Friend shoots man holding his ex-wife in chokehold, deputies say

PICKENS COUNTY, S.C. —A man is now facing charges after he was shot while holding his ex-wife in a chokehold, according to Pickens County authorities.

Clayton Ashley Anderson, 30, is charged with burglary, kidnapping and domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature.

Authorities said that on March 1 Anderson’s ex-wife was moving into a home on Pope Road when Anderson came to the home and refused to leave.

They said Anderson grabbed his ex-wife by the throat and threatened to kill her. One of the friends at the home called 911 while the other got a gun from a car.

Neighbor shoots at robbers after threats of rape, murder

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA. - Three suspects are in custody and a fourth hospitalized after a Lawrenceville neighbor fired back during a robbery.

On Monday, May 16 in the middle of the afternoon, a 39-year-old woman answered the door to her Lawrenceville home. Three men put a gun to her head and ordered her to lay down on the sofa and keep her head down.

On Friday, she spoke exclusively to 11Alive's LaTasha Givens.

Police say the men had already robbed another man just down the street on Cannonball Court.

But don't worry, we are told, burglars are just after your "stuff."

Beware of short, smiling men with big knives...

That day a lone Gurkha took out 30 Taliban using every weapon within reach

To say that Gurkhas are simply soldiers from Nepal would be a massive, massive understatement. If there’s a single reason no one goes to war with Nepal, it is because of the Gurkhas’ reputation.

They are elite, fearless warriors who serve in not only the Nepalese Army but also in the British and Indian armies as well, a tradition since the end of the Anglo-Nepalese War in 1816.

They are known for their exceptional bravery, ability, and heroism in the face of insurmountable odds. Faithful to their traditions, one Gurkha in Afghanistan, Dipprasad Pun, single handedly held his post against more than 30 Taliban fighters.

It was a September evening in Afghanistan’s Helmand Province. It was 2010, and Sergeant Dipprasad Pun of the Royal Gurkha Rifles was on duty at a two-story outpost. He heard some noises and found two insurgents attempting to lay an IED in a nearby road. He realized he was surrounded. The night sky filled up with bullets and RPG fire. Taliban fighters sprang into a well-planned assault on Pun’s outpost.

Delaware school where girl died after beating mourns another teen

Source: CBS

WILMINGTON, Del. -- A 15-year-old Howard High School of Technology student has died after being shot in Wilmington, the second student to die in recent weeks.

Wilmington police said in a news release that officers found the boy lying on the ground Thursday afternoon, a few blocks away from the school, with a gunshot wound to his head. He later died from his injuries.

Howard High School Principal Stanley Spoor posted a note on the school's website confirming the shooting death of a freshman student. He says counselors will be available at the school Friday.

"All of the Howard community is pained by the loss of this young man and we all grieve his death," Spoor wrote.

NYPD checking ammo after knifeman’s jacket stops cops’ bullets

NYPD checking ammo after knifeman’s jacket stops cops’ bullets

Four of the shots that cops fired at a madman waving a knife in Midtown failed to penetrate his jacket — which was not bullet-proof — and the NYPD will now check the weapons for malfunction, law enforcement sources told The Post.

“The bullets we have may be defective and that’s very disturbing,” one source said. “When we fire our weapons we want to make damn sure that our bullets hit our target – neutralizing our target.”

A sergeant and an officer fired a total of nine rounds at 46-year-old Garry Conrad Wednesday, with one of the shots killing the depressed Broadway stagehand who refused to drop the blade at West 49th Street and Eighth Avenue.

Four of the bullets got lodged in Conrad’s Carhartt jacket, sources said, adding that he was not wearing bulletproof vest.

Bizarre story without an obvious explanation.

Also unusal results for NYPD. Two officers only fire nine shots. They manage to hit their target four times and only injure one bystander.
Although compare/contrast to a Mississippi woman who is not a well-trained firearm expert like police are http://www.democraticunderground.com/1172193785

Homeowner shoots, kills alleged burglar

Homeowner shoots, kills alleged burglar

TUPELO – A Lee County homeowner will likely not face charges after shooting and killing a suspected burglar Thursday morning.

“In our opinion, she was justified,” said Lee County Sheriff Jim Johnson. “We will take it to the grand jury as a query, but under the castle doctrine, you have the right to protect your family and property if you feel threatened.”

The County Road 736 homeowner heard noises outside around 4 a.m. She armed herself and went outside and found Gary Sneed Jr., 35, inside of her vehicle. She told him he was trespassing and needed to leave.

“He made a lunge and she fired once, striking him fatally,” Johnson said. “She then told the female suspect to stay put and calmly called 911 and followed all their directions until we arrived.”

Suspected home invader dead after being shot at by victim; 2 cohorts arrested in Pike County

Pike County investigators say three young men broke into a home to rob it early Thursday. Instead, one of them is now dead and the other two are behind bars.

Lt. Troy Johnson of the Pike County Sheriff's Office said they were called to a home in the 100 block of County Road 3016 at about 2:30 a.m. He said the 36-year-old resident told them he answered a knock on his door and three men forced their way inside.

The victim said one of them pulled a gun on him and told him to "give it up," Johnson said.

The victim said he grabbed the gun and got it away from the robber. He said he shot at them as they advanced on him. All three fled on foot after the shot was fired.

Police: Driver shot would-be robber dead at McDonald’s

Police: Driver shot would-be robber dead at McDonald’s

A 37-year-old man was killed Saturday afternoon after he apparently tried to rob a father and his toddler son, who were in the drive-thru of McDonald’s at the intersection of FM 518 and state Highway 3 in League City, police said.

Witnesses told investigators a man walked up to a Ford F-150 pickup truck and pointed a handgun at the driver about 2:10 p.m., police said.

The driver, who is a concealed handgun license holder, pulled out his handgun and shot the man multiple times, striking him in the chest, police said.

The 37-year-old man, whose name had not been released, was taken to Clear Lake Regional Medical Center, where he died, police said.

Apparently this man didn't get that memo that a robber will shoot you before you can draw. Besides why does anyone need to take a gun to McDonald's?

Sorry kids, uncle Bloomie and aunt Shannon forgot about you...

About one year ago Mike Bloomberg's organizations Everytown for Gun Safety and Mom's Demand Action launched, with some hoopla, a campaign to reduce unintentional child shootings BESMARTFORKIDS. http://momsdemandaction.org/in-the-news/everytown-and-moms-demand-action-release-notanaccident-index-and-launch-be-smart-campaign-to-reduce-unintentional-child-shootings/
They released a video featuring Melissa Joan Heart, provided info-graphics about unintentional shootings involving children, a quiz to test you and a promise to give away gun locks so people could secure their firearms. They ended the week of launch with the 3rd annual march across the Brooklyn Bridge

So here we are, a year later and what has happened? Well, nothing.

The video is still on Youtube. It is difficult to find so here is a link-

The info-graphics are available and updated. http://everytownresearch.org/NotAnAccident/ Public Relations Executives, like Ms Watts- once employed by Monsanto, like info-graphics. They are very effective at visually presenting data without bothering with any of those untidy details of how that data was derived. If one cares to dig into the links, many of the unintentional child shootings are actually quite intentional shootings stemming from gang violence and other criminal activity. Indeed more than a few of the children would be legally considered adults, having passed the age of eighteen, a some would be old enough to buy alcohol having reached the age of twenty-one. It can be supposed this is a simple series of oversights given that Bloomberg's groups also listed one of the Boston Bomber's as a "victim of gun violence."

The quiz asks five questions to see how well you know the information provided by ET/MDA and one actually pertaining to gun safety.

Lastly there is a random number generator next to the quiz. It says it represents the number of people who have taken the quiz and the number of locks that will be given away. Over the last year the number has gone up and down many times ranging between 1500 to over 40,000. For the last month it has been stuck on 25,274. Not a single lock has been given out or apparently even procured.

The 4th annual Brooklyn Bridge march completed and notable by its absence was any mention of BESMARTFORKIDS. No follow up as to how the campaign has saved lives, no celebrity announcements of support, nothing. Actually the BESMARTFORKIDS campaign is not even listed of the MDA's campaign page http://momsdemandaction.org/moms-demand-action-campaigns/ .

So what happened? Why has such a worthy effort simply been forgotten a year after it began? As Bloomberg's employees haven't said anything in the last year, one must make assumptions. It simply never was about the kids. It was just another PR campaign for Bloomberg's groups like Ms Watts did for Monsanto. Try to keep your corporation's image favorable in the public eye. Unfortunately for the kids, this campaign would require followup. Buying and distributing locks would require money. TO ET/MDA that money is better spent on more visible PR, like professionally made signs to appear at all "grass-roots" photo ops, paying for Ms Watts armed bodyguards (and salary) and last but not least important- campaigning against Democrats who are not sufficiently pro-gun control. Last election Bloomberg's groups helped flip two out of three targeted Democratically held Senate seats to Republican. They have yet to flip, or even target, any Republican held seat.

Sorry kids, maybe some other time.

By comparison, the National Shooting Sports Foundation continued their lock give away program http://www.projectchildsafe.org/ , distributing over 300,000 locks in 2015. They also received a $2.4 million grant for the Department of Justice to go toward supporting firearm safety education by providing gun locks and safety materials to communities throughout the country in an effort to help reduce firearms misuse.
Oh, and they did not help get any Republicans elected to office.
