Here’s the big one: “It would be my intention with the consent of this Caucus.... to proceed with an impeachment inquiry,” Pelosi said per a source in the room.

Trump told her he had nothing to do with blocking the whistleblower report and she told him to “undo it.”

Intel Chairman Adam Schiff spoke after Pelosi. He told the caucus that Trump wasn’t asking Ukraine to “dig up dirt,” he was asking Ukraine to “manufacture dirt” on his opponent.

As a former prosecutor, I loved when defendants made incriminating statements after they were caught.

It was even better when they would change their stories.

@realDonaldTrump
has done both on national TV. And this time, he's not going to get away with it.

Pelosi signals Ukraine allegations don't need quid pro quo to be wrong

Source: The Hill

By Cristina Marcos - 09/24/19 03:11 PM EDT

Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said Tuesday that the transcript of President Trump's call with Ukraine's leader doesn't need to show a "quid pro quo" in withholding military aid in order for the president's actions to be considered wrong.

"If the president brings up, he wants them to investigate something of his political opponent, that is self-evident that it is not right. We don't ask foreign governments to help us in our elections," Pelosi said at the Atlantic Festival. "There is no requirement there be a quid pro quo in the conversation."

Pelosi said the allegations, if true, would be "wrong."

Despite a follow-up question from interviewer Jeffrey Goldberg, Pelosi declined to specifically say if they would be impeachable.

Without offering specifics, Pelosi noted that there are other subjects that are under investigation as potentially impeachable offenses. But she said that the latest controversy, that Trump reportedly pressed the Ukrainian government to investigate former Vice President Joe Biden, a potential 2020 rival, "is one is the most understandable by the public.".....................................

Schumer says releasing transcript of Trump call falls short

Source: The Hill

September 24, 2019 - 02:58 PM EDT

Senate Democratic Leader Charles Schumer (N.Y.) on Tuesday said releasing the transcript of a call between President Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky doesn't go far enough and says Congress needs to see the whistleblower complaint the administration has held back.

"We need the complaint. We need the complaint of the whistleblower as sent to the IG," Schumer said, referring to a complaint filed by an unnamed whistleblower to intelligence community Inspector General Michael Atkinson.

"It's nice to have the transcript. We don't even know right now if the complaint is about the transcript, in part or in whole," Schumer added. "And without the complaint, we don't know what the IG thought was so urgent. We do not know what the whistleblower thought was so urgent."

"So simply releasing the transcript does not come close to ending the need of the American public and the Congress to see what actually happened," Schumer said.

He also questioned whether the administration would withhold portions considered classified....................................

Trump mocks teenage climate activist Greta Thunberg

Source: CNN

Greta Thunberg: You are failing us. How dare you

Washington (CNN)President Donald Trump mocked Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg on Twitter late Monday night after the 16-year-old excoriated world leaders for not doing enough to tackle the climate crisis.

"She seems like a very happy young girl looking forward to a bright and wonderful future. So nice to see!" Trump posted on Twitter, replying to a video of Thunberg's speech at the United Nations climate action summit earlier in the day.

Trump's penchant for Twitter insults and online confrontations with people he sees as political adversaries is well known, though Monday's tweet is a striking display of the President teasing a child.

Thunberg appeared to take Trump's slight in stride. By late Tuesday morning, she had updated her Twitter bio to read: "A very happy young girl looking forward to a bright and wonderful future."

Trump officials want to bring their backward ideas on women's health to the UN

Trump officials want to bring their backward ideas on women's health to the UN

https://shareblue.com/donald-trump-united-nations-womens-health-abortion-alex-azar-un/

Lisa Needham - September 24, 2019

At the United Nations this week, the Trump team shopped a letter asking other countries to agree to the administration's regressive health policies.

Not content to restrict the rights of women here at home, the Trump team has been approaching other countries to get them to sign on to this administration's backward views as to women's health.

The Guardian reported on a leaked letter signed by both Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Secretary of Health and Human Services Alex Azar that was written to several United Nations member states they believe are sympathetic to this administration's retrograde views on reproductive health issues. As the Guardian put it, this is what seems to be "the latest attempt by the Trump administration to roll back women's rights."

This letter was intended to be presented at Monday's U.N. meeting on universal health coverage, though the meeting website makes no mention of the administration's efforts. It's an odd fit for the meeting, given that the goal of the session was to "mobilize the global community and secure political commitment from Heads of State and Government to accelerate progress toward achieving universal health coverage by 2030."
................................................

A drastic reduction in the ability of organizations to fight deadly diseases and prevent unwanted pregnancies is hardly a way to "increase access to vital healthcare and advance optimal health outcomes for women, children, and adolescents" — but this administration doesn't care. What they really care about is imposing a narrow evangelical worldview on everyone else, and they're hoping to use U.N. meetings to do it.

Trump's anti-abortion rule actually increases abortions by 40%

https://shareblue.com/global-gag-rule-trump-increase-abortions-40-percent/
By Dan Desai Martin -July 1, 2019

Trump's anti-woman global gag rule reduces women's access to health care and increases the number of abortions around the world.

Trump's attack on women's health care and abortion access around the world has been discovered to actually increase the number of people seeking abortions by 40%, according to a study released June 27 in the Lancet.

The rigorous study lays out the evidence that the global gag rule is responsible for denying women adequate health care, leading to an increase in unwanted pregnancies and a subsequent increase in the number of abortions.

The global gag rule denies U.S. international assistance to any organization that speaks to women about abortion as a health care option. U.S. law already prevents taxpayer funds from being used to perform abortions, but the global gag rule goes further, preventing organizations that receive U.S. assistance from using their own funds to perform abortions, or even refer women to clinics that provide abortions.

When Trump implemented the global gag rule, the White House claimed it was because he "made it very clear that he's a pro-life president." Yet this policy is responsible for an uptick in abortions, as the Lancet points out.

In the countries studied, scientists found a 14% decrease in the use of contraception and a 12% increase in pregnancies.

"If you lower the contraceptive supply, then there are more unintended pregnancies and then more abortions," Nina Brooks, one of the authors of the study, told NPR.

The decrease in contraception occurred because many of the organizations that were denied funding provide a wide range of health care services, including birth control. Without the funding, those services were scaled back, women were denied access to contraception, unwanted pregnancies increased and thus there were more abortions.........................

New York police are investigating thefts of $350,000 in jewelry at Trump Tower

Updated 2:38 PM ET, Mon September 23, 2019

................Neither police report indicated that there was forced entry, a police spokesman told The New York Times.
The investigations come as President Donald Trump stayed at his namesake building on Sunday night ahead of several days of United Nations meetings. He is expected to stay there again on Monday night, according to his public calendar.

A spokesperson for the Secret Service referred CNN's inquiries about whether they were assisting with the investigation to the New York Police Department.
Jonathan Wackrow, a former Secret Service agent and CNN contributor, said there was an "embarrassment factor" for the Secret Service that the incident occurred. Still, he said the apparent thefts raise concerns about an insider threat at Trump Tower, which is a Secret Service permanent protected property.
