Critics Rip Devin Nunes For Threatening To Sue Over Reports He Sought Biden Dirt From Ukraine

#NunesResign started to trend on Twitter after Lev Parnas’ attorney said his client is willing to testify that the congressman met with an ex-Ukraine prosecutor in Europe.

Prickly Donald Trump supporter Rep. Devin Nunes (R-Calif.) was skewered on Twitter Sunday for threatening to sue over media reports that he met with a Ukrainian prosecutor over corruption concerns to get dirt on Joe Biden.

The ensuing uproar sent the hashtag “Nunes Resign” trending on Twitter.

CNN reported Saturday that Rudy Giuliani’s indicted crony Lev Parnas is willing to testify to Congress that Nunes met last year with former Ukrainian prosecutor Viktor Shokin in a hunt for negative information on Biden. Congressional records reveal that Nunes and three aides flew to Europe for a four-day trip at the same time Parnas said the meeting occurred at a cost of $63,000.

Shokin was forced out of office by Ukraine Parliament in 2016 following pressure from the U.S., spearheaded by then-vice president Biden, and other Western allies over concerns about corruption.

If true, such actions by Nunes, the ranking Republican on the House Intelligence Committee, are “arguably a crime,” former federal prosecutor Elie Honig warned on CNN Saturday. “It’s a federal crime for a person to try to solicit something of value to a political campaign from a foreign national,” Honig noted.

Nunes has flatly blasted the reports as “demonstrably false,” but he hasn’t offered any specifics. Instead, he is threatening to sue CNN and the Daily Beast, which first covered the Parnas information..........................

Kamala Harris Sums Up In 90 Seconds Why Trump Should Be Impeached And Removed

Kamala Harris Sums Up In 90 Seconds Why Trump Should Be Impeached And Removed

It took Sen. Kamala Harris about a minute and a half to perfectly sum up the reason why Trump should be impeached and removed from office.

Sen. Harris (D-CA) said on MSNBC’s Politics Nation:

He put his personal interests in front of national security. He took and was soliciting a favor from a foreign government to serve his personal political interest. Again, his personal interests are against the interests of national security. It’s not like he was saying, buy me a fur coat. He was asking to interfere in our democracy and compromising our relationship and our credibility with an ally around what should be America’s interests in maintaining and supporting democracies around the world.

To compromise the credibility of the United States of America in that regard means not only that the interaction with that particular head of state, but word gets around. It means the word of the President Of The United States is no longer taken to be a word that is spoken with authority and with the best interests of the whole in mind but instead personal interests.

Video:

A president has no greater responsibility than putting the interests of the nation ahead of all else, and Donald Trump has abused the power granted to him in the Constitution and violated his oath of office...

Former rancher says failure to restore meat labeling law is costing rural America 'billions'

Former rancher says failure to restore meat labeling law is costing rural America 'billions'

https://thehill.com/hilltv/rising/471677-former-cattle-rancher-calls-for-restoration-of-mandatory-meat-labeling-on-all

11/22/2019

A former cattle rancher said Friday that the U.S. government’s inaction over the restoration of a mandatory labeling program on certain meats is having a major impact on farmers and ranchers across the country.

Bill Bullard, who now leads an organization that represents thousands of independent cattle producers, says the Trump administration and Congress “refuse" to give them "the tools they need to compete in the market place." This includes being able to market their products as "Made in the USA," which he emphasized would first require the restoration of the Country of Origin labeling (COOL) on beef and pork products.

While COOL regulations are still in effect for some meat products like lamb and chicken, Congress in 2015 repealed a program that requires this same labeling requirement for beef and pork. The decision was made in response to a series of rulings by the World Trade Organization prohibiting country of origin labels on some products due to concerns that the requirements were too costly and discriminated against meat imports.

Bullard criticized the decision to rollback the program, saying the move has created a "corporate welfare program for the meat packers."

"It insulates them from competition and it forces the American farmer and rancher to try and compete in a global marketplace with their hands tied behind their back because they can't use the fundamental tools necessary to compete and that's to distinguish your higher quality product in the marketplace," Bullard, CEO of R-Calf USA, told Hill.TV.

.............................

.........................
Montana Sen. Jon Tester (D) introduced a resolution in October supporting the reestablishment of COOL.

"Our farmers and ranchers produce the best agricultural products in the world," Tester said in a statement. "Consumers want to buy those American-made products, and country of origin labeling lets producers show their product was raised right here in America-and ensures folks can make informed choices about the food they buy."

Bullard said Tester’s efforts are “precisely” what ranchers need and “nothing less.”

Documents released to ethics group show Giuliani, Pompeo contacts before Ukraine ambassador ousted

Nearly 100 pages of documents, including emails, were released by the watchdog group American Oversight late Friday.

State Department emails link Rudy Giuliani to Mike Pompeo

An ethics group late Friday published nearly 100 pages of previously unreleased State Department documents that the group says shows “a clear paper trail” between President Donald Trump’s lawyer Rudy Giuliani and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo before a Ukraine ambassador was abruptly recalled.

The documents were published by American Oversight, which calls itself a non-partisan and nonprofit ethics watchdog and Freedom of Information Act litigator investigating the Trump administration.

They appear to show two calls between Giuliani and Pompeo in March, around a month before former Ukraine ambassador Marie Yovanovitch, an anti-corruption expert, was abruptly called back to the U.S. in April and then removed from the post.

David Hale, undersecretary of state for political affairs, testified on Wednesday that Pompeo and Giuliani spoke on the phone twice in late March.

The information released Friday "reveals a clear paper trail from Rudy Giuliani to the Oval Office to Secretary Pompeo to facilitate Giuliani's smear campaign against a U.S. ambassador," Austin Evers, executive director of American Oversight, said in a statement......

Nunes' Ukraine connection 'vastly undercuts everything he said this past week': CNN contributor

Source: raw story

Published 1 min ago on November 23, 2019

A revelation from an associate of Rudy Giuliani — currently facing federal charges for campaign violations –that Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA) has also been involved in attempts to dig up dirt on former Vice President Joe Biden in Ukraine completely undercut his diatribes delivered during the impeachment hearings, claimed a CNN contributor on Saturday morning.

Appearing in “New Day” with host Victor Blackwell, Huffington Post correspondent Kevin Robillard said Nunes’ motives when attacking witnesses now must be considered suspect.

“Start with [Giuliani associate] Lev Parnas saying, we’re hearing from his attorney, the accusation that he actually helped set up these meetings between the ranking Republican on House Intel, Devin Nunes and Viktor Shokin, this former prosecutor general in Ukraine,” Blackwell began. “If true, a big asterisk. Frame the significance.”

“It puts a significant dent in the Republican defense used this entire week,” Robillard explained. “If Devin Nunes is standing there saying this is a conspiracy theory, they’re waving out all of these ridiculous theories to try to get Trump. But it turns out Nunes was himself involved in what Trump was doing and knew about it.”

How To Write A Bestseller: GOP Spends $95,000 Buying Donald Trump Jr. Book

How To Write A Bestseller: GOP Spends $95,000 Buying Donald Trump Jr. Book
Trump Jr. book boost is listed in latest campaign finance documents filed by the Republican National Committee.

“Triggered,” the book published early this month by Donald Trump Jr., rocketed to the top of The New York Times bestseller list. But it turned out it had a special boost: The Republican National Committee spent $95,000 buying up the books, according to a campaign finance listing spotted by The New York Times.

Records from the Federal Election Commission reveal a $94,800 payment to BooksAMillion.com for “donor mementos” just days before Trump Jr.’s book was released on Nov. 5. Trump Jr. then joined an RNC fundraising email offering signed copies of the book to anyone who contributed $50 or more to the GOP.

An RNC spokesman confirmed to the Times that the BooksAMillion payment was for copies of “Triggered.”..................................................

Trump lures GOP senators on impeachment with cold cash

President Donald Trump is rewarding senators who have his back on impeachment — and sending a message to those who don't to get on board.

Trump is tapping his vast fundraising network for a handful of loyal senators facing tough reelection bids in 2020. Each of them has signed onto a Republican-backed resolution condemning the inquiry as “unprecedented and undemocratic.”

Conspicuously absent from the group is Maine Sen. Susan Collins, a politically vulnerable Republican who’s refused to support the resolution and avoided taking a stance on impeachment. With his new push, Trump is exerting leverage over a group he badly needs in his corner with an impeachment trial likely coming soon to the Senate — but that also needs him.

Republican senators on the ballot next year are lagging in fundraising, stoking uncertainty about the GOP’s hold on the chamber, and could use the fundraising might of the president. Trump’s political operation has raked in over $300 million this year.

On Wednesday, the Trump reelection campaign sent a fundraising appeal to its massive email list urging donors to provide a contribution that would be divided between the president and Colorado Sen. Cory Gardner, Iowa Sen. Joni Ernst, and North Carolina Sen. Thom Tillis. Each of the senators are supporting the anti-impeachment resolution despite being endangered in 2020.

“If we don’t post strong fundraising numbers,” the message warned, “we won't be able to defend the President from this baseless Impeachment WITCH HUNT.” ...............................

Trump wonders on Fox and Friends How it was Amb. Sondland came to be working on Ukraine matters!!...

Trump Attacks Impeachment Inquiry and Accuses a Witness of Lying

https://www.nytimes.com/2019/11/22/us/politics/trump-impeachment-inquiry-interview.html

Mr. Trump said a career diplomat made up a conversation between him and his ambassador to the European Union, dismissing a critical detail in the Democrats’ impeachment inquiry.

By Eileen Sullivan Nov. 22, 2019, 9:16 a.m. ET

WASHINGTON — President Trump unleashed a series of falsehoods on Friday in an effort to invalidate the impeachment inquiry and counter sworn testimony from officials in his own administration, after a week of damaging public hearings.

In a 53-minute phone interview with “Fox & Friends,” Mr. Trump accused David Holmes, a political counselor to the American ambassador in Ukraine, of fabricating a phone call between Mr. Trump and the American ambassador to the European Union. Mr. Holmes told impeachment investigators that he had overheard the president ask the ambassador, Gordon D. Sondland, about Ukrainian investigations into his political rivals, a consequential detail in the Democrats’ impeachment inquiry.

“I guarantee you that never took place,” Mr. Trump said. He added that he barely knew Mr. Sondland, a wealthy hotelier from Oregon who contributed $1 million to Mr. Trump’s inaugural committee. In his own testimony, Mr. Sondland corroborated Mr. Holmes’s account.

The interview on Friday, broadcast live and commercial-free with a view of the “Fox & Friends” hosts speaking by phone to Mr. Trump, gave the president a chance to respond to the damaging revelations of the past week and reprise widely debunked theories and some of his favorite lines of attack.
.......................................

In the Fox interview, Mr. Trump hit on a theme that Democrats and witnesses have raised during the impeachment hearings — how was it that Mr. Sondland, with no foreign policy experience and who was not the ambassador to Ukraine, found himself leading the United States policy with Ukraine?

“But he was really the European Union ambassador, and all of a sudden he’s working on this,” Mr. Trump said on Friday. “Ask about that.”

Mr. Sondland told lawmakers that Mr. Trump directed him to do so.
