Trump Says He 'Appreciates' That QAnon Supporters 'Like Me Very Much'

Source: huff post

“I’ve heard these are people that love our country,” the president said of followers of the far-right conspiracy movement.

Supporters of QAnon, which has been identified by the FBI as a potential domestic terrorism threat, believe that an individual dubbed “Q” has been leaving “breadcrumbs” of information online about Trump and others.

Among the baseless conspiracy theories touted by QAnon followers — some of whom have been implicated in multiple crimes in recent years, including armed standoffs, kidnappings and murder — include the claim that Trump has been working to dismantle a “deep state” cabal of liberal and Hollywood elites who traffic children and worship Satan.

When asked directly by a reporter about this claim — that Trump is “secretly saving the world” from a “Satanic cult of pedophiles and cannibals,” the president wondered aloud as to whether that was a “bad thing or a good thing.”

“I haven’t heard that, but is that supposed to be a bad thing or a good thing?” he said. “If I can help save the world from problems, I’m willing to do it.”........................................

Funding matches amount invested by former New York City mayor during midterms in 2018

Former New York City mayor Mike Bloomberg is planning to spend around $60m (£45.5m) to help strengthen the Democratic House Majority in November, as his former aides have called for him to be pulled from speaking at the Democratic National Convention (DNC) this week.

The investment, that was announced on Monday, will match the amount Bloomberg spent in midterm elections in 2018, that helped the Democrats flip control of the House away from Republicans, according to the Washington Post.

The spending will include both television and digital ads that will be targeted in areas to help the 20 Democrats who were newly elected in 2018 keep their seats.

Funding will be split between Bloomberg’s political group, Independence USA, and the House Majority PAC, which is closely associated with House speaker Nancy Pelosi.

Speaking about the funding on Monday, one of the former mayor’s advisers told the Post: “Mike’s view is that the investments he made last time are some of the best investments he has ever made.

“We are going to be looking at the same kinds of places, which is to say suburban, swing districts. There will be some overlap with presidential contest states.”.....................................

President Donald Trump on Wednesday promoted a boycott of Goodyear, angrily reacting to a viral company policy that banned employees from wearing “MAGA Attire.”

“Don’t buy GOODYEAR TIRES - They announced a BAN ON MAGA HATS. Get better tires for far less!” Trump wrote on Twitter. “(This is what the Radical Left Democrats do. Two can play the same game, and we have to start playing it now!).”.......................................

New York-based U.S. District Court Judge Frederic Block ruled that the proposed regulation issued by the Department of Health and Human Services could not go into effect on Tuesday as planned

The administration’s rule says federal law that bars discrimination in healthcare “on the basis of sex” does not cover gender identity or sex stereotyping.

Block said the legal basis of the regulation was now in question after the Supreme Court’s major ruling in June finding that LGBT people are protected under a federal law using similar language that bars employment discrimination.

...................................

“When the Supreme Court announces a major decision, it seems a sensible thing to pause and reflect on the decision’s impact,” Block wrote in Monday’s ruling.

In 2016, the administration of President Barack Obama had introduced earlier rules that would have protected LGBT people under the healthcare discrimination provision, which is part of the 2010 Affordable Care Act, commonly known as Obamacare.......................

USPS Quietly Added Rule Prohibiting Workers From Signing Mail-In Ballots As Witnesses

Source: TpM

August 19, 2020 8:05 a.m.

The U.S. Postal Service enacted a rule this summer banning its clerks from signing mail-in ballots as witnesses while on duty, a restriction that can prevent the ballots from being counted.

The Anchorage Daily News reported on Tuesday that Alaska Division of Elections Director Gail Fenumiai had sent the USPS a letter last Thursday seeking an explanation for complaints that postal workers in her state had been telling voters they were not allowed to sign the ballots.

“This came as surprise to the state because we know in past elections postal officials have served as witnesses,” Fenumiai wrote. “Rural Alaska relies heavily on postal officials as they are often sometimes the only option for a witness.”

In fact, Alaska’s instructions on sending in ballots state that a postal worker counts as an “authorized official” who can sign on as a voter’s witnesses..............................

my question is --Did DeJoy reverse or put this order on hold?
my guess is NO!

President Donald Trump in 2016 promised that, unlike former President Barack Obama, he would be too busy working as president to go golfing.

In reality, Trump has gone golfing far more often during his first term than Obama did over the same period of time, and a new ad from the progressive Meidas Touch super PAC uses Trump’s golf addiction to show how he’s failed to keep multiple promises made during the 2016 campaign...............

Barbara Boxer: " I never imagined a president like Trump when I voted to create the @DHS"

great article. a few weeks old but I missed it earlier.

'I regret voting for it frmr Senator #BarbaraBoxer writes re #DHS 'I never imagined a president using unconfirmed puppets like #ChadWolf to terrorize our own citizens in our own country'..'cruel enough to put children behind bars while crying parents...'

Barbara Boxer: DHS was a mistake. I regret voting for it.

I never imagined a president like Trump when I voted to create the Department of Homeland Security.

Here are the three words that no elected official, serving or retired, wants to say: “I was wrong.”

Throughout my career, I was known for taking some very lonely votes. But I made a mistake in 2002 when I voted to create the Department of Homeland Security, which had been recommended by a number of members of Congress in the wake of the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11 the year before.

Looking back in the congressional record, I could hear the doubts in my voice.

“I have tremendous misgivings about the size and shape of this department,” I said. I warned that people could be “less accountable, hiding under layers of bureaucracy.” I worried out loud on the Senate floor about including FEMA, the Coast Guard and immigration agencies into one giant department.

The federal police in Portland don’t even understand what ‘arrests’ are

Still, most people thought this was a good idea. The memory of 9/11 haunted me: The hijacked airplanes were headed to California, which I represented, and I’d lost constituents in the attack. The World Trade Center collapsed in the city where I was born........................

......................

...............I also never imagined a president appointing a lobbyist who was not even confirmed by the U.S. Senate to head such a department. I never imagined a president cruel enough to initiate a child separation policy and put helpless children behind wire while their crying parents had no power to fight for their children.........................
