Hillary Clinton is once again the candidate most liked by Democrats. [Gallup]

Hillary Clinton is once again the candidate most liked by Democrats. [Gallup]

by Andrew Dugan and Frank Newport

Hillary Clinton has reclaimed her position as the best-liked presidential candidate among Democrats and independents who lean Democratic, a sign that her candidacy is recovering a key advantage she recently surrendered to rival Bernie Sanders. Clinton's net favorable score stands at +55 for the week of Feb. 18-24, 2016, a 10-percentage-point increase from her low point recorded over Jan. 27-Feb.10. This latter time period overlapped with her landslide loss to Sanders in the New Hampshire primary. Sanders' net favorable over the past week, by contrast, stands at +44, well below Clinton's score and a steep fall from the +57 he boasted in late January/early February.

Net Favorable Ratings of Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders Among Democrats/Leaners

These results come from Gallup Daily tracking of the images of main presidential candidates, which began in July 2015. The Feb. 18-24 results mark the first time that Gallup is reporting the data using one-week rather than two-week rolling averages.........................

WASHINGTON — Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton are positioned to solidify their status as presidential front-runners in Virginia when Republicans and Democrats cast ballots in the state's primary on Tuesday.

Clinton leads Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders in the Democratic nomination race by 20 points in the swing state. Among Republican presidential candidates, Trump is ahead of his nearest opponent, Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, by 13 points in the latest poll of almost 1,200 voters released Sunday by CBS News/YouGov.

Registered voters in Virginia may vote in either primary (but not both), meaning the state's Super Tuesday nominating contests could serve as a proxy for the November general election. Virginia has no official party registration. Polls are open from 6 a.m. 7 p.m. around the state, and a photo ID is required to cast a ballot.

.........................

Clinton and Sanders will battle for the largest share of 95 delegates.

Hillary Clinton Shifts Strategy to Focus on Donald Trump

Hillary Clinton Shifts Strategy to Focus on Donald Trump

By Liz Kreutz

PINE BLUFF, ARKANSAS — Feb 29, 2016, 8:28 AM ET

.......................Clinton’s top advisers are now strategizing how they would run against The Donald, even carefully studying the Republican debates. And now, ahead of Super Tuesday, Clinton has been giving some new attack lines a test run.
..........................

The swipe was one that Clinton first debuted at her South Carolina primary victory speech on Saturday night. It came along with renewed calls for “love and kindness” and for an end to rhetoric of “prejudice” and “paranoia.”

The gist of her message: that Trump is dividing people, and she wants to unite the country.

"We need to find a way to move away from the mean-spiritedness and the divisiveness in politics," Clinton said in Memphis on Sunday. "If we pull together, if we act like the United States of America, America's years can still be ahead of us."

...........................
Clinton’s renewed focus on Trump is a shift in her strategy from the past month, where she had been emphasizing her differences from her Democratic opponent, Bernie Sanders. Her new tone is both a sign she’s confident in her path to the nomination and that she acknowledges Trump would likely be her challenger. .....................

Congressional Hispanic Caucus PAC backs Clinton

By Gabriel Debenedetti

02/29/16 06:00 AM EST

The political arm of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus — CHC BOLD PAC — is set to endorse Hillary Clinton at a press conference at the Democratic National Committee’s headquarters on Monday morning, in yet another sign of the presidential front-runner’s strength in Washington and among Hispanic leaders.

The move is hardly a surprise considering that most of the caucus members are publicly backing Clinton, but it's still a useful endorsement as she looks to effectively seal the nomination against Bernie Sanders on Super Tuesday. Among the states voting on Tuesday is Texas, which has a large Hispanic population.

Clinton will not be in attendance at the press conference, as she will be campaigning ahead of Tuesday’s Democratic contests in 11 states.

The PAC is chaired by California Rep. Tony Cardenas, a Clinton backer, and the caucus is led by fellow California Rep. Linda Sanchez, another Clinton endorser.

Hillary Clinton is maintaining a massive lead over Bernie Sanders in a new Florida Democratic primary poll that shows she’s pulling strong support from African-American and Hispanic voters.

The strong minority support underpinning Clinton’s 54-24 percent lead over Bernie Sanders in the University of North Florida poll bears a resemblance to her outsized backing by black voters in South Carolina, where the former secretary of state beat the Vermont senator by taking an astonishingly high 74 percent of the vote.

Clinton’s support over Sanders with African-Americans was highest, 67-12 percent. Hispanics favored her over Sanders by 66-22 percent. Non-Hispanic white voters backed her 48-30 percent, according to the poll.

Clinton’s campaign Sunday was making a strong push in one of the largest African-American suburbs in South Florida, Miami Gardens, where former President Clinton held a rally with black officials and reminded the crowds that in-person early voting begins Monday in many counties, including heavily minority areas like Miami-Dade County. At least 250,000 Democrats have cast absentee ballots ahead of the March 15 primary.....................
