2:51 p.m.: Hours of voting delays at an Islamic school

At a voting precinct in an Islamic school in Canton, Crescent Academy, voting machines were down for a few hours this morning, said Ken Coleman, a spokesman for Anil Kumar, a Democrat running for U.S. House Rep. "To have people eager and ready to vote but can't because of these type of problems is simply outrageous," Coleman said. The problem appears to have been corrected and the machines are now working. -- Niraj Warikoo, Staff writer

Poll workers erroneously asked voters their party preference

Poll workers in two Greenville County precincts were asking voters this morning about their political party preference before sending them to a booth, which was unnecessary and not in keeping with General Election practices, but the issue has been resolved, the director of voter registration and elections said.

Voters hit roadblocks across greater Houston

Election Day problems popped up across greater Houston this morning, as polls opened late, voters found machines broken and election officials created confusion over the state's photo ID laws.

In sprawling Fort Bend County, voters were delayed from casting ballots due to machine problems at George Bush High School, the polling place for 3,715 registered voters.

A volunteer said only one machine was working at 7 a.m. By 8:20, the problem appeared to be fixed.
"Some people just gave up," she said. "Others said they would try to come back after work."

The problem was reported to the Houston Chronicle via ProPublica's Electionland Project.
Fort Bend Democratic Party Chairwoman Cynthia Ginyard was at the school monitoring the situation. She could not confirm when the machines were fixed or how many voters left.

That's always the underlying concern," she said of the possibility that voters would not return.
Ginyard, wearing a button that said "Nasty Women Vote," was headed to Mission Bend Elementary, where some people went after experiencing problems at the high school.

At Birnham Woods Elementary School in Spring, the polling station's registration machine went down for voters with last names from A through L.

It had not worked all morning. By 11:30 a.m., poll workers were still manually checking voter registrations, leading to a line of more than 50 people spilling out of the school's gym and into a hallway.

Some people left due to the long waits. Cynthia Ferguson, 67, was timing her wait on her phone. It hadn't gotten up to an hour and 34 minutes.

Voting machine problems reported across metro Detroit

(WJBK) - The polls have been open in Michigan for a couple hours now, and FOX 2 has received dozens of calls and emails from voters saying the machine at their polling place isn't working correctly.

An overwhelming number of voters from several cities report the machine isn't able to accept the ballot, so they've had to leave their ballot in the hands of the volunteers. Many say the machines are malfunctioning or jamming. FOX 2 has taken calls and emails from voters in Detroit, Sterling Heights, Novi, Holly and Roseville - just to name a few.

Detroit City Clerk Janice Winfrey tells FOX 2, "Defective machines will be swapped out. All ballots will be put through and all votes will be tabulated."

Many voters are concerned, though, that their vote may not be counted since they won't be there to physically see it go through the machine.

FOX 2 has also spoken with some election volunteers who are frustrated because they're not sure who to contact for help getting a new machine.
