Felony suspect shot, killed by officers in Minneapolis' Powderhorn neighborhood

Felony suspect shot, killed by officers in Minneapolis' Powderhorn neighborhood; body cam footage to be released Thursday

A man was shot and killed by Minneapolis police officers Wednesday night in the city's Powderhorn neighborhood.

According to Minneapolis Police, officers were engaged in a traffic stop with a felony suspect near East 36th Street and Cedar Avenue at about 6:15 p.m.

During the stop, police said gunfire was exchanged and the suspect was struck. He was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel. According to Minneapolis Police Chief Medaria Arradondo, the suspect fired at officers before officers returned fire.

Police said a woman in the passenger's seat was not injured, and officers were also not injured in the incident.

Minneapolis police claim obstruction following recent shooting; City Council member wants George Floyd Square reopened

After two people were shot at 38th Street and Chicago Avenue Sunday night, the Minneapolis Police Department sent an email to City Council Members Andrea Jenkins and Alondra Cano, which said they had trouble getting to the area and when they did get to the scene of the shooting the evidence had been handled by people who oversee George Floyd Square.

George Floyd Square is cordoned off by a four-block area with barricades and is referred to by some as an "autonomous zone."

The email to Jenkins and Cano from a Minneapolis police inspector said, "I just wanted you to be aware of another incident at this location. Hostile crowds destroying evidence and initially refusing to entrance by 'security.'"

Jenkins told 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS she supports the memorialization of George Floyd Square and wants it to become a permanent fixture as she and others on the City Council pursue racial justice and police reform. But she does not condone any action which inhibits police investigations.

Wasn't the mayor and/or council working to have a plan for the intersection before the snow arrived?

Also I have been to the memorial, there were not a lot of people around but it was daytime. Do larger crowds gather at night?

'Operation Safety Net': National Guard could be deployed indefinitely while officers in Floyd case

'Operation Safety Net': National Guard could be deployed indefinitely while officers in Floyd case stand trial

The Minnesota National Guard is preparing for a potentially massive and indefinite deployment early next year, during the high-profile trial of the four former Minneapolis police officers tied to the death of George Floyd, according to an internal plan obtained by 5 INVESTIGATES.

The 12-page warning order called "Operation Safety Net" outlines in great detail how the guard will respond to anticipated civil unrest before, during and after the trial of Derek Chauvin, J Alexander Keung, Thomas Lane and Tou Thao.

The worst-case scenario calls for all available guard forces in the state to be activated for an indefinite period of time.

If activated, it would be an unprecedented commitment of time and resources on the heels of a record-setting year for citizen-soldiers and airmen who were also called to help stop the rioting and looting after Floyd’s death.

Undoubtedly the trial will receive national attention. How many other states will activate Guard units preemptively?

Attorney's office: No charges filed against pawn shop owner in man's shooting death

Attorney's office: No charges filed against pawn shop owner in man's shooting death

Nobody will be charged in connection to a man's death in May because looters destroyed all security video and only one witness cooperated.

The Hennepin County Attorney's Office said Monday that a pawn shop owner won't be charged in Calvin Horton Jr.'s death after a six-month investigation by Minneapolis police, citing insufficient evidence to overcome a self-defense argument.

Officers were called to 1538 E. Lake Street around dusk on May 27 and found Horton lying on the sidewalk, suffering from a gunshot wound. He later died at a hospital.

Because officers were verbally and physically assaulted, no firearm was recovered, police said, and crime lab personnel couldn't return to the crime scene until the following morning. By that time, everything in the pawn shop was gone, including security cameras and the DVR.

Prediction for a wild start to 2021, Biden will not be the 46th President

It will begin with Trump giving a blanket pardon to Pence to start the year, after which he will resign claiming by making it to January he has served a full term.

Pence will then give a pardon to Trump and all of his family for any crimes they may have "inadvertently" committed. He will remain long enough to sign a relief bill so Republicans can take credit after which he will resign.

Pelosi will then take office as the 47th President and appoint Hillary as her VP. Prior to inauguration day Nancy will resign allowing Hillary to take her rightful place as President of the United States, albeit the 48th. She will then attend the inauguration of the 49th President- Joe Biden.

This will also give both Trump and Pence an excuse to avoid attending the inauguration, having "pressing matters elsewhere."
