Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., decried President Donald Trump’s decision to order the killing of a top Iranian official and escalate tensions with the Middle Eastern nation without informing Congress.
Pelosi condemned Trump’s “dangerous escalation of tensions” with Iran, saying the drone strike that killed a top Iranian military commander was carried out without authorization from Congress.
“The full Congress must be immediately briefed on this serious situation and on the next steps under consideration by the administration, including the significant escalation of the deployment of additional troops to the region,” she said.
But Sen. Lindsey Graham, a close Trump ally, told Fox News that he got a briefing while golfing with Trump in Florida.......................

Selective Service System website crashes amid questions and fears of another US military draft

(CNN)The Selective Service website crashed Friday because of "the spread of misinformation," the agency tweeted.
The website's crash came hours after the announcement that the head of Iran's Revolutionary Guards' Quds Force, Qasem Soleimani, was killed by a US airstrike ordered by President Donald Trump. The hashtag #WorldWarIII was one of the top trends on Twitter Friday.
The incident led to threats of retaliation from Iran's government and the escalation of tensions between the US and Iran. It sparked fears on social media of a war between the two countries and the possibility of another military draft in the US.
"Due to the spread of misinformation, our website is experiencing high traffic volumes at this time," the Selective Service tweeted. "If you are attempting to register or verify registration, please check back later today as we are working to resolve this issue. We appreciate your patience."...................................

Law enforcement agencies in several major US cities have issued alerts advising residents to be vigilant in the wake of the US strike against Iran’s top general as officials said they were stepping up security efforts at sensitive locations.
Chad Wolf, acting secretary of the US Department of Homeland Security, said his agency was working with law enforcement officials and others across the country and was ready to respond to any threats, though none had yet been detected.
In New York City, Mayor Bill de Blasio announced he was consulting with city officials about steps the the police department will take to protect key locations “from any attempt by Iran or its terrorist allies to retaliate against America”.

Rep. Ro Khanna (D-Calif.) and Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) called on Friday to introduce legislation that "blocks Pentagon funding for any unilateral actions" taken by President Trump "to wage war against Iran without congressional authorization."
The big picture: Trump claimed on Friday that the U.S. airstrike that killed top Iranian commander Qasem Soleimani was not intended to start a war. Both Democrats and Republicans — such as Sens. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) and Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) — have criticized Trump for not obtaining congressional approval for the strike.

WASHINGTON — Democratic Sen. Tim Kaine has introduced a war powers resolution to cease hostilities with Iran until military actions are approved by Congress.
After 10 days, Kaine can force a vote on his motion in the Senate, which cannot be blocked by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell. Kaine’s move comes after President Donald Trump authorized the killing of Iranian military leader Qassem Soleimani Thursday in Iraq, and amid expectations of retaliation by Iran.
“The question of whether United States forces should be engaged in armed conflict against Iran should only be made following a full briefing to Congress and the American public of the issues at stake, a public debate in Congress, and a congressional vote as contemplated by the Constitution,” states the resolution.
If passed, Kaine's resolution would direct Trump to remove US forces “from hostilities against the Islamic Republic of Iran or any part of its government or military” within 30 days, unless Congress acts to authorize military action.
Trump did not brief the congressional leadership “Gang of Eight” — the heads of each party in the House and Senate, as well as the leaders of each party in the House and Senate Intelligence Committees — about the Soleimani attack in advance. Trump did, however, brief Sen. Lindsey Graham, who was golfing with the president at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida in advance of the attack. House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy was also with Trump at Mar-a-Lago during the attack Thursday.
McConnell said Friday that senators would receive a briefing on the strike next week..........................................

Newly released memos from special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation shed light on communications between Trump’s former campaign chairman and the Fox News host.
Former Donald Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort said Fox News host Sean Hannity was his “back channel” to the White House while Manafort was being investigated for financial crimes, according to newly released documents obtained by BuzzFeed News.
Text messages released in June 2019 showed how friendly Manafort and Hannity were as they complained together about the investigation into Manafort. But the newly released documents show Manafort thought Hannity was a conduit for receiving messages from the president.
The memos from special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election were obtained through a freedom of information request, and contain summaries of FBI witness interviews.
In his interview summary dated October 2018, Manafort told the special counsel’s office that he “knew Hannity was speaking to Trump around then because Hannity would tell Manafort to hang in there, that he had been talking to Trump, that Trump had his back, and things like that.” .........................

OCONTO – Residents and officials in the city of Oconto are continuing to clean up from the worst flooding in decades after the Oconto River overran its banks Monday night and Tuesday.
Many homes and properties were affected, though the number and the extent of damage have not yet been compiled, said Oconto City Administrator Sara Perrizo.
The high water affected primarily Pecor, McDonald, Water, Turner, Ontario, Bridge, First and Second streets, though properties along adjacent roads could have also been flooded. The mobile home park on Farnsworth Avenue also flooded.
Some residents evacuated their homes, though it's not yet known how many were displaced. Oconto Fire Rescue Department provided help to residents who were leaving.
At one point, 3 feet of water was standing on Pecor Street, Perrizo said..................
