the last period in country music worth a damn was the 70s texas "outlaw"

sound of Willie, Waylon, etc. And by etc. I mean "and the boys."

It has been pretty much watered down pop pabulum with fiddles and steel guitars ever since.

Putin is a thug but I wish his government the best of luck pulling off a safe winter olympics

However I have very little confidence they will. Russia has always, despite the advantages one would think an authoritarian system would have in the "law and order" department, not had the best track record of stopping radical fundie terrorists. The words "Russian anti-terrorist efforts" usually evoke the gassing of movie theatres and leveling Chechen cities in my mind - all the while the fundies continue their own deadly business.

What Happened to Alfred Wright? Strange death of a black man in East Texas

To be honest, the official story of irrational meth related behavior makes sense, but so do (unfortunately) more sinister racist theories.

Family wants answers in man's mysterious death in Texas

Around 6 p.m., Alfred Wright disappeared from where he was last seen alive. When his parents arrived about 20 minutes later, his truck was in the parking lot, but he was nowhere to be seen. His father asked the store clerk what happened. He says she told him that she was out having a smoke when Wright "all of a sudden put his cell phone in his sock and took off like the truck was going to blow up."

The clerk did not want to be interviewed on camera but did tell CNN that Wright "left on his own free will," a phrase she repeated several times.

The next day, his personal effects, including his watch and ID, turned up on a nearby ranch. Deputies searched the property with cadaver dogs. His family says it was told by the deputies that Wright's scent had "disappeared" at a nearby creek.

CNN report reveals that Alfred Wright's throat may have been slashed

Monday night on CNN's AC 360, new details were revealed about the disappearance and death of Alfred Wright.

The Jasper man was reported missing in Hemphill on November 7.

He was a 28-year-old husband and father.

His body was found nearly three weeks later, not by law enforcement, but by a family-organized search party.

Sabine County authorities gave up looking after three days.

Wright family attorney Ryan MacLeod said the CNN crew spent Christmas week in Jasper and Sabine counties conducting interviews.

MacLeod says the media are doing what law enforcement has not, and that's seeking answers.

MacLeod says Sabine County Sheriff Tom Maddox offered no comfort to the family, this despite the fact that Maddox's daughter and Wright had been friends.

MacLeod says Maddox blamed a drug overdose for Wright's disappearance before his body was even found.

Eventually the official autopsy from the medical examiner's office revealed that Wright likely died from a drug overdose.

An independent autopsy, sanctioned by the family, indicates foul play. It shows that Wright's throat appears to have been slashed, he was also missing two front teeth and an ear.

The official autopsy did not reveal those things, plus nothing has been released as to when the drugs got into Wright's system.

MacLeod says Sheriff Maddox has done nothing but lie to the Wrights.

MacLeod says the Sheriff had told the family that they were tracking Wright's whereabouts through his cell phone for two days, then on the third he claimed they didn't do that because AT&T did not allow them.

MacLeod calls that "nonsensical".

Sheriff Maddox would not give 12News a comment since the investigation is ongoing.

It is now in the hands of a Texas Ranger from Lufkin, and the FBI is helping with the case.

Our call to the Ranger was not returned.

OK Men this is my new year's message to you (complementing my post to the HoF group)

I think most of you (if not all) agree with the "radfems" on gender equality. I, like you, disagree with them (or at least how they express themselves) on some issues. porn is one of them. I get where they are coming from on how women are depicted in a lot of porn. But I recoil as I would from a snake at what often appears to be their call for censorship ( mainly, but not only because what little porn I watch would be banned by the right because of the gender mix of the participants.) What I have pledged to them is a more respectful discussion of that issue, but mainly a recognition of the true enemy - politicians who want to dictate women's medical decisions or my choice of partners. I let them know that I will continue to point out where I disagree with them, but in a more intellectual and respectful way - though I will ask them if they really want to agree with Falwell, etc. on porn. i just won't say 'hey, you are the same as Fallwell. Anyway, the pisseness will continue, but let us all try to recognize and fight the real enemy.,

Hey "Radical" Feminists

I think we agree on more than we disagree, not just on general issues but gender equality ones. I think we have especially disagreed on the porn thing. I am simply a 1st amendment cheerleader and will tend to agree with your despised 'men's group" on that. The whole "rape culture" concept is something I just won't comment on because nobody can agree on a definition of it. But I have learned from some of the prolific posters here that "no means no" should not be the advice. Only "yes means yes" should be what we preach. So I will go into the new year asking forgiveness for any offenses (though I still think many of you take a position on pornography that too closely resembles the right wing for my comfort.)

But God bless you all and I will always approach our disagreements with the assumption that you come from a well meaning (and maybe correct) progressive mind frame/

Many of you are fellow Texans and will be working toward the same goal I will be this year - Governor Wendy Davis.

Anyways, I ramble.

Solidarity in 14 is all I am saying.

anyone else reading: The Loudest Voice in the Room?

Bought it today. Fucking page turner. O'Reilly's meltdowns and harassment suits, Beck's departure and Roger A's descent into paranoia - he thought Obama's reelection meant the DCC would try to assassinate him - not metaphorically, but for real.

Prayer of St. Francis

Lord, make me an instrument of Thy peace;Where there is hatred, let me sow love;Where there is injury, pardon;Where there is error, truth;Where there is doubt, faith;Where there is despair, hope;Where there is darkness, light; And where there is sadness, joy.O Divine Master, Grant that I may not so much seekTo be consoled as to console; To be understood as to understand; To be loved as to love. For it is in giving that we receive; It is in pardoning that we are pardoned; And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

This has always been one of my favorite reminders of what I as a Christian am called to do and be by Christ. Although it was almost certainly not written by its namesake, it is beautiful and powerful, Bishop Tutu called it an intregal part of his daily devotion .
