Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton on Tuesday called on La Crosse County voters to support her plan to rebuild the middle class through education, promoting a green energy economy and expanding access to health care...............

“We have to restore the potential of America’s dream for everybody,” she said. “I don’t want Americans giving up on themselves.”

................

The former secretary of state panned her Democratic rival Sen. Bernie Sander’s free tuition plan, which she said relies on cooperation from governors like Wisconsin’s Scott Walker.

“That seems like a big leap of faith to me,” Clinton said.

Clinton promised to create jobs rebuilding the country’s roads, bridges and water systems while also promoting renewable energy.

................

She vowed to expand Obamacare, and to protect access to abortion, marriage equality and voters’ rights, drawing cheers from the crowd with each................

Hillary is right about Sanders college plan--which relies on individual states. The problem--NO Red state --like WI Governor will ever implement his college plan--

It will be like the ACA--Walker has NOT expanded Medicare. The people in these states--WILL BE LEFT BEHIND with Sanders college plan--just like the people in these states are left behind in health care.

Hautala was an attendee in the audience:
>>>>>>>>>Hautala said she admires Clinton’s tenacity as well as her compassion and pragmatism.

“We can’t afford what Bernie’s proposing,” she said of Sanders.<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

Clinton spoke ....in an unfinished wing on the fourth floor of Western Technical College’s new Integrated Technologies Center, where she outlined her plan to provide debt-free college education for middle- and working-class families, which she said she would pay for by taxing “wealthy people, while also working to reduce existing college debt.

Bernie Sanders brought his "political revolution" to big rallies in Appleton and West Allis Tuesday, while Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton went to an inner-city Milwaukee church to confront the pain inflicted by gun violence.

..............................

................

Clinton rallied supporters in Green Bay and La Crosse. But her most emotional event occurred at Tabernacle Community Baptist Church in Milwaukee, where she led a forum about gun violence prevention. There, she called for tighter gun laws, enhanced police training and more support for young African-American men who are most at risk to become victims or perpetrators of violence.

"The epidemic of gun violence spares no one but it is concentrated in areas that are short on hope and where we still face the effects of systemic racism," Clinton said.

She joined the Rev. Don Darius Butler, U.S. Rep. Gwen Moore, Geneva Reed-Veal and Annette Nance-Holt at the historically black church. ......................

Hillary Clinton promised to continue to fight for tougher gun control on Tuesday during a campaign event that paid tribute to the victims of gun violence and police brutality.

.........“If you want my vote, you better work for it,” Nance-Holt said, after noting that Clinton had been the only Democratic candidate to reach out to her. She implored the audience to vote for the candidate who has prioritized gun violence and cautioned them against giving too much weight to the Vermont senator’s proposal to make college free for all students.
.........................

The “mothers of the movement”, women who have lost their children to gun violence and police brutality, have served as powerful surrogates for Clinton on the campaign trail. During the event, Reed-Veal reiterated that the mothers are not being “exploited” by Clinton and said they were freely backing her because she cared enough to reach out to them and listen to their stories.

Last Christmas, Clinton sent Reed-Veal a card, she recounted. “I know this is the first holiday without your baby,” she said the card read.

Clinton pledged that as president she would continue to wage the fight for better gun control, while acknowledging that stopping the epidemic of gun violence required fights on multiple fronts. She cited mental illness, the gun lobby and a shortage of opportunities as key obstacles.

“Let’s not grow weary doing good,” Clinton said, paraphrasing Galatians 6, “because in due time we will harvest if we stay focused.”

..............................
After blitzing the state over two days, Clinton is headed to New York Wednesday to open her campaign for the delegate-rich state's April 19 primary. New York appears to be a must-win for Clinton, the state's former U.S. senator. Wisconsin is widely viewed to be a Sanders-friendly state.

Sanders has events scheduled Wednesday in Kenosha, Madison and Onalaska before heading to New York for a planned rally Thursday.

Neither campaign has announced future events in Wisconsin and neither candidate has yet confirmed they'll attend Saturday night's Democratic Party dinner in Milwaukee.

Clinton pushes gun control at emotional meeting in Wisconsin

MILWAUKEE — Tears flowed freely and shouts — sometimes sobs — echoed through the sanctuary during an event with Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton on gun control at Tabernacle Community Baptist Church in Milwaukee on Tuesday.

"There is no type of pain that you can describe other than getting a phone call and you being hundreds of miles away and somebody saying to you, your child is no longer here,” said Geneva Reed-Veal, whose daughter Sandra Bland died in police custody after she was arrested during a routine traffic stop.

As Reed-Veal said the words, another woman sat in the back of the church and cried out “Noooo!”.........................

The harshest words for Sanders were delivered by Clinton surrogates Annette Nance-Holt, whose son Blair Holt was killed while riding a bus home from school, and Reed-Veal as they exhorted the audience to vote for Clinton.

“That other candidate on the Democratic side did not reach out to us,” Holt said, referring to Sanders. She added that while Sanders talks about free college tuition, “if my child is dead, he can’t go to college."..............

Clinton Lawyer Marc Elias Among Those Behind Major New Voting Rights Lawsuit in Wisconsin

http://electionlawblog.org/?p=72945

Posted on May 29, 2015 1:27 pm by Rick Hasen

Here is how the complaint for the lawsuit filed in federal court in Wisconsin begins:

This lawsuit concerns the most fundamental of rights guaranteed citizens in our representative democracy—the right to vote. That right has been under attack in Wisconsin since Republicans gained control of the governor’s office and both houses of the State Legislature in the 2010 election. Indeed, since 2011, the State of Wisconsin has twice reduced in-person absentee (“early”) voting, introduced restrictions on voter registration, changed its residency requirements, enacted a law that encourages invasive poll monitoring, eliminated straight-ticket voting, eliminated for most (but not all) citizens the option to obtain an absentee ballot by fax or email, and imposed a voter identification (“voter ID”) requirement. These measures were intended to burden, abridge, and deny, and have had and will have the effect of burdening, abridging, and denying, the voting rights of Wisconsinites generally and of African-American, Latino, young, and/or Democratic voters in Wisconsin in particular.

As set forth below, these and the other provisions challenged in this Complaint (the “challenged provisions”) violate Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act, 52 U.S.C. § 10301, and/or the First Amendment, the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment, the Fifteenth Amendment, and/or the Twenty-Sixth Amendment to the United States Constitution. The challenged provisions should therefore be declared illegal and enjoined.
