Obama Comments On Death Of 'Patriot And Humble Servant' George H.W. Bush

Obama Comments On Death Of ‘Patriot And Humble Servant’ George H.W. Bush
“George H.W. Bush’s life is a testament to the notion that public service is a noble, joyous calling. And he did tremendous good along the journey.”

Former President Barack Obama issued a lengthy statement early Saturday on the death of former President George H.W. Bush, who died Friday at the age of 94.

Obama praised Bush as “a patriot and humble servant” who left “a legacy of service that may never be matched, even though he’d want all of us to try.” Obama visited Bush on Tuesday ahead of a speaking engagement in Texas, according to Bush’s spokesman.

Read Obama’s full statement below:

America has lost a patriot and humble servant in George Herbert Walker Bush. While our hearts are heavy today, they are also filled with gratitude. Not merely for the years he spent as our forty-first President, but for the more than 70 years he spent in devoted service to the country he loved – from a decorated Naval aviator who nearly gave his life in World War II, to Commander-in-Chief of our Armed Forces, with plenty of posts along the way. Ambassador to the United Nations. Director of Central Intelligence. U.S. Envoy to China. Vice President of the United States.

George H.W. Bush’s life is a testament to the notion that public service is a noble, joyous calling. And he did tremendous good along the journey. Expanding America’s promise to new immigrants and people with disabilities. Reducing the scourge of nuclear weapons and building a broad international coalition to expel a dictator from Kuwait. And when democratic revolutions bloomed across Eastern Europe, it was his steady, diplomatic hand that made possible an achievement once thought anything but – ending the Cold War without firing a shot.

It’s a legacy of service that may never be matched, even though he’d want all of us to try.

After seventy-three years of marriage, George and Barbara Bush are together again now, two points of light that never dimmed, two points of light that ignited countless others with their example – the example of a man who, even after commanding the world’s mightiest military, once said “I got more of a kick out of being one of the founders of the YMCA in Midland, Texas back in 1952 than almost anything I’ve done.”

What a testament to the qualities that make this country great. Service to others. Commitment to leaving behind something better. Sacrifice in the name of lifting this country closer to its founding ideals. Our thoughts are with the entire Bush family tonight – and all who were inspired by George and Barbara’s example.

Jim McGrath, Bush’s spokesman, announced the former president’s death late Friday.

Ivanka Trump Says ‘Lock Her Up’ Doesn’t Apply To Her
President Donald Trump’s eldest daughter said there was “no intent to circumvent” with her use of private email for government business.

By Hayley Miller

<snip>

“There really is no equivalency,” Trump, the president’s eldest daughter and a senior White House adviser, said in interview with ABC’s “Good Morning America” that aired Wednesday.

She continued: “All of my emails that relate to any form of government work, which is mainly scheduling and logistics ... are all part of the public record. Everything’s been preserved.”

<snip>

The report casts the president and his family in a hypocritical light, as he made 2016 Democratic opponent Clinton’s misuse of a private email server a constant line of attack. Trump supporters still regularly chant “Lock her up!” at rallies ― a call to send Clinton to prison over the emails.

<snip>

“People who want to see it as the same, see it as the same,” Trump told ABC. “In my case, all of my emails are on the White House server. There’s no intent to circumvent.”

The real big deal with Manafort is ...

Mueller knew he was lying: no prosecutor worth a bean would not know the real answers to the question he'd ask anyone in a case.

What he ended up with is lies he used to fashion questions for cheetolini. He gave cheeto a change to perjur himself and show that there most definately was collusion between Manafort, Gates and cheetolini and cheeto Jr.

Collussion is an element in conspiracy. Federal Conspiracy falls under RICO act. That's where the Government siezes the ill gotten gains from a criminal conspiracy.

Now we're going to find out exactly what the cheetolini family and Monteford is worth.

Conspiracy to commit treason, to steal an election with the Russians, income tax fraud .... The possibilities are breath taking.

Milania's new Christmas design ...

Melania Trump’s Red Christmas Trees Conjure ‘Handmaid’s Tale’ For Twitter Users
This is the second year in a row the first lady has been blasted for her White House Christmas decorations.

Melania Trump’s Christmas decorations have people seeing red ― literally.

The first lady posted a video on Twitter on Monday showing how the White House will be decorated this holiday season.

Put it this way: The first family’s home is, pardon the pun, in a very red state, including the trees, which have a definite crimson theme.

The blood red trees reminded many Twitter users of one thing: “The Handmaid’s Tale,” Hulu’s dystopian drama about a society that subjugates women.

Here Melania- someone fixed the red trees for you! pic.twitter.com/bToSYTL4V6

Open up twitter today to see that Melania has installed comrade red handmaid christmas trees in the Kremlin annex. Happy Monday! pic.twitter.com/VGjIz8Js2w

Others were reminded of a different but just as horrifying pop culture reference.

Others felt pity for the first lady.

You’re alone. It’s weird. ‘The People’s House’ but it’s just you—isolated, surrounded by extravagance. You’re like Marie Antoinette. It’s a rather sad and pitiable promo piece w that singular token ‘be best’ ornament making it all the more so. Really feel so sorry for you.
— Jack Hutton (@jackhutton) November 26, 2018

Some tried to put a positive spin on things.

Not a fan of the red trees. But glad they recycled Donald’s old ties.

Samantha Bee appeared to be touched by the holiday spirit and made her Christmas wish to Trump.

Thanks for the holiday inspo, @FLOTUS! This year, all we want is for your husband to stop tear-gassing kids. https://t.co/YgPyhzkuYf

James Comey Responds To Subpoena From Republicans: 'Let's Invite Everyone To See'

James Comey Responds To Subpoena From Republicans: ‘Let’s Invite Everyone To See’

Former FBI Director James Comey and former Attorney General Loretta Lynch received subpoenas on Wednesday from House Republicans investigating the role of the FBI in the 2016 presidential election, and Comey responded to his with a Thanksgiving tweet.

“Happy Thanksgiving. Got a subpoena from House Republicans. I’m still happy to sit in the light and answer all questions. But I will resist a ‘closed door’ thing because I’ve seen enough of their selective leaking and distortion. Let’s have a hearing and invite everyone to see,” Comey wrote.

Lynch hasn’t publicly responded to hers.

Outgoing House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.) is requesting that Comey and Lynch testify at depositions held Dec. 3 and 4, respectively, according to documents shared by Politico reporter Kyle Cheney.

House Republicans’ probe into the FBI’s actions in 2016 will come to an end when Democrats take over the House in January. Republicans have alleged FBI bias against President Donald Trump has led to the bureau focusing on whether there were any Trump campaign ties to Russia instead of investigating Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server for official business while she was secretary of state.

Democrats say that it’s all a distraction from special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia probe, which Trump has repeatedly described as a “witch hunt.”

Comey’s attorney David Kelley said his client would fight the subpoena in court.

“While the authority for congressional subpoenas is broad, it does not cover the right to misuse closed hearings as a political stunt to promote political as opposed to legislative agendas,” Kelley said.

"Congress Is Going to Force Transparency on This President"

“Congress Is Going to Force Transparency on This President”: House Democrats Prepare to Turn Trump’s Life Upside Down

Inside the White House, advisers are justifiably terrified of the prospect of two (or more) years under the microscope of the House Oversight Committee. And Democrats are just getting started.

With the midterm election over and the House set to fall back under Democratic control, Capitol Hill is already reorganizing itself in anticipation of a hellacious new reality. “Tomorrow will be a new day in America,” Nancy Pelosi declared on Tuesday night, shortly after Fox News, CNN, and other political scorekeepers made the call. “Today is about more than Democrats and Republicans,” she continued. “It is about restoring the Constitution’s checks and balances to the Trump administration.” The threat was not lost on Trump. “If the Democrats think they are going to waste taxpayer money investigating us at the House level, then we will likewise be forced to consider investigating them for all of the leaks of classified information, and much else, at the Senate level,” the president shot back on Twitter. “Two can play that game!”

Trump may sound defiant—may even welcome the chance to make Pelosi his foil for 2020—but inside the White House, advisers are justifiably depressed by the prospect of two (or more) years under the microscope of the House Oversight Committee. The Trump administration, after all, has produced scandals at an alarming rate, from a campaign that remains under investigation by the Justice Department to corruption investigations into a half-dozen Cabinet officials, to the firing of Jeff Sessions. Most controversies have been swept under the rug by Republican lawmakers who dutifully looked the other way. Now, Democrats are ready to make Trump’s life hell. “Congress is going to force transparency on this president,” one Democratic congressional aide told me. “Once there is transparency, I am sure there are going to be a lot of questions that flow from that.”

Wielding the power to subpoena documents, administration officials, and Trump associates, House Democrats can pursue any and all lines of inquiry their Republican colleagues ignored. And there will be little Trump can do to stop them. “It seems that the prospect of oversight and investigations has already gotten very much into the president’s head, since it was very much a focus of his election commentary,” Bob Bauer, who served as White House counsel to Barack Obama, told me. “The White House can be affected by these matters in a range of ways, including the way it staffs up, allocates resources, and sets legislative strategy, but the impact is magnified if the executive is obsessed with his perception of the threat, as he may already be.”

Impeachment—a liberal wet dream and Democratic Party nightmare—is on the back-burner for now, at least until Robert Mueller returns with his Russia report. Pelosi, who has been in Congress long enough to remember how the Clinton impeachment trials backfired for Republicans, said Tuesday that such a drastic move would “have to be bipartisan,” and that “the evidence would have to be so conclusive.” Congressman Jerrold Nadler, who is set to take over as chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, and would take the lead on initiating impeachment proceedings, released a statement promising “accountability” and “oversight,” but not much else. (On Wednesday afternoon, after Sessions was fired, he vowed to use his power to protect Mueller’s office from political interference.)

But there is much that is likely to happen in the meantime. California Congressman Devin Nunes, the bumbling, sycophantic chair of the House Intelligence Committee, will pass the gavel to ranking Democrat Adam Schiff, also of California, who has promised to deploy the full resources of the committee to get to the bottom of the Russia affair. He has also been forthright in his contempt for Nunes, who he accused on Tuesday of having run interference for the administration. “The majority went further by being complicit in the president’s attacks on the independence of the Justice Department, on the men and women of the F.B.I., on our intelligence community,” he said, after handily winning re-election in his district. “So we also need to restore the relationship between our committee and the intelligence community and law enforcement.”

Schiff has signaled the committee will wait for the special counsel’s office to deliver its findings in the Trump-Russia investigation, which is believed to be nearing its final stages. But there is no guarantee that even lawmakers will have access to Mueller’s eventual report on the investigation, given that he has no D.O.J. mandate to report to Congress—unlike Whitewater prosecutor Kenneth Starr. Even if Mueller’s report is made accessible, a number of questions could still go unresolved.
