Over 40 Infected With COVID-19 After Revival Event At Alabama Baptist Church: Pastor

Source: huff post

CORONAVIRUS 07/27/2020 11:01 am ET

Masks were not required during the multi-day event at Warrior Creek Missionary Baptist Church, according to Pastor Daryl Ross.

STRAWBERRY, Ala. (AP) — More than 40 people were infected with the coronavirus after attending a multi-day revival event at a north Alabama Baptist church, according to the congregation’s pastor.

.................

Ross said the services were shut down by Friday after learning that one of the members who attended had tested positive for the virus. The member presented no symptoms, but got tested when several of his coworkers received positive tests, according to the pastor.

Over the weekend, dozens more fell ill, Ross said, adding: “I’ve got church members sick everywhere.”

“We knew what we were getting into,” he said. “We knew the possibilities.”....................................

I fail to understand--and won't even try--why they would be so selfish. They are super spreaders now in their communities and families

The Texas death count is rising faster -- with 1,000 new coronavirus fatalities in just 6 days

Texas reached another grim milestone Sunday when it surpassed 5,000 deaths from the new coronavirus. In doing so, the state reported 1,000 deaths in six days, four days faster than it took to hit that total the previous time.

According to state health data released Sunday, 5,038 people in Texas had died from the virus. That’s 153 more deaths than the day before and 1,080 more than a week ago. Public health experts have said that reported totals are likely to be an undercount because not all people who died with coronavirus symptoms were tested.

....................................

National data has shown that Black and Hispanic people are disproportionately affected by the virus. In Texas, Hispanic people are the most likely to lack health coverage, making up 61% of the uninsured but only 40% of the population, according to figures used by the Texas Medical Association.
................................

...........................
.............................

The state recorded its largest number of daily new cases on July 15, at 10,791. On Sunday, that number was 5,810.

Epidemiologists and disease modelers have said they are cautiously optimistic that the mask mandate Gov. Greg Abbott issued three weeks ago is helping the state turn a corner in its efforts to contain the outbreak. ...............................
............

But hospital data is incomplete. The state isn’t releasing the information it collects about how many beds individual hospitals have available. And only a fraction of the state’s hospitals, cities and counties are providing that information to the public on their own..............................

May their families find peace. So many of deaths could have been prevented with good leadership.

A Christian nonprofit organization that fights world hunger asked Rep. Ted Yoho (R-Fla.) to resign from its board after he confronted a female colleague and then reportedly used a sexist expletive after Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) was out of earshot.

Bread for the World announced Yoho’s resignation in a statement on Saturday, saying that his “recent actions and words as reported in the media are not reflective of the ethical standards expected of members of our Board of Directors.”

The organization asked Yoho for his resignation on Friday. In its statement, the group said the decision was taken to reaffirm “our commitment to coming alongside women and people of color, nationally and globally, as they continue to lead us to a more racially inclusive and equitable world.”

Yoho has denied using the sexist slur attributed to him by a Hill reporter who overheard the exchange outside the Capitol earlier this week. Still, the congressman apologized in a floor speech Wednesday, but said, “I cannot apologize for my passion or for loving my God, my family and my country.”

Once Ocasio-Cortez walked away, Yoho called her a “f---ing b---h,” according to the Hill. A spokesman for Yoho said the congressman instead muttered the word “bulls---” to himself, referring to his opinion of Ocasio-Cortez’s policies.....

'Good luck eating out': Ted Cruz faces backlash after suggesting restaurant servers are grifters

Source: raw story

Published 1 min ago on July 26, 2020

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) faced backlash online on Sunday after he suggested restaurant servers are grifting government money instead of working during the coronavirus pandemic.

Cruz made the remarks during an appearance on the CBS program Face the Nation.

“I’ve spoken to small business owners all over the state of Texas who are trying to reopen,” the senator said, “and they are calling their waiters and waitresses, they are calling their bus boys and they won’t come back.”

Cruz added: “And of course they won’t come back because the federal government is paying them in some instances twice as much money to stay home.”.................................

Fahrenthold: Trump is trademarking ‘telerally’ to pump money into private business

“They applied for a trademark on this word ‘telerally’ and said … this new line of business we’re getting into is organizing political events,” says David Fahrenthold on Trump’s latest scheme. “And just after they filed for that trademark, the Trump campaign began holding telerallies.”July 24, 2020
