Twitter hides Trump tweet for 'glorifying violence'

Source: BBC

Twitter has hidden one of President Donald Trump's tweets from his profile, saying it violates rules about glorifying violence.

But instead of being deleted, it has been replaced with a warning and can be viewed by clicking on it.

The warning says "Twitter has determined that it may be in the public's interest for the Tweet to remain accessible."

It is the latest in an escalating row between Twitter and the White House.

Mr Trump was tweeting about the US city of Minneapolis, which has seen consecutive nights of protests following the death of a black man in police custody.............................

Downtown Columbus vandalized, police use pepper spray to disperse protesters

Source: WBNS-10TV

Published: 05/28/20 08:50 pm EDT Updated: 27 minutes ago

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Chaos erupted in downtown Columbus Thursday night and it spilled over into the early morning hours of Friday.

Hundreds of protesters who gathered in solidarity to show support after the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis a few days ago brought handmade signs and bullhorns to the area of N. High St. and Broad St.

..........................

Around 9 p.m. after some protesters began to throw bottles, police warned the crowd multiple times before dispersing pepper spray into the crowd.

................................

Police were able to push back protesters from Broad Street and N. High St. to the intersection of N. High St. and State St. where protesters began to break the windows of local businesses, bus stops and even the windows and front doors of the Ohio Statehouse.
...........................

..................
Dozens of police officers were involved in this incident including those on the bicycle unit, the mounted unit and SWAT. Officers, wearing their riot gear, began using several crowd control techniques, including flash-bang grenades and pepper spray.

As of early Friday morning, Columbus police had arrested multiple protesters.

Columbus Police Sgt. James Fuqua said the resources that were used to deal with the protest downtown kept officers from responding to other critical incidents including 177 high priority calls for service.

Fuqua said there were peaceful protests on the south side of the city and on Long St.......................................

Trump calls Minneapolis protesters 'thugs' -- and threatens military action

Source: raw story

Published 1 min ago on May 29, 2020

President Donald Trump blasted protesters in Minnesota outraged over the killing of George Floyd.

“ I can’t stand back & watch this happen to a great American City, Minneapolis,” Trump tweeted after midnight.

“A total lack of leadership. Either the very weak Radical Left Mayor, Jacob Frey, get his act together and bring the City under control, or I will send in the National Guard & get the job done right,” he wrote, even though the National Guard was already deployed. ...................................

Hennepin County Attorney: Officers involved in George Floyd's death not cooperating with investigation
Updated 2 hours ago

.....................

There will be two investigations. At the state level, Hennepin County Mike Freeman will explore murder charges for the death of Floyd. At the federal level, U.S. Attorney Erica MacDonald will explore if any hate crimes occurred.............................

.............................
Federal investigation

Thursday, MacDonald announced her office would be conducting a “robust and meticulous investigation” into the incident. She added that President Donald Trump and Attorney General William Barr are both actively monitoring the case, too.

MacDonald noted that, at the federal level, the prosecutors will focus on hate crimes. That means MacDonald’s office must prove “the subject took action or did not take action when he or she knew it was wrong and chose to do it anyway.”

MacDonald, along with FBI Special Agent in Charge Rainer Drolshagen, will be conducting the federal investigation. Parallel to that will be Freeman’s murder investigation.

There is no love lost with Erica McDonald. I watched her today at the news conference.
I wondered why she was praising Trump and Barr involvement. It turned my off to say the least.

takeaway from US Attorney Erica McDonald’s press conference:

A - Her heart, oh her heart, her heart is broken.

B - She won’t be conducting an independent investigation, since Bill Barr & @realDonaldTrump
will be closely monitoring her progress.

C - Riots

I see Ms. Erica McDonald, US Attorney is on Fox speaking about the Floyd case. In the process of trying to appear solemn, she makes a joke about the wind. Good gawd, a person was murdered. Where’s the humor ma’am. Please help me out cause I just don’t see it. Do your damn job.

US Attorney Erica McDonald said Trump and Barr are saddened by what happened by this murder of Mr. Floyd? Like they care? About anyone but themselves? The cop that was kneeling on his neck should already be in jail. Politics should have no bearing on that!

Inspector general fired over leaks had been cleared of wrongdoing before ouster: report

Source: the hill

By Ellen Mitchell - 05/28/20 07:38 PM EDT

The State Department inspector general fired by President Trump over alleged leaks to the media had been cleared of any wrongdoing earlier this year, long before his dismissal, CNN reported Thursday.

An investigation by the Pentagon's Office of Inspector General found no evidence that Steve Linick or anyone from his office shared information with the media about an inquiry into the State Department that Linick’s office was working on, two unnamed sources told the outlet.

The Defense Department's inspector general reportedly shared the findings of its report verbally with the State Department. Linick shared the results with State Department in March, roughly two months before he was fired, according to CNN.

Linick reportedly requested the independent Pentagon investigation after Secretary of State Mike Pompeo demanded a probe into State Department leaks.......................

Sen. Tim Kaine, Wife Anne Holton, Recently Tested Positive for Antibodies to COVID-19

Sen. Tim Kaine, Wife Anne Holton, Recently Tested Positive for Antibodies to COVID-19

https://bluevirginia.us/2020/05/sen-tim-kaine-wife-anne-holton-recently-tested-positive-for-antibodies-to-covid-19

"By mid-April we were symptom free."

Good to know that both Sen. Tim Kaine and his wife, Anne Holton, are doing better! The key line: “we will keep following CDC guidelines—hand-washing, mask wearing, social distancing. We encourage others to do so as well. It shows those around you that you care about them.”
Kaine Statement On Coronavirus Antibody Test Results

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Tim Kaine released the following statement:

“My wife Anne and I recently tested positive for antibodies to coronavirus.

“I tested positive for the flu earlier this year and was given standard medication to treat it. The symptoms lingered and I continued to receive treatment from my physician for the flu through mid-March. At the end of March, I experienced new symptoms that I initially thought were flu remnants and a reaction to an unusually high spring pollen count. Then Anne experienced a short bout of fever and chills, followed by congestion and eventually a cough.

“After Anne got sick, we each talked to our health providers in early April and they thought it possible that we had mild cases of coronavirus. We were both at home in Richmond, working remotely and isolated from others. Due to the national testing shortage, we were not tested for the virus but continued isolating and watched for any worsening of symptoms. By mid-April we were symptom free.

“We each tested positive for coronavirus antibodies this month. While those antibodies could make us less likely to be re-infected or infect others, there is still too much uncertainty over what protection antibodies may actually provide. So we will keep following CDC guidelines—hand-washing, mask wearing, social distancing. We encourage others to do so as well. It shows those around you that you care about them.”......................

New Zealand epidemiologist: 'We look at Trump's behavior and we're horrified'

New Zealand epidemiologist: ‘We look at Trump’s behavior and we’re horrified’

Published 8 hours ago on May 28, 2020

To learn how New Zealand has largely eliminated COVID-19, we continue our extended interview with Michael Baker, an epidemiologist who is a member of the New Zealand Ministry of Health’s Technical Advisory Group and advising the government on its response to the COVID-19 pandemic. He describes how the country’s response compares to the government actions in the United States and worldwide.
......................

We continue with our interview with Michael Baker, professor of public health at the University of Otago in Wellington, New Zealand, epidemiologist, member of the New Zealand Ministry of Health’s Technical Advisory Group. He’s been advising the government on its response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Prime Minister Jacinda Arden’s slogan is “Stay home, stay safe, and be kind.” Juan, why don’t you start with the first question?

JUAN GONZÁLEZ: Dr. Baker, I wanted to ask you — in our earlier segment, we were talking about the failures of the United States government in being able to adequately deal with confronting the coronavirus, but I wanted to ask you about other parts of the world, specifically the British Commonwealth, of which New Zealand is a part. Your sense about how the U.K. has dealt with coronavirus, and the failings that you might see from afar on the other side of the world?

MICHAEL BAKER: Yeah. One of the things is what framework countries use to look at this hazard, how they managed it. And the world is really split into — you could see now three major blocs.

There are countries which really took their cue from Asia and are now pursuing a containment-elimination approach. And that includes now Australia and New Zealand.

Then there are countries, the high-income countries of Europe and North America, which basically didn’t assess this as something they were going to contain, and they initially went for a kind of mitigation approach, like the influenza model, and quickly, quickly realized that, actually, it was a more severe threat than seasonal influenza, and then have generally taken a suppression approach after that of dampening down transmission. But that means they’re stuck, really, in this long-term process of going in and out of lockdown, trying to keep transmission down and minimize fatalities........................................

.........MICHAEL BAKER: Yeah. Well, certainly, we all look at Trump’s behavior and are quite horrified at that, because how can you lead a country by example by refusing to — or exempting yourself from the standards that you are or should be advocating for people in the U.S., and, I guess, even globally, because, of course, I think the world has always looked to the U.S. for a great deal of leadership?.................

New poll shows Sara Gideon leading Susan Collins by 9 points

Source: Bangor Daily news

Updated: May 28, 2020 9:44 am

Ethan: Did you take a look at the new poll on the U.S. Senate race I just sent? It shows U.S. Sen. Susan Collins losing 51 percent to 42 percent to House Speaker Sara Gideon!

Phil: A-yuh. Sobering news for Susan. However, I caution you, my excitable friend, that this is merely a momentary snapshot six months before Election Day................

Phil: While no one should ever underestimate Susan Collins, the trend in the last few public polls is certainly in the wrong direction for those of us who want to see her re-elected. In March we saw a poll that showed her down 4 points. Two months later, she is now down 9.

Ethan: If I were on Team Collins what I would find most concerning is that Gideon is winning by 20+ points among women and seven points among independents, usually her backstop...........................................
