Hillary in Davenport and Dubuque IOWA Jan 29

I saw a post somewhere here on DU this morning in which a picture was posted and a comment (paraphrasing this) for Jan 29. The comment said something to the effect of -lots of press but nothing else. A few responses followed with snark about small crowds.
Anyway, the pic that the Sanders supporter posted was the press setting up before the Town Hall in Dubuque Iowa.

So--to correct the record I am posting a few pics of Hillary's Jan 29 Town Hall in Dubuque once the event got going.

** And just to be clear---I do not care about whether or not the crowd was large or small. We all know that Hillary does Town Halls where she can interact and communicate with the audience. Large rallies are not conducive to that.

Enjoy the pics

ADEL, Iowa — Hillary Clinton’s voice thundered through a bowling alley as she railed against corporate treachery and greed — then turned soft and thoughtful as she promised to “work my heart out” if elected.

Clinton barely mentioned Sen. Bernie Sanders, her rival for the Democratic presidential nomination, during the appearance Wednesday morning, though her angry rant against corporate “inversion” deals and prescription drug “price-gouging” borrowed a leaf from his populist playbook.

Here in the final, five-day sprint of an uncomfortably close Democratic contest in Iowa, Clinton has largely abandoned a strategy that appears to have done little to improve her standing with voters here: trying to directly discredit the senator from Vermont and his unstintingly liberal proposals......................

National Asian American and Pacific Islander PAC Endorses Clinton for President

National Asian American and Pacific Islander PAC Endorses Clinton for President

http://www.nbcnews.com/news/asian-america/national-asian-american-pacific-islander-pac-endorses-clinton-president-n505801

by Frances Kai-Hwa Wang

The Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) political action committee CAPA21 formally endorsed Hillary Clinton for president today, citing her track record on AAPI community issues and staff appointments. CAPA21 is the first major AAPI political action committee to make an endorsement in the 2016 presidential race.

"CAPA21's endorsement of Secretary Clinton is a recognition of her attention to AAPIs and AAPI issues in her campaign," Glen S. Fukushima, CAPA21 co-founder and chair, told NBC News. "A major rally dedicated to AAPIs, her AAPI Leadership Council, her vision statement on AAPI prosperity, and her appointment of AAPIs to key campaign positions demonstrate that she values AAPI voters."

According to AAPIData and the Center for American Progress, the number of Asian American voters has doubled in the last 12 years, growing an average of 620,000 voters in each of the last three election cycles. The AAPI electorate also nearly equaled or outnumbered the margin of victories in three swing states during the last presidential election, according to AAPIData.

"Asian American voters in Nevada, Virginia, and Florida can determine the electoral outcome in those states." Fukushima said. "Nevada is key with a significant Asian American, especially Filipino American, population, and the state's 'First in the West' presidential caucus." ......................

Sanders won’t give previously advertised foreign policy speech before Iowa caucuses, aide says

By John Wagner January 29 at 11:57 AM

BURLINGTON, Iowa — With time running out before Monday’s Iowa caucuses, an aide confirmed Friday that presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders has no plans to deliver a previously advertised speech on foreign policy before the first votes are cast in the Democratic race.

In early December, the Vermont senator told The Washington Post that he planned to give a major address on foreign policy in Iowa. At the time, Sanders was facing questions about why a campaign message dominated by domestic policy had not broadened more in the wake of terrorist-inspired attacks in Paris and San Bernardino, Calif.

On Friday, Sanders communications director Michael Briggs said no speech is planned, adding that Sanders has spoken extensively in recent weeks about foreign policy, including during a breakfast with reporters Thursday in Des Moines hosted by Bloomberg Politics.
......................

Sanders’s stump speeches continue to be heavily focused on domestic issues, particularly economic policy. As often as not, he does not go into any detail on international affairs unless an audience member asks him a question on the subject.

Democratic presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton rallies supporters in Des Moines ahead of Monday’s Iowa caucuses. (Gromer Jeffers Jr.)

Looking to energize her base before Monday’s critical Iowa caucuses, Hillary Clinton said Friday that Democrats have moved the country forward and Americans should not return to the failed Republican policies of the past.

“We’re on the right path,” Clinton said during a rally in Des Moines. “We just have to stay with it and believe we can do it.”

Clinton said the presidential terms of her husband, Bill Clinton, as well as Barack Obama, put the economy on the right track and helped average Americans.

She said Republicans were too negative and had the wrong ideas. She urged the crowd to demand that their elected leaders aim high......................

Hillary Clinton’s Final Caucus TV Ad: A Thank You To Iowans

I am so proud of Hillary. She has listened to the people--and weaved and created polices based on their problems. Well done Hillary.

Hillary Clinton’s Final Caucus TV Ad: A Thank You To

http://iowastartingline.com/2016/01/29/hillary-clintons-final-caucus-tv-ad-a-thank-you-to-iowans/

January 29th, 2016

.......................

“I want you to know how much it has meant to me as I’ve traveled across the state to hear about people’s hopes and struggles,” Clinton says in her final television ad, released today.

..................................

An all-in caucus operation aimed at building real relationships with Iowans has been lauded by many, and the persistent questions last spring over whether Clinton would take Iowa seriously this time seem like distant memories. But changes in Clinton’s personal approach at her events around Iowa have reflected a different, improved candidacy as well. Clinton herself seems to be having fun on trail, enjoying the interactions in question-and-answer sessions with caucus-goers and the stories she hears from Iowans.

The early strategy of getting her closer to real Iowans by holding round tables on specific policies and by hosting house parties with only 50 to 100 attendees seemed to have paid off in some ways in the long run. She comes armed to Iowa events with multiple personal stories from Iowans she’s met, and works them into her larger policies and visions.

This Wednesday she appeared at a bowling alley in Adel run by a young man she met on her very first trip to Iowa at a small business round table. Bryce Smith, the owner, explained to Clinton back in April how he had difficulty obtaining loans for his business because of his student loan debt. It was a story Clinton shared at countless events around Iowa (and beyond) for months afterward. And it’s one of many that she seems to think has improved her both as a candidate and potential president..............................

“I know that because of that I will be a better president if I’m elected,” Clinton acknowledges in the ad.........................

This post has been updated.

This below is going to sound more cynical than I mean it to, so let’s get a brief disclaimer out of the way: I believe — with very few exceptions — that politicians in both major parties are sincere when they respond to others’ plights.

I also believe that one consideration when politicians decide which plights to respond to (can’t get ’em all) is how their words and actions will play in the media. Put plainly: When you’re running for president, you pick the causes that make sense — both because they're important and because they're politically important.

Hillary Clinton’s selection of the Flint water crisis as her cause of the moment is a savvy media strategy that gives her the look of a compassionate commander-in-chief — one who can help set the news agenda with something other than shock value. In bringing up lead contamination unprompted during Sunday’s debate (she raised it in smaller settings before and after, too), Clinton simultaneously used her status to shine a spotlight on the problem and cast herself as the victims' advocate....................
