No, We Weren’t ‘Suckers’ or ‘Losers’

The military colleagues who saved my life knew what service means. Trump, in contrast, lets his personal insecurities endanger America’s national security.

Tammy Duckworth
U.S. Senator for Illinois

If Donald Trump had been on the battlefield with me in Iraq back in November 2004, I doubt I ever would’ve made it home.

In the Army, part of our soldier’s creed involves never leaving a fallen comrade behind. The only reason I am alive today is that, after a rocket-propelled grenade exploded in the Black Hawk helicopter I was co-piloting, my buddies embodied that creed. They thought I was dead but still risked their own safety to bring my body back home to my family. Only when they got me to a rescue aircraft did they realize that I was still breathing. Then they ignored their own injuries, refusing care until the medic tended to me first.

Read: ‘The military has seen the writing on the wall’

My crewmates were heroes that afternoon. Yet apparently, in Trump’s eyes, each of us in that aircraft must have been a “loser” because our helicopter got shot down by the enemy. Had we been killed, he very well might call us “suckers,” too
. After all, those are the terms that, according to The Atlantic’s reporting, the commander in chief has used to describe members of the armed forces who have been killed, captured, or shot down in battle. He also told his staff that “nobody wants to see” wounded warriors like me who lost limbs fighting to keep other Americans safe.

Trump might not like seeing visible proof of my injuries, but I couldn’t care less. To me, the wounds and wheelchairs of those who have worn our nation’s uniform should be considered badges of honor. I’m able to serve in the Senate today because the ethos of the United States military is the exact opposite of the craven, me-first mentality that he has shown every hour of every day of his gold-plated, privileged life.

From all he’s said, from all he’s done, it’s impossible for me to believe that, like my crewmates, Trump would have risked his own life to save mine or that of any other American in that dusty field in 2004.
But Trump never would have been in Iraq with us that day, because he fundamentally cannot fathom the notion of sacrificing for your nation. He can’t comprehend the true meaning of courage or the idea of fighting for something greater than himself, his bank account, or his poll numbers. The Atlantic’s story is only more evidence that he isn’t able to grasp what the military is all about. He doesn’t understand service, so he doesn’t understand America’s service members: the heroes who have allowed him to sleep soundly high up in that gilded Fifth Avenue tower................................

Wyden: RonJohn Stumbled Upon Evidence Of Trump Corruption In Ukraine Probe

Source: TPM

September 23, 2020 3:57 p.m.

Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) accidentally revealed more evidence of corruption in the Trump administration’s dealings with Ukraine in the course of his investigation into Hunter Biden, according to a letter from Sen. Ron Wyden (D-OR).

In an unbelievable twist of irony, the corruption allegation has to do with a cabinet-level Trump official pressuring the Ukrainian government to alter the composition of the board of a Ukrainian energy company.

Lawmakers came across the evidence last week during the testimony of Amos Hochstein, who serves on the supervisory board of state-owned Ukrainian oil and gas holding Naftogaz.

Hochstein told the investigation that former Energy Secretary Rick Perry “inappropriately pressured the Ukrainian government” to place a Houston-based businessman named Robert Bensch on the board of Naftogaz, while other DOE officials pressed Kyiv to sign an agreement with a “private business entity connected to Mr. Bensh,” the letter reads.

Wyden addressed the letter to the Department of Energy Inspector General. He noted that the Senate Homeland Security and Finance Committees “are concluding an investigation into potential conflicts of interest related to executive branch officials who are responsible for carrying out the United States Government’s foreign policy in Ukraine.”

President Donald Trump has been vocal about having a list of candidates who he thinks will be perfect to fill the Supreme Court vacancy. Among all, Amy Coney Barrett has emerged as one of the top candidates. Trump has not shied away from praising Barrett's capabilities, and with him promising to reveal his decision soon, it looks like Barrett has a fair chance of winning.

Apart from being an attorney, Barrett and her family are members of a controversial church called People of Praise. The church asks members to take a "lifetime loyalty 'covenant', encourages female submission to their husbands", as reported by Daily Mail. The church also inspired 'The Handmaid's Tale', a show that gained popularity when it first made its debut in 2017. The church was formed as part of the Catholic revitalization movement in 1971, and at least 10 members from Barrett's family are part of it. Barrett's father, Mike Coney, is part of the board of members of the church. They are believed to be the "highest authority".

The website of the church calls themselves "a charismatic Christian community. We admire the first Christians who were led by the Holy Spirit to form a community". Those early believers put their lives and their possessions in common, and "there were no needy persons among them". Each member of the church is allotted a "personal adviser" who helps them with the "decisions on marriage, career, and other life choices". Apart from this, the members are also asked to give out other information, such as sins committed by them, their financial information. While they are being called advisors, previously these people were known as "heads" for males and "handmaids" for females. The outlet further reports that the church believes the husband has authority over his wife. While members of the church had to make a lifelong commitment, they were given time to think about their decision.

The website claims, "community members make this pledge freely, after a formation and instruction period that lasts three to six years. The covenant is a permanent commitment, and yet we are also open to the possibility that God may call a person to another way of life". The members of the community also give "five percent of their gross income" to the church, which is then used for supporting the community. At the same time, marriages within the members of the church are not uncommon. The website claims that "marriages in the community have a very low divorce rate". At the same time, the members of the community are willing to be there for each other. "Spiritual, material or financial," any kind of their need is fulfilled by the other member. Despite agreeing to spend a lifetime in the community, their official website reveals that people have the freedom to walk out when they want.............................

Amy Coney Barrett is an active follower of the People of Praise church and while people have praised it, others have scrutinized their beliefs

GOP Senator introduces bill that could require genital exams for girls competing in school sports

Source: lgbtqnation.com

Sen. Kelly Loeffler's bill to ban transgender girls from school sports is meant to "protect women," she says. But with federal funding on the line, there could be unintended consequences.

By Alex Bollinger Wednesday, September 23, 2020 32 Comments

Sen. Kelly Loeffler (R-GA) introduced a bill that would ban transgender girls from competing in school sports with their gender, threatening federal funding to schools that support transgender students.

Loeffler introduced the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act in the Senate and said that it “protects [cisgender] women and girls,” presumably from transgender women and girls.

The bill would explicitly state that allowing transgender girls and women to compete with their gender in school sports violates Title IX’s ban on discrimination on the basis of sex in schools, which is the legal theory the Trump administration is already using to threaten funding for school districts.

Loeffler’s bill, which says nothing about transgender boys competing in boys’ and men’s sports, says that “sex shall be recognized based solely on a person’s reproductive biology and genetics at birth” in girls’ and women’s sports.

WASHINGTON, DC - JULY 28: U.S. Attorney General William Barr hears from Assistant Attorney General for Legislative Affairs Stephen Boyd as Barr testifies before the House Judiciary Committee in the Congressional Audi... MORE

By Matt Shuham September 22, 2020 10:55 a.m.

The Justice Department on Monday told the House Judiciary Committee that several high-profile witnesses would not testify as requested because legislators had been rude to Attorney General Bill Barr.

The Judiciary Committee in recent weeks had requested testimony from the directors of the Bureau of Prisons and the U.S. Marshals Service, as well as from the assistant attorney general leading the DOJ’s Civil Rights Division, Eric Dreiband. Writing in response to Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler (D-NY) on Monday, Assistant Attorney General Stephen Boyd’s letter might as well have been one word: No.

Instead, Boyd wrote at length about the indignities the attorney general experienced during his July 28 appearance before the committee, when Boyd said members of Congress chose “to use their allotted time to air grievances.” .........................

Pam Bondi Says Kyle Rittenhouse Crossed State Lines 'to Protect His Community

Kenosha Unrest: Teen Arrested In Deadly Shootings During Jacob Blake Protests

Former Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi has defended 17-year-old Illinois double murder suspect Kyle Rittenhouse as a "little boy" who was merely "trying to protect his community" during the shootings in Kenosha, Wisconsin last month.

Bondi appeared on Sean Hannity's Fox News show to discuss new video footage released by Rittenhouse's attorney which paints the suspect in a favorable light and suggests his actions were justified in the "war zone" which had broken out in Kenosha in the wake of the police shooting of Jacob Blake.

"You have got a 17-year-old out there trying to protect his state," Bondi said, despite the fact the teenager traveled from his hometown in Antioch, Illinois, to attend the protests on August 25.

"He is helping people who have been injured. He has paramedic training from being a lifeguard. He is taking graffiti off walls. He is trying to mitigate the chaos out there."

In a statement provided to Newsweek, Bondi clarifed she meant that Rittenhouse was "defending a nearby city" and not his home state or community................................

Pam Bondi forgets to say that Rittenhouse brought his loaded long gun with him as he crossed from Illinois to Wisconsin

umm... was he taking graffiti off the wall in the dark?
