I doubt trump means this--unless it benefits him and his re=election. A big Infrastructure bill would fulfill a promise trump made on the campaign trail if I recall correctly.

Trump Caves And Drops Demand For Investigations To End In Meeting With Pelosi and Schumer

Trump dropped his demand that all investigations must end before he will work with Democrats during his meeting Speaker Pelosi and Leader Schumer.

Senate Democratic Leader Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) said that Trump’s demand that all investigations be dropped before he will work with Democrats never came up in their meeting.

Schumer said, “In previous meetings, the president said if the investigations continue, I can’t work with you. He didn’t bring it up. We’re going, I believe, we can do both at once. We can come up with some good ideas on infrastructure and we want to hear his ideas on funding that’s going to be the crucial point in my opinion, and the House and the Senate can proceed in its oversight responsibilities. We believe the two are not mutually exclusive.”

Trump caved to Pelosi and Schumer

After the government shutdown disaster, Trump’s attitude has changed on working with the Democrats. Trump has virtually no policy accomplishments outside of a tax cut for the rich that is so reviled that Republicans can’t run on it in 2020. Trump needs something to run on it. He hasn’t seen the light on bipartisan cooperation and the odds are that he will self-destruct and blow up any infrastructure deal as soon as he gets a hint of criticism from the right, but the big takeaway here is that Trump vowed not to work with Democrats while he is under investigation, and he caved. .............................

At Trump golf course, undocumented employees said they were sometimes told to work extra hours without pay

“It was that way with all the managers: Many of them told us, ‘Just clock out and then stay and do the side work,’ ” Jose Gabriel Juarez, a former head waiter of the Grille Room at the Trump National Golf Club Westchester, said of the overtime he worked without pay. (Joshua Partlow/The Washington Post)

April 30 at 4:13 PM

HILLSDALE, N.Y. — His bosses at the Trump country club called it “side work.”

On some nights, after the club’s Grille Room closed, head waiter Jose Gabriel Juarez — an undocumented immigrant from Mexico — was told to clock out. He pressed his index finger onto a scanner and typed his personal code, 436.

But he didn’t go home.

Instead — on orders from his bosses, Juarez said — he would stay on, sometimes past midnight. He vacuumed carpets, polished silverware and helped get the restaurant at Trump National Golf Club Westchester in Briarcliff Manor, N.Y., ready for breakfast the next day.

All off the clock. Without being paid.

Poll: Climate change is top issue for registered Democrats

Source: the hill

By Miranda Green - 04/30/19 11:32 AM EDT

Climate change action is the top issue for Democratic voters, according to a new national poll out Tuesday.

The CNN poll found that 82 percent of registered voters who identified as Democrats or Democratic-leaning independents listed climate change as the top priority they’d like to see get the focus of a presidential candidate.

The issue was trailed by universal government-provided health care, 75 percent, and executive action on stricter gun control measures, 65 percent. Impeaching President Trump ranked fifth on the list of priorities for Democratic voters, at 43 percent.

The poll is the first national survey to show climate change rising to the top of the ranks among issues Democrats plan to focus on in the 2020 election.
..........................................

Only 14 percent of Republican voters in the same poll listed climate change as a major threat.

Biden: If Trump blocks investigations, Congress has no choice but to impeach him

Source: the hill

By John Bowden - 04/30/19 09:13 AM EDT

Former Vice President Joe Biden said Tuesday that Congress should move forward with impeachment proceedings if the White House and Republicans work to block Democratic efforts to investigate matters "left undone" by special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation.

In an interview with ABC's "Good Morning America," the 2020 presidential candidate said that Democrats would have "no alternative" but to impeach President Trump if he were to block a congressional investigation into whether he obstructed justice by firing former FBI Director James Comey and attempting to fire Mueller.

"There are elements of the report ... about seven or eight things that are left undone, he was not within his purview to investigate, he thought," Biden said of Mueller. "The Congress is attempting to take that up."

"If in fact they block the investigation, they have no alternative but to go to the only other constitutional resort they have, [which] is impeachment," he added. "But my job, in the meantime, is to make sure he's not back as president of the United States.".......................................

WASHINGTON, DC - APRIL 29: U.S. President Donald Trump hosts the Baylor women’s NCAA championship basketball team in the Oval Office at the White House April 29, 2019 in Washington, DC. Although the NCAA champion University of Virginia men's basketball team is skipping a visit to the White House, the Baylor players visited the Oval Office three weeks after winning its third national title with an 82-81 victory over Notre Dame. On Monday afternoon in Washington, D.C., history took place. For the first time in his 27 months in office, President Donald Trump held a private ceremony for a championship-winning women’s sports team at the White House.

.........................................................

First, in the continuation of a tradition that he started during the government shutdown with the Clemson football team, he served Baylor a smorgasbord of Chick-fil-A sandwiches, french fries, Big Macs, and pizza. “The lunch was good? You can’t do better than that,” he remarked to the players when they were crowded into the Oval Office for the photo op.

Then, when head coach Kim Mulkey presented him with the customary Baylor jersey with “Trump” on the back, Trump uttered the phrase: “I love the short sleeves, such beautiful arms. Great definition.”

Finally, when he was presented with a Baylor national championship hat, Trump joked about his hair being real: “Can I put it on? It will mess up my hair, but that’s okay. It is mine.”

Workers barely benefited from Trump's sweeping tax cut, investigation shows

Big companies drove the 2017 Tax and Jobs Act, but did not commit to any specific wage hikes, the Center for Public Integrity found

Big companies drove Donald Trump’s tax cut law but refused to commit to any specific wage hikes for workers, despite repeated White House promises it would help employees, an investigation shows.

The 2017 Tax and Jobs Act – the Trump administration’s one major piece of enacted legislation – did deliver the biggest corporate tax cut in US history, but ultimately workers benefited almost not at all.

This is one of the conclusions of a six-month investigation into the process that led to the tax cut by the Center for Public Integrity, a not-for-profit news agency based in Washington DC.

The full findings, based on interviews with three dozen key players and independent tax experts, and analysis of hundreds of pages of government documents, are published today in an in-depth piece.

‘Just 6% spent on workers’

The tax hike was sold to citizens as a move that would boost the economy, add jobs and hike wages. The president said in one speech that it would bring the average American household “around a $4,000 pay raise”.....................................

The alleged killer at a Southern California synagogue this weekend worked alone, according to law enforcement, but behind him is a sprawling, digital network of white supremacists spurring each other on to murder.

Moments before allegedly opening fire at worshippers in Chabad of Poway on Saturday, white supremacist John Earnest previewed his plans on 8chan, just as his supposed inspiration did. Last month, a white supremacist in Christchurch, New Zealand used 8chan to share a link to a livestream of him killing 50 Muslims at a mosque. In between the attacks, the anonymous forum with a large fascist presence called for people to carry out more shootings. The calls for violence also spread across fringe platforms like Gab, and messaging apps like Telegram. It’s reminiscent of calls online for followers of ISIS and al Qaeda to strike out at the enemy, counter-terrorism experts said.

After the New Zealand shooting, 8chan users decorated the alleged killer as a “saint” and encouraged each other to commit shootings of their own, including against synagogues, to prepare for the “third world war” against Jews, or to kill a journalist critical of the forum.

“As a lot of people have noted over the past few days, 8chan is an awful cesspool of encouraging violence and hatred,” said Sam Jackson, an assistant professor focusing on online extremism at the University of Albany. “That hate and encouragement of violence might be a sort of baseline, background noise, but periodically someone moves from participating in this online awfulness to committing offline actions.”

.................
.............

The first response to his 8chan post urged him to “get the high score,” investigative outlet Bellingcat noted. (When only one person, 60-year-old Lori Gilbert Kaye, was murdered, some 8chan users lamented the attack’s “low score.”)........................................................

US veteran arrested over terror plot

Source: BBC

A US army veteran has been arrested after allegedly plotting to "commit mass murder" in California.

Mark Steven Domingo "faces federal charges in a terrorist plot in which he planned to detonate an improvised explosive device (IED)", according to a US Department of Justice release.

He was arrested on Friday after accepting what he believed to be a live bomb, delivered by undercover officers.

The 26-year-old allegedly planned to detonate it at a rally in Long Beach.
.........................................

"This investigation successfully disrupted a very real threat posed by a trained combat soldier who repeatedly stated he wanted to cause the maximum number of casualties," said federal prosecutor Nick Hanna in a statement.

In online posts and in conversations with an FBI source - posing as a likeminded accomplice - Mr Domingo expressed a desire to seek retribution for the March attacks on two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand, and other attacks against Muslims. Mr Domingo allegedly communicated his willingness to be a martyr as part of his attack. ..................................
