Donald Trump Has a Graph Showing the U.S. Is Actually Doing Great at the Coronavirus

By Elliot Hannon
Aug 04, 20206:00 AM

In a half-hour long interview that aired Monday night, President Donald Trump again showed why the United States’ response to the coronavirus pandemic has been so disastrous. The back-and-forth with Axios’ Jonathan Swan would be comical, if it didn’t involve real lives. Instead, it’s crushing. It’s crushing to watch the president sift through printed out graphs that somehow spin the U.S. response he has presided over as anything other than a national humiliation. At one point, when presented with the reality of a runaway number of cases in the U.S., Donald Trump, America’s president, conferred with a colorful computer printout of a graph or chart or whatever absurd thing he was holding. “The United States is lowest in… numerous categories,” he stammered. “We’re lower than the world.”

: “You can’t do that.”

Swan: “Why can’t I do that?”

GOP Sen. Ron Johnson is first target of new Democratic congressional 'integrity' group

The Congressional Integrity Project is raising questions about the senator's public actions and his personal finances in its initial report.

July 29, 2020, 4:35 AM CDT By Heidi Przybyla

WASHINGTON — Ron Johnson, R-Wis., who heads the Senate's chief oversight committee and is one of the wealthiest members of the Senate, has likely seen his personal fortune double as he has advocated for policies that have benefited him financially while he has been in office, a new Democratic-backed nonprofit group alleges.

The first report by the Congressional Integrity Project, which was shared with NBC News, outlines how Johnson, the powerful chairman of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, broke a campaign pledge to create a blind trust for Pacur LLC, the plastics company he once owned and in which he held a financial stake until earlier this year.

He also advocated for laws demanding lower rates for "pass through" entities similar to his family business and defended companies that have skirted taxes by using offshore corporate tax havens, the report said.

The report suggests that Johnson is likely to have increased his wealth anywhere from 50 percent to 100 percent since he took office, a figure confirmed by the nonpartisan Center for Responsive Politics. Johnson was paid millions by Pacur even after he was elected to the Senate in 2010, when his brother took over the company..........................

MSNBC elevates Nicolle Wallace to be the heart of the network's midday programming

Source: Washington Post

August 3, 2020 at 3:36 p.m. CDT

Host Nicolle Wallace, who has long stood out in MSNBC’s daily lineup as a former GOP strategist, will now have a bigger perch at the network when her show doubles in length from one hour to two, starting Aug. 17.

Her expanded role comes as part of a slate of programming changes announced by MSNBC on Monday, including anchor Chuck Todd’s weekday show moving from the more coveted 5 p.m. time slot to 1 p.m.

Todd, who will continue as host of “Meet the Press” on Sunday mornings on NBC, will also begin anchoring a new weekly show in September that will air on streaming news service NBC News Now and the company’s Peacock streaming platform.

Wallace’s “Deadline: White House” show has been something of a ratings success story for the network. In July, the show bested its 4 p.m. competitors on both Fox News and CNN in total viewers, with an average of 2 million people tuning in each day. (Though it came in third in the 25-to-54 viewer demographic, which is most valued by advertisers.)......................

Fauci warns of 'really bad situation' if daily coronavirus cases don't drop to 10K by September

Source: the hill

By Justine Coleman - 08/03/20 07:07 PM EDT

Anthony Fauci, the country’s top infectious disease expert, warned on Monday that the U.S. could be in a “really bad situation” if the number of new coronavirus cases confirmed daily does not drop to 10,000 by next month.

Fauci, the director of the National Institute for Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said during a livestream interview with the Journal of the American Medical Association that he is basing that number on the expected emergence of the flu in the fall, as well as the return of colder weather, which will likely drive more people indoors, where health experts say COVID-19 spreads easier.

"If we don't get them down, then we're going to have a really bad situation in the fall," Fauci said, according to NBC News.

Currently, the U.S. is seeing between 50,000 and 70,000 new COVID-19 cases identified per day, with a seven-day average of 61,815, according to New York Times data. ..........................................

Brian Murphy, acting undersecretary for intelligence and analysis may have LIED to committee.......

Schiff expands oversight on "unprecedented" protest-related intelligence

Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.), chair of the House Intelligence Committee, called reports that the Department of Homeland Security's Office of Intelligence and Analysis compiled intelligence on at least two American journalists associated with protests "unprecedented."
........................

Context: I&A reportedly disseminated three Open Source Intelligence Reports to federal law enforcement agencies and others that summarized tweets written by two journalists — a reporter for the New York Times and the editor in chief of legal blog, Lawfare.

.................................................

...............................
Of note: After the Post's report, Acting DHS Secretary Chad Wolf ordered the intelligence office to stop collecting information on journalists and announced an investigation into the matter.

DHS also reassigned Brian Murphy, acting undersecretary for intelligence and analysis, after the Post's report, according to Politico. Schiff noted that Murphy was reassigned, calling the action "abrupt."

What they're saying: “None of this is acceptable, none of this is ok, and all of it must be fully exposed and investigated," Schiff said in a statement Saturday.

"In light of recent public reports, we are concerned that Murphy may have provided incomplete and potentially misleading information to Committee staff during our recent oversight engagement, and that the Department of Homeland Security and I&A are now delaying or withholding underlying intelligence products, legal memoranda, and other records requested by the Committee that could shed light on these actions."

REVEALED: Trump wasted half a billion on 10,000 ventilators that won't arrive until September 2022

Source: raw story

Published 5 hours ago on August 2, 2020
By Daniel Villarreal, New Civil Rights Movement

A new report from the U.S. House Committee on Oversight and Reform found that the Trump Administration repeatedly delayed an Obama-era order from the health-technology company Philips for 10,000 ventilators, wasting half-a-billion dollars for machines that won’t even arrive until September 2022.

According to the report, in 2014, the Obama Administration signed a contract with Philips to add 10,000 ventilators to the nation’s stockpile by June 2019. Though Philips delayed the fulfillment until November 2019, had they been held to that deadline, the nation would have had plenty of ventilators for when the coronavirus epidemic started in March 2020.......................

Updated 12:17pm ET August 1, 2020

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Florida sheriffs who had attended a conference this week with a COVID-19-infected colleague met Friday afternoon with President Donald Trump.

Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood reported his positive test just hours before more than a dozen other sheriffs stood with Trump on the Tampa International Airport tarmac.

Chitwood had attended the Florida Sheriff's Association conference earlier this week in Bonita Springs. Gov. Ron DeSantis, Sen. Rick Scott, R-Fla., Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody and law enforcement officers from around the state were also at the conference.

On Friday night, the Florida Department of Corrections reported that Secretary Mark Inch, who attended the conference, and Deputy Secretary Ricky Dixon had tested positive..........

Rapid testing was done (for some) at this #trumprally, --a political event, which was what it was (meaning tax dollars spent) .
Yet, regular folks wait days for their results. Unfair hardly cuts it.
