Turkey attacks US allies after Trump stands down

•Oct 9, 2019

Turkey began a planned military offensive into northeastern Syria on Wednesday, launching airstrikes and artillery fire across the border just days after the Trump administration announced it was pulling US troops back from the area.

The operation is aimed at pushing Kurdish forces -- who were a key ally of the US in the fight against ISIS -- away from Turkey's border.

"Our aim is to destroy the terror corridor which is trying to be established on our southern border and to bring peace and peace to the region," Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan tweeted as he announced the start of the operation.

The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) who operate in the area are US allies. They are led by the Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG), which Turkey considers a terrorist organization.

2017 episode bears hallmarks of Trump approach to Ukraine call

President Donald Trump pressed then-Secretary of State Rex Tillerson to help persuade the Justice Department to drop a criminal case against an Iranian-Turkish gold trader who was a client of Rudy Giuliani, according to three people familiar with the 2017 meeting in the Oval Office.

Tillerson refused, arguing it would constitute interference in an ongoing investigation of the trader, Reza Zarrab, according to the people. They said other participants in the Oval Office were shocked by the request.

Trump says the Kurds did not help us during WWII, nor in Normandy nor D-Day..............

Each day I have this thought that it can't get any worse. Then it does.

.@realDonaldTrump
is sooooo ignorant.

In 1996 I participated in Operation PACIFIC HAVEN, where the DoD airlifted Kurds out of Iraq and into Guam. Why? Because the Kurds helped US fight Saddam Hussein.

Kurds also helped US fight ISIS. Kurds have been one of our strongest allies.

Trump making major push to turn Minnesota red in 2020. State Dems say they 'can't keep up.'

........................

It’s the biggest push any Republican presidential candidate has made to win Minnesota in recent memory. That reality has energized state Republicans — and spooked Democrats.

............................

Trump and Vice President Mike Pence will rally together at Target Center on Thursday night, and Pence will make a stop in Lakeville earlier in the day. Second Lady Karen Pence and the president’s daughter-in-law, Lara Trump, also appeared at a “Women for Trump” panel discussion at Union Depot in St. Paul on Wednesday night.

Campaign staff and national Republican officials have been here since the beginning of the summer. Trump Victory has trained more than 1,000 Minnesotans to volunteer their time to get the word out to Republican voters. One of those training sessions was held Monday night in Anoka, where several dozen residents were educated inside a banquet room at the Greenhaven Golf Course.

Minnesota DFL Chairman Ken Martin said he has never seen such a concerted Republican effort this early. The DFL Party launched a #MoneyBlizzard fundraising blitz this week in response to the president’s visit, warning supporters that the Trump campaign is “staffing up in Minnesota in ways we’ve never seen before, and frankly we just can’t keep up.”..................

Matt Drudge, an influential figure in conservative media, sours on Trump as he faces impeachment

Cnn panel was just discussing this. I realize that Drudge could change his tune on a dime but can't help but to wonder what the MAGA folks are thinking about this turn (I have not visited his site so have no idea what he is posting).

Matt Drudge, an influential figure in conservative media, sours on Trump as he faces impeachment

New York (CNN Business)President Donald Trump, facing an ever-deepening scandal that threatens to swallow his presidency, appears to have lost a key ally in conservative media: The Drudge Report.

The narrative-setting news aggregation website, founded in 1995 by Matt Drudge, has spotlighted an overwhelming amount of negative news for the Trump White House in the last several weeks. It's marked a major shift from how the outlet had previously covered the President.

"He's reacting to changing circumstances," a person close to the media mogul, who said Drudge had grown exasperated with Trump, told CNN Business.

Matt Drudge (L) and President Trump

This should worry Trump as he faces an impeachment inquiry in the House of Representatives for pushing Ukraine to investigate former Vice President Joe Biden, the leading Democratic presidential contender, and Biden's son Hunter.

In the coming weeks and months, right-wing media will be crucial to whether Trump is able to survive the growing scandal. If he loses support in that space, it would offer Republicans wiggle room to turn on him, which could endanger his presidency.

President Trump on Wednesday lashed out at the intelligence community inspector general over his handling of a whistleblower complaint raising alarm over Trump’s conversations with Ukraine.

In a series of tweets, Trump described the whistleblower complaint and related controversy as a “hoax” and a “scam.”

Trump also questioned Intelligence Community Inspector General (ICIG) Michael Atkinson’s handling of the complaint and asserted that Atkinson “should have never let it start.”

“Why doesn’t the ICIG do something about this Scam? He should have never let it start, a Dem Hoax!” Trump tweeted Wednesday.

Giuliani says he won't testify before House investigators
By John Bowden - 10/08/19 02:47 PM EDT

President Trump's personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani said Tuesday that he would not testify before the House Intelligence Committee unless committee members voted to remove Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) from the panel's chairmanship.

In an interview with The Washington Post, the former mayor of New York City said he was taking the White House's position that Schiff's congressional committee was illegitimate. He added the Trump administration would soon release a formal statement concerning the Intelligence Committee.

“I wouldn’t testify in front of that committee until there is a vote of Congress and he is removed,” Giuliani said, referring to Schiff. “Let them hold me in contempt. We’ll go to court. We’ll challenge the contempt.”

“The position I’m stating is now the position of the administration,” Giuliani continued.
