I'm sure many of us here were already well aware of the terrible working conditions in foreign labor camps, but after some investigating it turns out that the Masanjia labor camp is possibly one of the most inhumane human rights violating labor camps in the entire world.
Here's some background:
Over the past four years and seven months, from July 1999 to February 2004, at least 99 practitioners were murdered there because of their belief in the universal principle of “Truthfulness-Compassion-Tolerance.” Their ages ranged from 27 to 65 and majority of them were only between 31 and 39 years old.
In one incident that was reported by several news agencies, 18 female practitioners were stripped naked and thrown into the cells of male criminals.
The Masanjia Labor Camp is a Fascist camp for the purpose of enslaving prisoners to perform labor for profit. Prisoners must work for extended hours under the most appalling conditions.

This is the wretched heart of capitalism & consumerism. And the Western world buys these products, mostly through retailers like Wal-Mart for example, not only enabling torture & death, but outsourcing the jobs from right under our feet. Harrowing & haunting side of capitalism rarely seen by those who don't look for it & don't care to know it exists.
Letter from Chinese Laborer Pleading for Help Found in Halloween Decorations
Julie Keith was unpacking some of last year's Halloween decorations when she stumbled upon an upsetting letter wedged into the packaging.
Tucked in between two novelty headstones that she had purchased at Kmart, she found what appeared to be a letter from the Chinese laborer, who had made the decoration, pleading for help.
The letter reads: "Sir, if you occasionally buy this product, please kindly resend this letter to the World Human Right Organization. Thousands people here who are under the persicution of the Chinese Communist Party Government will thank and remember you forever."
"I was so frustrated that this letter had been sitting in storage for over a year, that this person had written this plea for help and nothing had come of it." Julie Keith told Yahoo! Shine. "Then I was shocked. This person had probably risked their life to get this letter in this package."
The letter describes the conditions at the factory: "People who work here have to work 15 hours a day without Saturday, Sunday break and any holidays. Otherwise, they will suffer torturement, beat and rude remark. Nearly no payment (10 yuan/1 month)." That translates to about $1.61 a month.

Obama Drops the Hammer on Republicans and Pulls Back His Last Fiscal Cliff Proposal
After House Republicans imploded over their own Plan B, President Obama took away much of his previous proposal by calling for Republicans to get their act together and cut taxes on the 98% right now.
Obama said he met them on taxes and he met them more than halfway on spending, The president said he is still committed to working towards the goal of making a deal, but in 10 days we are facing a deadline. The president then reiterated his call for Congress to immediately extend the Bush tax cuts for the 98%. He said he spoke to both Boehner and Reid, and he is asking them to extend the tax cuts for the 98% and extend unemployment benefits. Obama said, “Governing is a shared responsibility between both parties…everybody’s got to give a little bit in a sensible way. We move forward together, or we don’t move forward at all.”
The president turned up the heat by asking members of Congress to think about their obligations to the people that they serve over Christmas. President Obama said, “We’re going to have find some common ground.” He said the challenge is that the American people are much more sensible, responsible, and willing to compromise than the people they elected.
Underneath all the nice language about compromise, President Obama pulled back any sort of cuts that he had offered in his previous proposal by urging Republicans and Democrats to pass a tax cut extension for the 98%. In other words, that $400,000 income cutoff for the tax cut extension is gone, and we are back to $250,000. In fact, the President appeared to take all spending cuts off the table.

The Wreckage of the Deepwater Horizon is Emitting a Mysterious Substance Into the Gulf of Mexico
Ever since it exploded on April 20, 2010 — killing 11 crew members — BP's Deepwater Horizon oil rig has been a rotting carcass submerged in the Gulf of Mexico. In related news, the Coast Guard announced tonight that a mysterious substance is leaking from the wreckage and nobody knows what it is:
Though you would hope that any issues with the Deepwater Horizon would end right there, that's not the case. "Oil sheens" have been spotted around the spot of the rig, but no one knows what's causing those either. The Coast Guard is hoping that the two issues are connected, but won't know until lab tests on the unknown leakage are completed.
But, hey, maybe it's a coincidence. What could be causing oil slicks around an abandoned, decaying exploded oil rig? Could be anything. The Gulf's three-eyed fish must be loving their new permanent neighbor.

On January 2nd 2013 introduce a bill to cut taxes for earners under $250,000/yr while raising taxes to (at least) 40% for top tax rates, plus continuation of unemployment benefits for those who need them. DARE the Republicans to vote against it, then when they do, spend the next 2 years using every outlet pinning this on the GOP and painting them as the party of the rich & of guns. They will be extinct in 2014 when the middle class sees their taxes go up. Social Security & Medicare are NOT EVEN in sequestration, why they would be in negotiations is mind-boggling. DARE them to vote against 98% of the country's citizens and watch them get only 2% of the vote in 2014. THAT'S how you play 3 dimensional chess.

Adam Lanza's Mother was a Doomsday Prepper.
There’s been some level of mystery about just why Adam Lanza’s first victim, Nancy Lanza, had such a stock of weapons, particularly military style weapons like the .223 Bushmaster. She wasn’t just into guns. She was apparently stocked up for when the economy collapses and when everyone’s on their own with their guns. Yeah, like that.
The Times has already reported that Lanza was a gun enthusiast. But there are lots of gun enthusiasts. And in most cases that just means you like hunting, or going to the hunting range or just are into the guns themselves.
But this sounds a little different.
WHDH 7 in New Hampshire, the local NBC affiliate, interviewed Lanza’s sister Marsha …
The reporter asked, “Survivalist kind of thing?”
“Yea,” said Marsha Lanza.
Nancy’s guns were supposed to be for self defense. Marsha Lanza called her nephew a special needs child. So far, no motive has been released.
“Just pray for peace,” said Marsha Lanza. “Do I think gun laws need to be changed? No. It’s the person that does the killing, not the gun.”
