugurate a 50-acre detention center that will hold up to 2,400 migrants caught crossing the Mexican border illegally, becoming the largest immigration detention facility in the country.
Though President Barack Obama has offered work permits and protection from deportation to millions of unauthorized immigrants, he also ordered new policies to reinforce border security, hoping to prevent a new surge of illegal crossings. Johnson presided over the opening of the center in Dilley, 85 miles northeast of Laredo, to draw more attention to the border security pieces of the president’s executive actions, in response to the furor those actions caused.
The center is specially designed to house migrant women and their children as their deportation cases move through the courts.
The first wave of about 30 immigrants will begin arriving in coming weeks and the 80 tan, two-bedroom cabins will eventually hold up to 480 people. Housing being constructed nearby will push capacity to 2,400 by around May.

Brenham Synagogue Moving to Austin, and a New Life

BRENHAM — In Leon Toubin’s dreams, Jewish life would again be vibrant in this city where he and his wife, Mimi, care for the B’nai Abraham synagogue where generations of his family worshipped.
But Jews are not moving to Brenham, so Toubin has decided to cut B’nai Abraham’s roots so that it may bloom anew. He has arranged to move Texas' oldest orthodox synagogue 90 miles west to Austin, which does have a thriving Jewish community. The 121-year-old white wooden building could be trucked to the Dell Jewish Community Campus in Austin as soon as Hanukkah, which begins Tuesday evening.
Across the country, as Jews have left small towns for bigger cities, synagogues have deteriorated or been converted to churches, theaters and even a hardware store. Toubin, a cowboy-hat-wearing 86-year-old, did not want that for B’nai Abraham, which has not regularly been used for religious services in more than half a century.
“This one here, God willing, it’ll have a future,” he said.

Former UT players indicted on sexual assault charges
AUSTIN — A Travis County grand jury has indicted two former Texas wide receivers on sexual assault charges, the Austin American-Statesman reported Monday.
Montrel Meander and Kendall Sanders were dismissed from the Longhorns’ football team last summer after they were arrested in connection to a June 21 incident involving a female student at a UT residence hall. Both men face felony sexual assault charges, and Sanders also is charged with improper photography.
Meander, who would have been a sophomore this season, has a court date scheduled for Wednesday. Sanders, who would have been a junior, is due in court on Jan. 23.

'Super bacteria' found in Rio's Olympic waters
RIO DE JANEIRO
A drug-resistant "super bacteria" that's normally found in hospitals and is notoriously difficult to treat has been discovered in the waters where Rio de Janeiro's Olympic sailing events will be held, scientists said Monday.
The Instituto Oswaldo Cruz, Brazil's most respected health research institute, said it has discovered bacteria that produce an enzyme that make it resistant to most forms of treatment in water samples taken from various spots along the Carioca River. Among the spots is where the river flows into the city's Guanabara Bay, site of the 2016 sailing and wind surfing events.
Bacteria with the so-called KPC enzyme are difficult to treat. The institute said no instances of infection resulting from the contaminated water have yet been detected but warned of possible danger to swimmers.
"The illnesses caused by these microorganisms are the same as those caused by common bacteria, but they require stronger antibiotics and, sometimes, can require hospitalization," the study's coordinator, Ana Paula D'Alincourt Carvalho Assef, wrote in an email to The Associated Press. "Since the super bacteria are resistant to the most modern medications, doctors need to rely on drugs that are rarely used because they are toxic to the organism."

In the wake of controversial deaths involving police in Missouri and New York, stories of law enforcement using excessive force are on the forefront of the public's psyche.
Pete Vasquez, a 76-year-old Victoria resident, is seeing the uproar first-hand after a police officer used a Taser on him Thursday morning for a non-existent misdemeanor violation.
Vasquez's story broke Sunday morning in the Victoria Advocate and within 24 hours was shared around the world. The story became a national trend on Facebook, made the front page of online aggregator Reddit and was published to international news sites, including The Guardian, The Washington Post and The Huffington Post.

"I hate to see someone else go through the same thing I went through," Vasquez said. "I've been getting a lot of calls and comments from people that this police officer has been harassing them, too. They don't say anything because they don't want to bring it up."

Mississippi pastor wants to marry his horse
A Mississippi pastor trotted out his horse in a wedding dress to protest the marriage equality ruling in that state proving some pastors are simply horses asses.
Edward James of Bertha Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Jackson dressed a horse named Charlotte in a wedding dress and brought her to the federal courthouse in the state capital. He held a sign that read: “The next unnatural law … Do you take this horse to be your unnatural wedded spouse to have and to hold?”
Of course, no one, except this presumed heterosexual pastor, wants to marry a horse. No one in the Jackson media asked the pastor if he had already consummated his relationship with Charlotte.
While the pastor protested, Charlotte grazed on grass on the median in front of the courthouse. The Jackson Clarion-Ledger didn’t report if James was cited for allowing his fiance to eat public property or if animal control took Charlotte into custody to investigate James for abuse.

Republican Congressman Blake Farenthold Is The Proud Owner of Blow-Me.Org
Congressman Blake “Ducky Pajamas” Farenthold, who represents an area of Texas that runs from Bastrop to Corpus Christi, is the proud owner of Blow-Me.org, his spokesperson confirmed to Buzzfeed.
However, the Congressman is not planning to renew it, suggesting that the URL failed to meet Farenthold’s expectations.
Farenthold was elected in 2010 in a Republican wave that took out long-time incumbent Democratic Rep. Solomon Ortiz. He has since managed to distinguish himself not only for his infamous duck pajamas, but also for telling veterans to make sacrifices before voting to cut their disability checks and bragging to his birther constituents that the House has the votes to impeach the President.
In an equally sad attempt at auto-fellatio, Farenthold also registered the URL “democratsforblake.com.”
