(CNN) — Young men hoping to join a White supremacist group spoke about hosting paramilitary trainings and how to legally bring firearms to those events, according to secret recordings of vetting calls published by the Southern Poverty Law Center Thursday.
Some 83 hours of calls with more than 100 participants linked to The Base group were analyzed by the SPLC, which monitors hate, for a new podcast, “Sounds Like Hate.”
Military training or knowledge of firearms was an important asset, according to the released calls. So was having a place to train.

The SPLC’s release of parts of the calls comes at a time when US intelligence services say domestic violent extremists, specifically White supremacist groups are the “the most persistent and lethal threat in the Homeland.”...................

Mitch McConnell's Hand Is Discolored But He Swears Nothing Is Wrong

Mitch McConnell, the 78-year-old Senate Majority Leader currently running for reelection, is denying any health issues despite photos showing his hand bandaged and severely discolored.
On Wednesday, photos went viral of McConnell bending down to pick up a dropped face mask on Capitol Hill the day prior, revealing his right hand to be much darker than the rest of his body and that his thumb is bandaged.
McConnell's office did not respond to numerous requests for comment from BuzzFeed News about the health of the top Senate Republican, who is up for reelection in Kentucky in just under two weeks.
However, when asked by a reporter on Thursday about his health and the concerning photos of his hand, McConnell denied there was an issue.
"Do you have some kind of health issue?" asked Politico reporter John Bresnahan. "Everyone been's talking about your hands."

The 2020 campaign cycle continues to get uglier with a North Carolina Republican making explicitly racist attacks on his Democratic Party opponent.
“A new attack website put up by the Madison Cawthorn campaign includes an explicitly racist broadside against his opponent, Moe Davis (D-NC), for associating himself with people who want to ‘ruin white males.’ For real,” Tim Miller of The Bulwark reported Thursday.
“The website, MoeTaxes.com takes aim at Davis over one of his advisors Tom Fielder. It says that Fielder ‘quit his academia job in Boston to work for non-white males, like Cory Booker who aims to ruin white males.’ Putting the atrocious syntax aside… Quitting one’s job to work for someone who isn’t white is . . . a problem now? Booker’s blackness is the issue that offends you?” Miller asked. “In Donald Trump’s white grievance party, apparently so.”
“Cawthorn’s despicable smear echoes President Trump’s recent racist dog whistle (dog horn?) attacks on Booker. Trump has made a feature of his stump speech a line about how Joe Biden plans to send Cory Booker of all people into the suburbs to somehow ruin everything for reasons that are a total mystery. ASHWAUBENON - Former Democratic presidential contender Pete Buttigieg stopped in the Green Bay area Thursday to stump for Joe Biden, blaming President Donald Trump's response to the coronavirus pandemic for the plight of small businesses and a gutted economy.
The former mayor of South Bend, Indiana, joined Green Bay Mayor Eric Genrich and Hinterland Brewery owners Michelle and Bill Tressler to discuss the pandemic's economic impact. He characterized Biden as the candidate best equipped to help the country recover.
“We shouldn’t have to settle for the worst outcomes and the worst performance of any country in the developed world," Buttigieg said at the brewery.
By visiting Ashwaubenon, Buttigieg found himself in a region with one of the highest COVID-19 infection rates in the country. Thursday's event was streamed online, and people at the brewery were required to wear masks and socially distance — a stark contrast to the large rallies held by Trump......................

Buttigieg's visit came less than two weeks before a presidential election in which Wisconsin is expected to play a pivotal role. The Green Bay media market is particularly competitive, and both campaigns have flooded the airwaves with ads as Biden aims to win back voters that overwhelmingly went for Trump in 2016.......................

Trump says he hopes Supreme Court strikes down ObamaCare

“It is developed. It is fully developed. It is going to be announced very soon when we see what happens with ObamaCare, which is not good,” Trump said when questioned by CBS News correspondent Lesley Stahl on why he hasn’t released the health care plan that he has long promised.
“It will be much less expensive than ObamaCare, which is a disaster, and it will take care of people with preexisting conditions,” he continued.
Trump would not elaborate on how the plan would protect those with preexisting conditions. He claimed that “pieces” of his plan had been released before, saying later that it “will” be developed, suggesting that despite his assurances it has not been fully formed.
“We have to see what happens. It’s got a ways to go. We’ll see what happens,” Trump said of his administration’s current efforts to challenge the ACA, a case the Supreme Court is slated to take up in November following the election.
“I hope that they end it. It will be so good if they end it because we will come up with a plan,” Trump said.
Stahl pressed Trump on his plan, noting that he used the word “will” when discussing its formation. She repeatedly noted that many Americans would be “scrambling” if the Supreme Court strikes down ObamaCare without Republicans having a plan to replace it.

(CNN)Even as the Trump administration seeks to kill the Affordable Care Act, it is taking credit for making it more attractive to consumers
The average premium for the benchmark plan will drop by 2% next year in the 36 states using the federal exchange, the third year in a row of declines, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services announced Monday. Premiums have declined a total of 8% since 2018.
Also, many consumers will have a greater choice of plans. Some 22 more issuers will offer coverage next year, when considering states that are also participating in the federal exchange this year. That brings the total to 181. The share of counties with only one participating insurer will drop to 9% next year, down from 50% in 2018.................................

The trend is a marked turnaround from the early days of the Affordable Care Act exchanges, which launched in 2014. Many insurers underestimated the health needs of enrollees and priced their plans too low, causing them to suffer big losses.
