Analysis: President Donald Trump defectors help Joe Biden build leads in Wisconsin and Michigan

Joe Biden holds a significant lead in the pivotal states of Michigan and Wisconsin, with President Donald Trump so far failing to retain the overwhelming advantage he enjoyed among white voters there in 2016, according to surveys from The New York Times and Siena College on Monday.

Overall, Biden led Trump by 8 percentage points in Michigan, 48% to 40%, among likely voters. His lead in Wisconsin was slightly larger, 51% to 41%.

The new results, along with recent Times/Siena surveys from elsewhere in the Northern battlegrounds, suggest that the president has not yet managed to reassemble his winning coalition across the region. He faces modest but significant defections among white and independent voters, while facing a groundswell of opposition from those who voted for a minor-party candidate or didn’t vote at all in 2016.

The president’s path to reelection is narrow if he doesn’t win either Wisconsin or Michigan. If Biden puts those two states in his column, along with the states carried by Hillary Clinton in 2016, he will hold 258 electoral votes, putting him on the doorstep of the 270 needed to win.

How the Northern battlegrounds have gone from Trump +3 to Biden +6

People who have switched sides since 2016 make up less than 4% of registered voters. But they effectively pack twice the punch of other voters, as they have both deducted a vote from their former preferred candidate and added one to the candidate they now support. Alone, these switches would be enough to give Biden a fairly comfortable victory, even without any change in the composition of the electorate or in the attitudes of voters who back a minor-party candidate.

In this tweet, Ivanka Trump says the part you are not supposed to say out loud: That she's using her government position to "support @realdonaldtrump
re-election campaign."

This is an obvious violation of the Hatch Act.

Twitter Flags Trump's Tweet Claiming He Is Immune to Coronavirus

Twitter Flags Trump’s Tweet Claiming He Is Immune to Coronavirus

Updated Oct. 11, 2020 6:22PM ET /

Twitter has labeled President Trump’s tweet repeating his claim that he is now immune to the coronavirus as misinformation and disabled some sharing options on it. In the tweet, Trump said he had “A total and complete sign off from White House Doctors yesterday. That means I can’t get it (immune) and can’t give it. Very nice to know!!” In line with Twitter’s policy that keeps tweets with misinformation from elected officials visible, the tweet is labeled as a violation of its coronavirus misinformation policy. Trump’s assertion contradicts documented cases of coronavirus reinfection, including a man in Hong Kong who showed little to no symptoms during his second bout with the illness. Sunday’s tweet is one of several of the president’s recent posts that the social media giant has labeled for violating its content policies, including examples of manipulated media and casting doubt on the integrity of mail-in voting.

Arizona Republic

Ivanka Trump, President Donald Trump's daughter and adviser, is returning to Arizona to help solidify support among Republicans and independent voters for her father and Republicans down-ballot.

She will headline a moderated discussion at 4 p.m. Sunday in Phoenix about the administration's policies and how they have affected Arizonans, particularly key constituencies crucial to Republicans' hopes of holding the state red.

No details about the venue were available.

Ivanka Trump's return to battleground Arizona marks her second this year: in September, she joined Gov. Doug Ducey for a roundtable with local business leaders and spent time visiting volunteers at a local Latinos for Trump Victory Office.

According to the campaign, she has "consistently tested negative for COVID-19 over the last two weeks and out of an abundance of caution, has been working from home this week." The president remains at the White House, recovering from his bout of the virus.

“Under President Trump’s leadership, Arizona is leading the Great American Comeback for the country," Ivanka Trump said in a written statement to The Arizona Republic. ..............................

Report: Trump Staffers Are Furious President Won't Fire Mark Meadows

Report: Trump Staffers Are Furious President Won’t Fire Mark Meadows

In the last two weeks, an astonishing number of people connected to Donald Trump have come down with COVID-19. .......................

While the country is desperate for information about the president and his health, neither his staff or his doctors have been forthcoming with information. And the person responsible for that, other than Trump, is Chief of Staff Mark Meadows.

While Meadows job is very difficult, he hasn’t done a good job of earning public trust. And he also hasn’t earned the trust of Trump staffers. According to Politico, the staffers are furious that the president won’t fire his Chief of Staff.

here“>Nancy Cook and Meridith McGraw report:

“His management has left many inside the White House frustrated, including, at times, Trump himself. Numerous White House aides said they feel Meadows has failed to keep hundreds of aides safe, not communicating much about new positive diagnoses within the complex, or signaling what, if any, safety protocols were being adopted during a frightening seven-day stretch that saw the virus race around the administration. The lack of information has bred distrust and low staff morale in a White House already known for infighting.”
