WASHINGTON ........................

.......................Vice President-elect Mike Pence's political career, for example, has long been supported by pharmaceutical giant Eli Lilly, which is based in his home state of Indiana. The drugmaker, through its political action committee and employees, is Pence's third-largest all-time political contributor, according to the independent Center for Responsive Politics.

Pence is leading the Trump transition.

Other key figures in Trump's circle of advisers have included a former executive at drugmakers Pfizer and Celgene and the chairman of Williams & Jensen, a Washington lobbying firm. According to federal reports, Williams and Jensen's clients in recent years have included 11 of the world's largest drugmakers, including Pfizer, Novartis, AstraZeneca, Merck and Bayer.

In contrast to his silence on drug prices, Trump displayed little hesitation blasting them when he was campaigning.

He railed against the political power of the drug industry, which he said was responsible for blocking Medicare from using its bargaining power to negotiate lower drug prices for seniors.

"They have a fantastic lobby. They take care of all of the senators, the congressmen," Trump said at a Republican primary debate in March.

Trump's campaign platform included a proposal to give Americans more access to lower-priced, imported drugs, which his campaign said would "bring more options to consumers."

..............................

In September, drug prices shot up 7 percent over the past year, the sharpest increase in 24 years, according to the Altarum Institute, a nonprofit research and consulting organization. Overall health care prices were up 2.1 percent.

White supremacists confer in Washington to influence Trump

Source: raw story

Lisa Mascaro
Tribune Washington Bureau

WASHINGTON — The buttoned-down millennials, in their dark suits and ties, settled in for the long conference day ahead.

They came to Washington to position their interests at the forefront of the political agenda. Their sponsor was the alt-right think tank called the National Policy Institute.

The group at the conference was almost entirely young men.

This was the white nationalist lobby — the alt-right — coming to town for a victory lap after Donald Trump's election, assuming what they see as their rightful place influencing the new administration.

"An awakening among everyone has occurred with this Trump election," said Richard Spencer, president of the white nationalist think tank, as he opened the conference. "We're not quite the establishment now, but I think we should start acting like it."...............................

.................According to a report from Mediaite, reporters at Obama’s press conference in Lima, Peru asked Obama who his pick was for Democratic Leader. Obama reiterated his support of Pelosi as a “remarkable leader.” However, he continued, saying that Democrats in the House and Senate should give the new Donald Trump administration a “hearing.”

“I certainly don’t want them to do what Mitch McConnell did when I was elected,” President Obama said. “Meet the day of and say our sole objective is to not cooperate with him on anything even if the country is about to go into a depression so that we can gain seats in the mid-terms and defeat him.”

Sen. McConnell (R-KY) announced that his single goal as the leader for the Republican Senate was to make President Obama a one-term president. Republicans proceeded to block all legislation coming out of the White House. Last year, when conservative Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia died, Obama nominated Judge Merrick Garland, but Republicans have refused to give him a hearing claiming Obama doesn’t deserve to nominate three justices. No president in United States history has ever had his justice denied a hearing.

“My advice to Democrats is, know what you care about and what you stand for and fight for your principles even if it’s hard fight,” Obama said....................................

I am glad that Obama stood up for Pelosi.

I would like nothing better than for Dems to just say no--but on the other hand--letting the bills come to the floor and having a public discussion is fine by me. A public airing is good for all.

NBC News under fire for misleading tweets about Trump chief of staff's answer on Muslim registry

Source: businessinsider

NBC News came under fire Sunday morning for a pair of tweets that removed context from an answer Reince Priebus, President-elect Donald Trump’s pick for White House chief of staff, offered on the idea of a Muslim registry.

Priebus appeared “Meet the Press” and was asked by host Chuck Todd if he could rule out the idea of placing Muslims on a registry.

Here was the exchange:

TODD: Can you equivocally rule out a registry for Muslims?

PRIEBUS: Look, I’m not going to rule out anything. But, we are not going to have a registry based on religion.

The public relations account for NBC News tweeted out the exchange twice, but left out the second part of Priebus’ response: ...............

Judge Tells New Citizens They Can Leave The U.S. If They Dont Like Donald Trump

This judge way over-stepped his boundaries. He is essentially telling these new citizens that their first amendment rights are null and void. He is threatening them IMHO!

A federal judge presiding over a naturalization ceremony in San Antonio, Texas, on Friday told new U.S. citizens if they didn’t like President-elect Donald Trump, they could leave the United States.

“I can assure you that whether you voted for him or you did not vote for him, if you are a citizen of the United States, he is your president,”
Judge John Primomo said, according to KENS 5. “He will be your president and if you do not like that, you need to go to another country.”

From the start of his presidential campaign, Trump made attacking immigrants a central component of his candidacy. He called Mexican immigrants rapists and criminals and pledged to ban all Muslim immigrants from entering the U.S. On Friday, he announced he would nominate Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.), a staunch anti-immigration hardliner, as his attorney general.

Primomo told KENS 5 that his comments were intended to be unifying and that he meant them to be respectful to the office of the president. He also criticized demonstrators who have been protesting Trump since he was elected on Nov. 8. Since the election, there has also been an uptick in attacks on minority groups in the United States, according to the Southern Poverty Law Center. .......................

Nov 20, 2016, 5:09 AM ET

It's been nearly two weeks since the November 8 general election, but the results have not remained static as ballots continue to be counted.

While the number of votes for both president-elect Donald Trump and his former Democratic rival Hillary Clinton continue to increase, the gap is widening, with Clinton expanding her popular vote lead over Trump.

According to new figures released by The Associated Press on Saturday, Clinton received more than 1.5 million votes than her Republican rival.

As of Saturday, Clinton had received 63,390,669 votes, while Trump received 61,820,845 votes -- a difference of 1,569,824, according to The AP.

Rounded off to whole numbers, that translates to 48 percent vs. 47 percent.

I do not know Hillary's plans for her future but I strongly suspect she will engage in some causes near and dear to her.

STOCKTON, Calif. -- The father of a soldier who was killed last weekend in Afghanistan was disappointed and hurt after airline passengers booed him and his family as they flew to meet his son's remains.

Stewart Perry, an ex-Marine who lives in Stockton, said the ordeal left him feeling disrespected.

"It was really disgusting on the passengers' part," he said Friday.

His son, Sgt. John Perry, was one of two killed in an explosion at a United States airbase on Nov. 12. He was honored at a memorial service in Lodi on Thursday and will be buried in Arlington National Cemetery.

John Perry, 30, and Pfc. Tyler R. Iubelt of Tamaroa, Illinois, died from their injuries after the attack by an apparent suicide bomber at the Bagram Airfield at about 5:30 a.m. local time.

..................
Stewart Perry said he, his wife, Kathy, and daughter were flying on an American Airlines flight from Sacramento on Monday to Philadelphia, with a quick transfer in Phoenix. From Philadelphia, they traveled to Dover Air Force Base in Delaware to receive his son's remains.

For unknown reasons, Perry said, the flight to Phoenix was 45 minutes late. The crew feared the delay might cause the Perrys miss their connecting flight.

So, when the plane landed in Phoenix, the captain made an announcement for all passengers to remain seated and to let a "special military family" exit the aircraft first, Perry said.

Several passengers in first class began to boo and complain, Perry said........................
