Hunters Shoot Animal Rights Drone Out of the Sky

The gun totin' boys at the Broxton Bridge Plantation hunting ground were planning on having themselves a good old fashioned pigeon hunt. South Carolina's unfortunately named S.H.A.R.K. animal rights group planned to expose them via aerial drone. Guess what happened.

The Times and Democrat reports that once the hopeful hunters knew they were going to be watched from above, they started to leave the private shooting plantation. SHARK decided to send up their drone anyway—above a group of cranky firearm-wielding southerners. Big mistake, SHARK. Their drone was quickly shot out of the sky:

"Seconds after it hit the air, numerous shots rang out," [SHARK leader] Hindi said in the release. "As an act of revenge for us shutting down the pigeon slaughter, they had shot down our copter." He claimed the shooters were "in tree cover" and "fled the scene on small motorized vehicles."

Plane carrying drugs intercepts Obama 'No-Fly' zone

LONG BEACH, Ca. -- A single-engine aircraft broke the temporary flight restriction around LAX as President Barack Obama was returning to the airport aboard Marine One, sources told NBC News.

NORAD fighter jets immediately surrounded the Cessna 172 and escorted the plane to the Long Beach Airport, where law enforcement discovered marijuana in the aircraft.

The F-16s scrambled out of March Air Reserve Base in Riverside County, according to NORAD.

Facebook Asking Some Users To Upload Government Issued IDs

Facebook on Thursday began asking certain popular users to upload photos of their government issued identification cards to help the social network test a new accounts verification service, the social network confirmed to TPM.

“The new process enables people to verify their identities by submitting a government issued ID,” a Facebook spokesperson said.

Facebook also revealed to TechCrunch, which first broke the news of the new verification process on Wednesday night, that it will “permanently delete” the ID information after the account holder has been verified.

Facebook did not elaborate on how exactly it will go about verifying the IDs or the accounts supposedly attached to them.

Twitter and Google Plus, which also offer account verification services for selected users and have done so for months (years in the case of Twitter), are similarly opaque about how those verification processes work.

Rep. Maxine Waters Firing Up the Delegates to the 2012 CA Democratic Party Convention

&feature=player_embedded

Democratic Rep. Waters calls GOP leadership 'demons'

Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.), in video surfacing Wednesday, called Republican leaders Speaker John Boehner and House Majority Leader Eric Cantor “demons” who are “destroying this country.”

“We’ve got to take back the House,” Waters said last weekend in seeking to rally California Democrats to political action in the final moments of her speech to the California Democratic Convention.

She pointed to the display behind her as she continued: "I saw pictures of Boehner and Cantor on our screens. Don't ever let me see again, in life, those Republicans in our hall, on our screens, talking about anything. These are demons. These are legislators who are destroying this country rather than bringing us together, creating jobs, making sure we have a good tax policy, bringing our jobs from back off-shore, incentivizing those who keep the jobs here. They are bringing down this country, destroying this country, because they’d rather do whatever they can do destroy this president rather than for the good of this country.”

Massachusetts: Joseph Kennedy III to Announce House Bid Thursday

Joseph Kennedy III, the son of former Rep. Joe Kennedy (D-Mass.) and grandson of the late Sen. Robert Kennedy (D-N.Y.), will announce his bid for Congress in the Bay State’s 4th district on Thursday, a campaign source confirmed to Roll Call.

Kennedy announced an exploratory committee last month and just about cleared the Democratic primary field for the open seat, currently held by retiring Rep. Barney Frank (D).

CNN Poll: Obama approval rating back to 50% mark

Washington (CNN) - President Barack Obama's approval rating is back to 50% for the first time in more than eight months, and he currently holds an edge against all the remaining Republican presidential candidates in hypothetical head-to-head match-ups, according to a new national survey.

And a CNN/ORC International Poll released Wednesday also indicates that the GOP's advantage on enthusiasm has been erased, and that the number of Americans who think things are going well in the country is on the rise. Six out of ten say things are going poorly in the country, but four out of ten say things are going well, up 15 points since November.

"Does that mean it's morning in America? It is for Democrats - a solid majority of them now say things are going well in the country. But overall, six in ten still have a gloomy outlook about the state of the country," says CNN Polling Director Keating Holland. "Optimism is on the rise among independent voters, with a notable increase among men as well, although a majority of both groups still think things are going poorly."

Michigan Dems blast Romney opinion article

Lansing —

Former Gov. Jennifer Granholm, two Michigan congressmen and the leader of the state’s Democratic Party criticized Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney Tuesday for a newspaper opinion piece in which he claimed to be a “son of Detroit.”

Romney’s article ran Tuesday in The Detroit News — two weeks before Michigan’s Feb. 28 Republican presidential primary. A poll released Monday by Public Policy Polling showed former Pennsylvania Gov. Rick Santorum at 39 percent and Romney at 24 percent in the state.

The ex-Massachusetts governor and presumed front-runner to take on President Barack Obama is trying to make good in the eyes of prospective voters, the Democrats told reporters Tuesday during a conference call.

“He opposed the rescue package for the automakers,” Granholm said. “Mitt Romney turned his back on Michigan. I would say he stabbed us in the back during our darkest hour and we’re not going to forget.”

Should Ron Paul demand a new vote count in Maine?

Should Ron Paul demand a new vote tally for the Maine caucuses? On Feb. 12, state GOP officials announced that Mitt Romney had won the Pine Tree State confabs by a narrow 194 votes. But since then there’s been increasing evidence that Romney’s margin of victory was somewhat notional.

Maine’s Washington County canceled its caucuses due to weather, yet the state party went ahead and called the election without them, for instance. A few other towns had previously scheduled their caucuses for the post-Feb. 12 period, and their totals weren’t included either.

Now it appears that some towns which did caucus did not have their vote totals listed in the state’s final count. The vote for most Waldo County towns was entered as “0,” pointed out the Bangor Daily News on Feb. 14. Waterville’s numbers were similarly omitted.
