"The power to declassify is also the power to selectively declassify [and mislead the public]."

There is no way we can trust Barr after we have witnessed what he did with the #MuellerReport. No way!!

Maine lobster industry drowning in US-China trade war

WASHINGTON, DC - MAY 22 : President Donald J. Trump walks out to speak after abruptly ending a meeting with Democratic leaders on infrastructure, saying there wont be a deal unless they stop investigations, in the Rose Garden at the White House on Wednesday, May 22, 2019 in Washington, DC. (CNN)Just as Mexico was supposed to pay for the wall, but isn't, now China is supposed to pay for President Donald Trump's plan to bail out US farmers.
Neither statement is true, of course, as has been pointed out repeatedly.
Trump does not talk about Mexico paying for the wall much anymore. He's too busy saying the wall is getting built, when it's actually just renovation of existing fence.

Fact-checking (yet again) Donald Trump on China tariffs
But he is just getting started on the claim that China is paying to prop up American farmers hurt by the trade war. Having already approved a $12 billion bailout in 2018, the President on Thursday announced another, larger, $16 billion bailout as talks with China have stalled.

It was Chinese retaliation against US farmers -- a countermeasure to the trade war Trump kicked off with US tariffs on Chinese goods -- that led to farmers needing bailouts in the first place. That hasn't stopped the President from crowing that China would foot the bill for damage to US farmers.

Back on May 14, he tweeted: "Our great Patriot Farmers will be one of the biggest beneficiaries of what is happening now. Hopefully China will do us the honor of continuing to buy our great farm product, the best, but if not your Country will be making up the difference based on a very high China buy... This money will come from the massive Tariffs being paid to the United States for allowing China, and others, to do business with us. The Farmers have been 'forgotten' for many years. Their time is now!"

Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue repeated that claim Thursday on Fox Business News, arguing that Trump would not let China outlast him in trade talks and, of farmer aid, "China's gonna pay for these."
Here's what we know about who really pays the farmers.

Where does the bailout money for farmers actually come from?..................................

Rising sea levels could swamp major cities and displace almost 200 million people, scientists say
With a “business as usual” approach to carbon emissions, the world's oceans could plausibly rise two meters by the end of the century.

May 22, 2019, 12:00 PM CDT

By Jaclyn Jeffrey-Wilensky and David Freeman

The risk posed by rising seas may be even more dire than we thought.

A provocative new study suggests that as Earth’s climate continues to warm and the planet’s ice sheets continue to melt, seas could inundate coastal cities around the world, submerging vast swaths of land and displacing almost 200 million people by the end of the century.

If we continue to take a “business as usual” approach to carbon emissions, sea level rise could plausibly exceed two meters (about seven and a half feet) by 2100, the study showed. A rise of that magnitude — which is more than twice as high as the upper limit predicted in a 2013 U.N. climate assessment — would have “profound consequences for humanity,” the scientists behind the new research concluded.

New York, New Orleans, Miami, Shanghai, Mumbai and some island nations could become permanently flooded, according to that scenario, disrupting economies and displacing up to 187 million people. Almost 1.8 million square kilometers (about 700,000 square miles) of land, including some used for farming, could be permanently flooded.

“It really is pretty grim,” study co-author Jonathan Bamber, a professor of physical geography at the University of Bristol in England, told CNN. “Two meters is not a good scenario.”

That “grim” scenario is just one of several possibilities. But “the oceans are rising fast and will rise faster than we thought a few years ago,” said study co-author Robert Kopp, director of the Institute of Earth, Ocean and Atmospheric Sciences at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey. “And there is significant risk of much faster sea level rise if we don’t cut our emissions.”................

So basically she asked Pelosi to make some criticism she could then use to slam Democrats, then when she declined played the feminist card which she has no claim on.

The House speaker sent a letter to her congressional colleagues Wednesday night to comment on the president’s Rose Garden meltdown.

By Rebecca Shapiro

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D) sent a letter to her Congressional colleagues Wednesday night saying President Donald Trump “had a temper tantrum” earlier in the day after he walked out of infrastructure talks with party leaders and held an impromptu press conference in the White House Rose Garden.

“Sadly, the only job the president seems to be concerned with is his own,” Pelosi wrote. “He threatened to stop working with Democrats on all legislation unless we end oversight of his administration and he had a temper tantrum for us all to see.”

During the press conference, Trump stood before a sign reading “no collusion, no obstruction” as he told reporters he was “the most transparent president in history” and called on Democrats to “get these phony investigations over with.”

NEW YORK —A federal judge on Wednesday rejected a request by President Trump to block congressional subpoenas for his banking records, dealing the latest blow to the president in his bid to battle Democratic investigations into his personal finances.

The decision in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York could clear the way for Deutsche Bank and Capital One to hand over the president’s financial records to Democrats in the House. Trump’s attorneys could appeal the decision.

Attorneys for Trump, his family and the Trump Organization filed for a preliminary injunction earlier this month as part of a lawsuit seeking to block the two institutions from handing over documents to the House Financial Services and Intelligence committees.

“There will be no way to unring the bell once the Banks give Congress the requested information,” William S. Consovoy, Patrick Strawbridge and Marc Mukasey wrote. “The Committees will have reviewed confidential documents that this Court may later determine were illegally subpoenaed.”

But U.S. District Judge Edgardo Ramos said Wednesday that Trump’s lawsuit was unlikely to succeed. .........................

Trump Stages Rose Garden Meltdown After Blowing Up A Meeting with Pelosi and Schumer ...Updated

Source: DailyKos

Wednesday May 22, 2019 · 11:05 AM CDT

WASHINGTON — President Trump abruptly blew up a scheduled meeting with Democratic congressional leaders on Wednesday, lashing out at Speaker Nancy Pelosi for accusing him of a cover-up and declaring that he could not work with them until they stopped investigating him.

He then marched out into the Rose Garden, where reporters had been gathered, and delivered a statement bristling with anger as he demanded that Democrats “get these phony investigations over with.” He said they could not legislate and investigate at the same time. “We’re going to go down one track at a time,” he said.

...“Speaker Pelosi said something terrible today and accused me of a cover-up,”

.............................

UPDATE: Clear evidence that this was a staged spectacle:

Look at the podium. They already had a sign printed up with “NO Collusion, NO Obstruction”. The numbers are about the cost of the investigations: Mueller investigation by the numbers: $35+ million spent; 2,800+ subpoenas; 675 days; 500+ witnesses; 18 Angry Democrats.

Trump's Hostile Takeover of 'Very Liberal' Ninth Circuit Is Almost Accomplished

Damn. we are in trouble.

Trump’s Hostile Takeover of ‘Very Liberal’ Ninth Circuit Is Almost Accomplished

https://www.thedailybeast.com/trumps-hostile-takeover-of-very-liberal-ninth-circuit-is-almost-accomplished

The president who thinks judges play for a political team wants as many as possible on his team, along with the Senate Republicans racing to give them lifetime appointments.

Eleanor Clift

Young, mostly male, and overwhelmingly white judges appointed by President Trump are on the cusp of remaking the once reliably liberal Ninth Circuit of the Court of Appeals, the nation’s highest court below the Supreme Court.

The “very, very liberal circuit,” as then Attorney General Jeff Sessions once put it, covers the American West, including California as well as Alaska and Hawaii. Trump himself has called it “totally out of control,” a “big thorn in our side,” a “complete and total disaster,” and a “disgrace.” At one point, he said, “It would be great if the 9th Circuit was indeed an ‘independent judiciary’”—his scary scare quotes.

Now the Senate has been racing to give lifetime seats on its bench to Trump judges whose pro-business jurisprudence and regressive social views are out of step with much of the country, including Democrats and younger Americans.
