Just Released: Democrats Unveil 2012 National Platform-

Some excerpts from a looong list which can be downloaded here: http://www.democrats.org/democratic-national-platform

Protecting A Woman’s Right to Choose: The Democratic Party strongly and unequivocally supports Roe v. Wade and a woman’s right to make decisions regarding her pregnancy, including a safe and legal abortion, regardless of ability to pay. We oppose any and all efforts to weaken or undermine that right. Abortion is an intensely personal decision between a woman, her family, her doctor, and her clergy; there is no place for politicians or government to get in the way.

We also recognize that health care and education help reduce the number of unintended pregnancies and thereby also reduce the need for abortions. We strongly and unequivocally support a woman’s decision to have a child by providing affordable health care and ensuring the availability of and access to programs that help women during pregnancy and after the birth of a child, including caring adoption programs.

Freedom to Marry: We support the right of all families to have equal respect, responsibilities, and protections under the law. We support marriage equality and support the movement to secure equal treatment under law for same-sex couples. We also support the freedom of churches and religious entities to decide how to administer marriage as a religious sacrament without government interference.

We oppose discriminatory federal and state constitutional amendments and other attempts to deny equal protection of the laws to committed same-sex couples who seek the same respect and responsibilities as other married couples. We support the full repeal of the so-called Defense of Marriage Act and the passage of the Respect for Marriage Act.

---------------------------

Also calls for reinstating the assault weapons ban and closing the gun show loophole – so that guns do not fall into the hands of those irresponsible, law-breaking few.

Also, opposes Citizens United, For strengthening Medicare, building upon the Affordable Care Act, & further Wall St reform.

Mitt Romney parties aboard a yacht called Cracker Bay that flies the Cayman Islands flag.

Gov. Mitt Romney's campaign toasted its top donors Wednesday aboard a 150-foot yacht flying the flag of the Cayman Islands.

The exclusive event, hosted by a Florida developer on his yacht "Cracker Bay," was one of a dozen exclusive events meant to nurture those who have raised more than $1 million for Romney's bid.

"I think it's ironic they do this aboard a yacht that doesn't even pay its taxes," said a woman who lives aboard a much smaller boat moored at the St. Petersburg Municipal Marina.

PLEASE NOTE: When watching free episode you may confront a series of pop-ups at first, disregard them. Also, if you pause the episode a the screen becomes an ad, to disregard the ad just press PLAY button again, not the ad.

Also, if you haven't seen the first 9 episodes some of the premise might confuse you, such as the NSA whistleblower story, the deleted voicemail, the entire side show love story, the death threats, phone hackings, & Will being high on the air during the Bin Laden raid news cast in one previous episode (he ate 2 pot cookies at a party then had to rush to studio because of late breaking Bin Laden dead news). But all in all you will recognize all the news stories from this episode.

Have You Seen THIS Supposed Video Of Romney??

Because of it being audio only it hasn't been confirmed, but it sure sounds like him.

At Bain, Romney Shopped For a Factory in China Where Young Women Worked Behind Barbed Wire for a Pittance.

It features Mitt Romney at some sort of fundraiser or event admitting that he outsourced jobs to China and used Chinese slave labor (colloquially-speaking) during his tenure at Bain Capital, and managing to rationalize it in the process:

If You Have An Hour To Kill, This Is Worth The Watch

Dan Savage debates Brian Brown of NOM over Same-sex marriage while in Dan's dining room after dinner.

It's 1hr 6minutes long. And is moderated by Mark Oppenheimer NY Times Belief column.

Dan, as usual, makes great points about civil rights & SSM while Brian keeps resorting back to the NOM talking point that men & women were meant to be together because it brings together "the best of humanity". In the end, Dan righteously debunks & slays Brian by using facts, logic, & reason, leaving Brian nothing but to keep rehashing his only talking point.

EDIT to add: This debate took place one week ago, August 16th 2012.

The theme of this year's RNC convention is "We Built This!"

Only one problem with their individualistic bullshit mantra: The RNC convention was completely built using taxpayer money & will be guarded by Unionized police officers & Unionized firefighters. Their flights will arrive safely thanks to TSA pat-downs and their bussing in of nut-jobs & hyper-fundamentalists will drive on collectivist roads. Still trying to find out if the convention was built using Union labor.

Oh, and the "fiscally conservative" GOPers are spending $2.5 million on a fancy stage.

Gather 'Round For Another Lesson In Women's Rights & Health Issues from the GOP

Get ready for some cold, hard science facts.

Republican Senate Nominee Todd Akin Explains That Women Don’t Really Get Pregnant From ‘Legitimate Rape’

Rep. Todd Akin, the Republican nominee for Senate in Missouri, doesn't think abortion in the case of rape is really an issue. That's because he has it on good authority that women don't get pregnant from "legitimate rape" anyway.

First of all, from what I understand from doctors [pregnancy from rape] is really rare. If it's a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down.

The nonsense term "legitimate rape" aside, this claim is based on the belief that the female body won't let itself become pregnant during a rape, I guess because the women don't want to have a baby?
