This Ukrainian couple spent their first day of marriage collecting rifles to defend their country
Ukrainian citizens Yaryna Arieva and Sviatoslav Fursin got married just hours after Russia launched its invasion of their country. They spent their first day as a married couple collecting their rifles and getting ready to defend Ukraine.
It was supposed to be a May wedding, but the couple were no longer sure of what their future holds.
Arieva and Fursin have both signed up with the Territorial Defense Forces, a branch of Ukraines armed forces that is comprised mostly of volunteers. Once armed, the couple headed to the office of their political party, the European Solidarity.
Right now, we are here and we are doing everything we can. So there is a lot of work to do, but still, I hope everything will be OK," Arieva said, adding that some civilians who are not part of the defense force were also given rifles.

What should the US do about Ukraine?
I know Biden has said we will not get directly involved, but there is a growing number of posters suggesting more aggressive action.
Ukraine, Poland and UK agree on accord to combat Russian aggression
British Foreign Secretary Liz Truss and her counterparts in Poland and Ukraine issued a joint statement on Thursday saying that the three nations would be developing a trilateral memorandum of co-operation to support Ukraine and combat Russian aggression amid rising tensions between the two Eastern European nations.
This will demonstrate our commitment to further strengthening the strategic cooperation and engagement between our 3 nations on the highest priority issues in support of Ukraine, the three said.
We will work together to advance our cooperation, which includes but not limited to co-ordinating support to the International Crimea Platform, increasing our collaboration on cyber security, energy security, and boosting strategic communications to counter disinformation, they added.
The three said that the United Kingdom and Poland stood in solidarity with Ukraine in helping the former Soviet state defend its independence and sovereignty and would provide Ukraine with support.

'Our criminal justice system is clearly broken' Craig Greenberg responds after Quintez Brown moved
A Louisville bail fund organization has posted bail for a man charged with the attempted murder of a mayoral candidate. The Louisville Community Bail Fund, supported by Black Lives Matter Louisville, paid the $100,000 bond set for Quintez Brown Wednesday afternoon.
Brown left Metro Corrections Wednesday evening hours after his bail was paid.
Brown is accused of trying to shoot Craig Greenberg at his Butchertown office on Monday. No one was injured in the incident, but a round struck Greenberg's clothing, according to Louisville Metro Police.
Greenberg released a statement Thursday, calling the criminal justice system "clearly broken."

Sha'Carri Richardson: Difference between her and Kamila Valieva's cases 'is I'm a black young lady'
U.S. track and field star ShaCarri Richardson questioned why a Russian figure skater was allowed to compete after a failed drug test and she had to sit out after her own drug test for marijuana came back positive.
Richardson responded to a USA TODAY article by Christine Brennan, in which she said that the Court of Arbitration for Sport's decision to allow Kamila Valieva, who tested positive for the heart drug trimetazidine, to compete in the women's figure skating competition at the 2022 Beijing Games "is just a slap in the face to all of those athletes doing it the right way,
The Russian Olympic Committee won gold in the team event last week, and the International Olympic Committee said there would be no medal ceremony.
The court said Valieva, who is 15 years old, is a protected person and therefore has different rules than adult athletes.
"Different rules" indeed.
I supported Sha' Carri's suspension on the basis of 'she knew the rules'. Kamila also 'knew the rules' if she took it voluntarily; if it was given without her knowledge her coach, or whomever, 'knew the rules'. The list of banned substances is not a secret and if Kamila had a legitimate need to have a prescription for a medication on the list the IOC should have been informed before competition or a positive test.
To suspend one but not the other is a double standard and makes mockery of the anti-doping rules. It also smacks of racism.
Minneapolis neighborhood plans to pay for extra police patrols
A group of neighbors in south Minneapolis is taking matters into their own hands to increase policing in their neighborhood.
The group is raising money to pay for extra patrols in the Lowry Hill neighborhood, performed by city officers working overtime.
The program, which was approved by city council last week, would run through the end of the year, the Minneapolis Police Department continues to work to cover a staffing shortage.
The leaders behind the initiative say the actual number of extra police on patrol will depend on how much money they raise and how many officers sign up for the extra shifts.

New idea- neighborhoods compete for police, highest bidder gets patrols. You're poor? Good luck, get a dog.
