The Evil of Thanksgiving Creep, Black Friday and Why Consumers Are Painfully Falling for Both

"Working in Retail Management for years there was an enjoyment previously in, the "Black Friday" rush, the excitement on shoppers faces after offering a awesome deal, having major fun with my staff and more.

Traditionally -- before Thanksgiving Creep-- Retail Employees normally received THREE (yes just three) Almost Guaranteed Holidays Off: Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas.

That's it, that all.

Because the retail workers of the World had the Thursday before Black Friday off to spend without interruption with our families, we did not mind getting up REALLY EARLY to serve your shopping needs on "Black Friday". However, the last three years have been interesting to watch. The way "Black Friday" as been "presented" to consumers definitely has changed -- for the worse."

MI has No Legal Obligation to Provide a Quality Public Education, So Says the State Appellate Court

In a blow to schoolchildren statewide, the Michigan Court of Appeals ruled on Nov. 7 the State of Michigan has no legal obligation to provide a quality public education to students in the struggling Highland Park School District.

"A 2-1 decision reversed an earlier circuit court ruling that there is a “broad compelling state interest in the provision of an education to all children.”

The appellate court said the state has no constitutional requirement to ensure schoolchildren actually learn fundamental skills such as reading — but rather is obligated only to establish and finance a public education system, regardless of quality. Waving off decades of historic judicial impact on educational reform, the majority opinion also contends that “judges are not equipped to decide educational policy.”

Unbelievable...and some folks voted to continue this November 4th.....Paying a EAA Head $325K

Glad we're NOT one of them....

"Veronica Conforme will also get an $8,000 annual vehicle allowance, security protection and $5,000 annually for the purchase of a life insurance policy.

The chancellor of the statewide district for Michigan's lowest-performing schools will make an annual base salary of $325,000 under a new contract that puts her in the top earnings tier of school leaders nationwide.

Veronica Conforme will donate $25,000 of that to charity this year — while receiving an extra $25,000 to cover relocation expenses.

As head of the Education Achievement Authority, Conforme will also get a vehicle allowance, money for life insurance and security protection from the district.

Conforme's base salary exceeds the average salary of $242,000 earned by superintendents at 53 large urban school districts nationwide, as reported in 2014 by the Council of the Great City Schools.

The EAA board approved the contract today. It runs from Nov. 5, 2014, through June 30, 2018."

Hey Chris Matthews, Tipping on the Edge of Dog Whistle Race Politics on Ms. Lynch is not Warranted!!

"She (Loretta Lynch) will be sitting in a chair for weeks getting drilled by Ted Cruz like ANITA Hill," says msnbc Chris Matthews.

REALLY NOW MSNBC?

Nothing against Attorney Hill but, except the fact Attorney Hill and Federal Prosecutor Lynch are African-American females -- both highly intelligent by the way Legal Counselors-- what else does Ms. Lynch have in common with Ms. Hill? Nothing....so....

HELLO Chris Matthews....Attorney Hill was called by legal subpoena to Congress to confirm or deny the unwarranted sexual harassment perceived behaviors of then Supreme Court Nominee Clarence Thomas in the 1990's.

Attorney Lynch has chosen to be considered, to become the first African-American Female Attorney General of the United States of America in 2014.

It's truly sick how the Corporate Media in the last 48 hours (barely 48 at that) are trying to make Ms. Lynch nomination an issue mixed with the usual dog whistle race and sex politics of normal in the US of A. WOW, just WOW.

Matthews need to apologize to Ms. Lynch and Ms. Hill for that matter, learn how to think before he speaks and shut it!

Why Senator-Elect Gary Peters won: Michigan's Purple Split Ticket Party Voters

"Michigan is a Purple State full of split ticket voters. In a say it loud from the rooftop scenario again: Michigan is a Purple State fill of split ticket voters.

For a Statewide or Federal candidate to win during a general election, the potential office holder must appeal broadly to Michigan's deeply blue, light blue, purple, purple-red and deeply red counties. Senator-Elect Gary Peters knew full well how to ride the five colors in the Crayola crayon box called Michigan, and won.

Let's examine the numbers shall we:

Unofficial Numbers from the Michigan Secretary of State website as of November 5, 2014

Gary Peters (D): 1,702,460 or 54.58% Terri Lynn Land (R): 1,288,126 41.37%

Peters received about 414.334 votes more than Land gained statewide."

The Morning After - Outsmarted, Outspent, Outlast, Frankly Plain Smoked - Michigan Elections 2014

This is what happened last night in Michigan. The Republicans not only had a good night, they had a fantastic night in all things Great Lakes Blue. In fact, the only thing left "Blue" in this state is the water -- and give it a couple of more years under Republican rule and that --- will be brown with Fracking juices and all.

The Michigan Democratic Party got SMOKED. Lost every statewide office --- AGAIN. Lost the Michigan House AGAIN. Lost the Michigan Senate - AGAIN.

Worse, lost FOUR SEATS in the Michigan House -- where the goal should have been to take back the house as it was doable, however -- the Michigan Democratic Party LOST BIG TIME.

Before Hitting the Polls: One Last Statement on Why Michigan Governor Rick Snyder Must Go

"It is critically important that in these last couple of days Michiganders understand that Rick Snyder should not and can't be trusted in any form or fashion to tell the truth.

The Governor is on the ropes thanks to Democratic Challenger Mark Schauer aggressive campaigning as of late. As a result, Gov. Snyder knows full well the only way he can have a "shot" at re-election is by doing what he does best ----lying.

Voters must understand Rick Snyder cut $1.8 BILLION with a Capital B out of Michigan's Public Education system in order to satisfy rich donors to his campaign in the "private/charter" school business. The Governor raised taxes on Michigan's Seniors with the "Pension Tax", middle class with cuts to the Homestead Property Tax Credit and the working poor with the darn near elimination of the Earned Income Tax credit from a maximum of $650 once a year to $50.00 in total.

Additionally, Rick Snyder promised and lied that giving a 1 Billion dollar tax break ---which was in reality a tax shift -- to C & S Corporations in this State would "create jobs". According to figures from BLS or the Federal Bureau of Labor Statistics, Michigan's unemployment rate REMAINS the 8th highest in the nation."

President Obama to Detroit Voters: "Go Vote and Take a Friend to the Polls Tuesday" - IUNT

"President Barack Obama made a pre-election day rally stop Saturday, November 1 speaking to a robust crowd upwards to 10,000 supporters at Wayne State University.

The President during the visit rallied for voters to support Congressman Gary Peters vying for the U.S. Senate, Michigan Democratic Gubernatorial candidate Mark Schauer and Attorney Godfrey Dillard quest to win the states' Secretary of State position.

Making the case on why Michigan is important for Democrats quest to maintain the U.S. Senate and overturn damage done in 2010 when 900,000 voters stayed home, resulting in Republicans taking over the Governor, Secretary of State, Attorney General, both legislative chambers and the State Supreme Court.

President Obama urged attendees to "Go vote and take a friend to the polls on Tuesday," November 4.

"The same folks that asked us to throw in the towel on Michigan six years ago are now asking for your vote," President Obama told the large Motorcity crowd.

"When you step into that voting booth, you are making not just making a choice about candidates and parties, but making about two different visions of what America's is about And it boils down to a simple question: who is on your side, whose going to fight for you."

Nurses' union slams Texas hospital for lack of Ebola protocol

Source: CNN

"The Texas hospital where two health care workers contracted Ebola while caring for a patient had guidelines that were "constantly changing" and didn't have protocols on how to deal with the deadly virus," a nurses' union claims.

"The protocols that should have been in place in Dallas were not in place, and that those protocols are not in place anywhere in the United States as far as we can tell," National Nurses United Executive Director RoseAnn DeMoro said Tuesday night. "We're deeply alarmed."

Officials from National Nurses United declined to specify how many nurses they had spoken with, nor identify them to to protect them from possible retaliation. The nurses at the hospital are not members of a union, officials said.

Here's a look at some of the allegations the nurses made, according to the union:

Claim: Duncan wasn't immediately isolated

On the day that Duncan was admitted to the hospital with possible Ebola symptoms, he was "left for several hours, not in isolation, in an area where other patients were present," union co-president Deborah Burger said.

Up to seven other patients were present in that area, the nurses said, according to the union.

A nursing supervisor faced resistance from hospital authorities when the supervisor demanded that Duncan be moved to an isolation unit, the nurses said, according to the union.

Claim: The nurses' protective gear left their necks exposed

After expressing concerns that their necks were exposed even as they wore protective gear, the nurses were told to wrap their necks with medical tape, the union says.

"They were told to use medical tape and had to use four to five pieces of medical tape wound around their neck. The nurses have expressed a lot of concern about how difficult it is to remove the tape from their neck," Burger said.

Claim: At one point, hazardous waste piled up

"There was no one to pick up hazardous waste as it piled to the ceiling," Burger said. "They did not have access to proper supplies."

Claim: Nurses got no "hands-on" training

"There was no mandate for nurses to attend training," Burger said, though they did receive an e-mail about a hospital seminar on Ebola.

"This was treated like hundreds of other seminars that were routinely offered to staff," she said.

Claim: The nurses "feel unsupported"

So why did the group of nurses -- the union wouldn't say how many -- contact the nursing union, which they don't belong to?

According to DeMoro, the nurses were upset after authorities appeared to blame nurse Pham, who has contracted Ebola, for not following protocols.

"This nurse was being blamed for not following protocols that did not exist. ... The nurses in that hospital were very angry, and they decided to contact us," DeMoro said.

And they're worried conditions at the hospital "may lead to infection of other nurses and patients," Burger said."

Insulting, ridiculous and yet unsurprising in the privatized health care system of the United States of America. If this is the standard in the USA for this latest PLAGUE....we are all screwed.
