'We have a predator living in the White House': Harris sharpens attacks on Trump

Kamala Harris on Wednesday debuted a new line of attack against President Donald Trump, saying that her background as a prosecutor made her uniquely suited to take on “a predator” like the president.

At an Iowa event, during a riff on Trump’s trade and health care policies and his handling of the surge of migrants arriving at the U.S.-Mexico border, the 2020 Democratic presidential hopeful ripped the president for betraying the American people.

“I’m prepared to prosecute the case. And I’m going to tell you in terms of my background,” the California senator said, rattling off a list of groups she prosecuted in her more than two decades in law enforcement in California.

“I know predators, and we have a predator living in the White House,” she continued, earning raucous applause from the crowd. “And let me tell you, there’s a little secret about predators. Donald Trump has predatory nature and predatory instincts.”

The sharper rhetoric comes as Harris seeks to capitalize on a surge in polling since her commanding performance during last week’s Democratic debates. In particular, Harris dominated former Vice President Joe Biden in a bruising exchange over Biden’s civil rights record.

Harris performed well enough to catch Trump’s eye as he attended the G-20 summit in Osaka, Japan, where he downplayed her performance. Harris’ strong showing also caught the ire of conservatives who sought to cast doubt on whether Harris is “black enough” to speak with authority on matters of race, prompting her Democratic rivals to race to her defense. ......................

Trump & RNC r scrambling to ensure July4th turnout to avoid crowd size controversy!

So many agencies and Republicans could have put a stop to this spectacle.

'They started this too late': Trump officials and allies anxious about July 4 fest

Trump and RNC aides are scrambling to ensure turnout at the event and avoid another controversy about crowd size.

The White House and Republican National Committee have spent the last week scrambling to distribute VIP tickets to President Donald Trump’s Fourth of July speech at the Lincoln Memorial.

Now, White House officials and allies are wringing their hands over the risk of the hastily arranged event morphing into Trump’s Inauguration 2.0, in which the size of the crowd and the ensuing media coverage do not meet the president’s own outsized expectations for the event.

“They started this too late and everyone has plans already,” said Dan Eberhart, a Republican donor and chief executive officer of the drilling services company Canary, LLC. “Everyone will be there in spirit, but in reality, people planned their July 4th activities weeks ago.”

Less than 36 hours before the event, White House aides were crafting Trump’s speech while administration and Republican National Committee officials finalized the guest lists.

A White House official declined to explain the system for handing out tickets or the various tiers of VIP access, except to say the reserved seating area – extending from the steps of the memorial to the middle the reflecting pool — will feature veterans, Trump family and friends and special guests. The First Lady, vice president and second lady, and a number of Cabinet officials are expected to attend as well as several senior White House officials — though the aide stressed this, too, was still coming together.

“They are creating this thing from scratch, and I do not know if anyone knows how it will go off,” said another White House aide. “There are questions about the ticket distribution and who will show up. The weather might be bad. Heads are spinning.”.................................

MSNBC not planning to air Trump's July Fourth celebration live

President Donald Trump’s controversial takeover of the Fourth of July celebration at the National Mall won’t completely take over the cable airwaves.

MSNBC, for one, doesn’t plan to carry his “Salute to America” live, though the network will assess in real time whether to air clips of the event, a spokesperson told POLITICO.

Fox News is planning to cover “Salute to America” during a two-hour edition of “Special Report,” which airs from 6 to 8 p.m. And C-SPAN is planning to carry the event live, beginning at 6:15 p.m.
..............................................

The question of whether networks provide airtime comes as Trump’s event has been dogged by criticism for politicizing the typically nonpartisan celebration of America’s independence, as well as, militarizing it with fighter jets flying overhead and tanks on the ground.

Trump has said he was inspired by Bastille Day in France, though his desire for tanks rolling through Washington has drawn comparisons to military parades in authoritarian regimes.

The president’s appearance and portions of the parade will air on ABC’s streaming channel, ...........................

Trump advisers pursue Democratic drug-price ideas as campaign looms

Source: wash post

July 2 at 11:41 AM

President Trump was apoplectic about drug prices once again. A Wall Street Journal story in early January, picked up by Fox News, reported that prices on hundreds of drugs were going up — a slap in the face to a president who had campaigned on lowering costs and accused the pharmaceutical industry of “getting away with murder.”

At a Jan. 6 Camp David meeting, Trump fumed about Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar, whom he had charged with lowering drug prices, according to three people with knowledge of the conversation. Two days later in the Oval Office, a nervous Azar, who had just returned from vacation, detailed the intricacies of what he was doing to lower prices, leaving the president bored and impatient, according to people close to the situation.

“I don’t understand a word you’re saying,” Trump interrupted. “And no one else will, either.”

As Trump presses to make health care a central plank of his 2020 reelection bid, such episodes point to his mounting frustration with those he thinks are thwarting his ability to deliver on a major campaign promise: lowering drug prices. That has included Azar, a former drug executive who once pushed back on proposals to import lower-cost drugs from Canada and negotiate drug prices in Medicare. Now, though, under intense pressure to deliver campaign talking points, Azar is reversing his long-standing opposition to ideas traditionally espoused by Democrats and reviled by most Republicans and the drug industry.

“Inspired by the president’s passion, Secretary Azar has been pushing FDA to go even bigger and broader on importation,” one senior administration official said Monday. The official declined to detail specific policy changes..........................................

Drug prices skyrocket, increasing FIVE TIMES the cost of inflation in 2019

Source: DailyKos

Tuesday July 02, 2019 · 10:34 AM CDT

According to a CBSNews report, 2019 has seen more than 3,400 prescription drugs hike their prices—a lot. The report explains that the acerage price hike on these drugs is over 10%, or five times the rate of inflation. While there are a lot more than 3,400 drugs on the market, the reality is that many of those 3,400 are essential for people needing them. And the 10% average doesn’t take into account that some drugs have had outrageous spikes in price this year.

The costs of both medical care and medicine itself has led to a terrifying percentage of Americans skipping out on medical care and also rationing out prescription medication, in order to make ends meet. This is a crisis by all standards. Whether or not you believe that a Medicare-For-All plan will ameliorate these conditions, or whether you believe some general regulatory rules and enforcements will do the trick, you must realize that our country is having a health crisis—and drug costs are a big part of that crisis.

A good example of how insidious these price hikes have been is the life-saving regulatory drug for diabetes, insulin. According to the American Diabetes Association, at least 30 million Americans have diabetes. Of that number, around 7 million need daily insulin shots in order to survive. But because of sky-rocketing costs of the drug, at least 25% of patients have been rationing the drug in between paychecks. In another “developed” country, Canada, patients pay a tenth the price for insulin that we do here. Diabetes is the 7th leading killer of Americans in the United States—and it is underreported.

Republicans, for their part, are treating this health crisis the same way they have treated the gun violence crisis in our country—by trying to gum up the works of any meaningful investigations democratic officials try to mount.......................................
