First on CNN: Border wall ask: $1 billion for 62 miles

Updated 5:31 PM ET, Mon March 27, 2017

Story highlights

The request would include only 48 miles of new wall
The documents also claim that Trump's executive orders are already upping arrests

Washington (CNN)The Trump administration wants the first $1 billion of border wall funding to cover 62 miles -- including replacing some existing fencing along the southern border.

The $999 million requested by the White House in its budget supplement for just defense and border security spending would cover just 48 miles of new wall, according to justification documents from the Department of Homeland Security obtained by CNN.

The documents describe exactly where the administration hopes to put its first installment of the border wall, as it described its modest 2017 funding ask.

The money will fund 14 miles of new border wall in San Diego, 28 miles of new levee wall barriers and six miles of new border wall in the Rio Grande Valley region and 14 miles of replacement fencing in San Diego. The fencing would likely include concrete elements, a source familiar with the plans told CNN. ........................

Criminal Complaint Filed Against Attorney General Jeff Sessions For Obstruction Of Justice

By Jason Easley on Mon, Mar 27th, 2017 at 2:14 pm

A criminal complaint has been filed against Trump Attorney General Jeff Sessions accusing him of perjury and obstruction of justice.

The criminal complaint which was filed with the Inspector General’s Office and the Office of Professional Responsibility states, “The criminal conduct described in this complaint relates to testimony and false statements about communications between Sessions and the Russian ambassador that were made by Sessions to the Senate Judiciary Committee. It also concerns Sessions’ acts of concealing his crimes, covering up his crimes, impeding the investigation his crimes, interfering with the prosecution of his crimes, conspiring to commit crimes and otherwise interfering with or impeding the proper administration of the Department of Justice.”

The complainants are 23 residents of Maine, Massachusetts, Oregon, California, and Vermont. The complainants are demanding a Special Counsel to investigate Sessions and the Russia scandal, numerous federal investigations, and an indictment of Sessions for violations of federal law.

The attorney for the complainants, attorney J. Whitfield Larrabee, said in a statement provided to PoliticusUSA, “Attorney General Sessions is putting his own personal interest above the interest of the people of the United States by failing to resign. Because there are grounds not only to investigate but also to charge Sessions with several crimes, the integrity of the Department of Justice will be destroyed so long as Sessions remains in office. Prosecutors at the Department of Justice cannot properly investigate this matter while Sessions remains in office because of a natural reluctance to aggressively probe and .....................

'Just Getting Started': With Battles Ahead, Resist Forces See No Time for Gloating

Spectacular failure of Republicans to pass Trumpcare is time to 'double-down' on resistance, not gloat

Hundreds of people rallied at Federal Plaza in Chicago on March 23, 2017, to signal disapproval of Republican-led efforts to repeal and replace President Barack Obama’s signature legislation, the Affordable Care Act. (Photo: Terrence Antonio James / Chicago Tribune)

While President Donald Trump on Saturday used a single tweet to tell the American people both "Do not worry!" and "Obamacare will explode," the Trump resistance movement was being urged not to gloat over Friday's "epic failure" of the Republicans' attempt to pass their 'slash and burn' healthcare law but instead focus on organizing for the crucial battles ahead.

Acknowledging their defeat on healthcare (while fecklessly trying to blame Democrats), Trump and his team on Friday said they would now place their focus on passing a controversial budget package and moving ahead with a major tax reform plan. And with the confirmation of Supreme Court nominee Neil Gorsuch still unattained, the president's opponents—both in Congress and in the streets—were balancing their elation over Friday's healthcare outcome with acknowledgement that much hard work remains.

"We're just getting started, folks." —Indivisible Guide

While Rep. Keith Ellison (D-Minn.), deputy chair of the Democratic National Committee, told progressives, "Don't gloat; get ready for round 2. Organize!" on Twitter, supporters of Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) were told, "We must be clear. This important victory against the Republican health care plan is not the end of our work. It is the beginning.

Fox News mocked for 'alert' that Trump spent weekend working at White House

Fox News mocked for 'alert' that Trump spent weekend working at White House

By Paulina Firozi - 03/26/17 06:56 PM EDT

A Fox News tweet got a lot of attention Sunday afternoon, after the network declared that President Trump had spent the weekend working from the White House.

............................

Many pointed out that Trump had traveled twice to the Trump National Golf Club in Virginia over the weekend. He was at the Virginia golf club on Saturday for meetings, and then again on Sunday for about an hour, during which he conducted three short meetings, according to pool reports.

Trump headed back to the White House after his Saturday meetings, and later had dinner at Trump International Hotel near the White House, according to pool reports.

Sunday's trip marked the president's 13th visit to a golf course since taking office, though pool reports do not indicate he played this weekend.

I thought it was a well written article
I did not watch the past Comey hearing (last monday) LIVE, but was astounded to later find out the foolish Trump had tweeted during the hearing with outright LIES.

It’s difficult to describe the feeling of seeing the president of the United States lie, in the moment, about ongoing events and testimony. To watch the White House declare that you should believe it over your lying eyes, even as you witness reality unfold in real time.

It’s not the usual spin or political dishonesty; it feels transgressive, like some critical line has been crossed, and a new world entered where Donald Trump and his allies contest the nature of truth itself, with the presidency as their platform for action.

That’s exactly what happened, on Monday, during a hearing of the House Intelligence Committee. Testifying on alleged Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election, FBI Director James Comey confirmed the existence of an investigation into that interference and the Trump campaign itself.

“I have been authorized by the Department of Justice,” Comey said, “to confirm that the FBI, as part of our counterintelligence mission, is investigating the Russian government’s efforts to interfere in the 2016 presidential election, and that includes investigating the nature of any links between individuals associated with the Trump campaign and the Russian government and whether there was any coordination between the campaign and Russia’s efforts.”

Comey also affirmed the view that Russia favored Trump with this interference. “I think that was a fairly easy judgment for the community,” he said. “Putin hated Secretary Clinton so much that the flip side of that coin was he had a clear preference for the person running against the person he hated so much.” ...........................

Intelligence committee members disagree on dust-up involving Devin Nunes

WASHINGTON -- The top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee believes that the chairman of the committee, Rep. Devin Nunes, R-Calif., is in danger of being perceived as a partisan surrogate of the Trump White House.

Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif.,, said on CBS’ “Face the Nation,” “I think the chairman has to make a decision, whether to act as a surrogate of the White House, as he did during the campaign and the transition, or to lead a independent and credible investigation. I hope he chooses the latter.”

Nunes and Schiff have been openly fighting since last week, after Nunes told reporters and the White House Wednesday that President Trump’s personal communications might have been picked up by the intelligence community through “incidental collection.” He made the remarks before he had briefed his colleagues on the committee, Republicans and Democrats alike.

Gowdy defends Nunes' briefing of Trump on communications collection

It’s still the case that none of the members of the committee have been briefed on what Nunes was talking about last week, Schiff said -- “we’re all quite in the dark on this,” he told “Face the Nation” host John Dickerson.

Rep. Trey Gowdy, R-S.C., who also sits on the Intelligence Committee, confirmed that he has also not been briefed on the information that Nunes has. He, however, holds a different view of the chairman’s information-sharing with the president.

“The chairman of House Intel briefed the commander-in-chief on something that has nothing to do with the Russia investigation,” Gowdy said on “Face the Nation.” “So if the commander-in-chief cannot be briefed by the chairperson of the House Intel Committee on a matter that has nothing to do with the F.B.I. investigation, then I don’t know what they can talk about, John.”
