NACO, Ariz. — President Trump's border wall probably will require the installation of hundreds of storm gates to prevent flash floods from undermining or knocking it over, gates that must be left open for months every summer during "monsoon season" in the desert, according to U.S. border officials, agents and engineers familiar with the plans.

Chief Justice Roberts will forever be known as the "Kangaroo Court Justice" if he does not insist that witnesses be called and declare a mistrial if witnesses are not called.
The Constitution requires a trial.
This is not a trial.

The president and his campaign’s behavior at a Thursday rally was glaringly incompetent, especially given the administration's record of attacking the free press.

President Trump likes to brag about the crowds at his campaign rallies, with many supporters supposedly kept outside because of capacity concerns. At his Thursday event in Des Moines, it was members of the press who were left out in the cold, along with ticketed guests.

Even though photos The Daily Iowan reviewed from reporters present showed empty seats in the press room after the 6:30 p.m. cutoff time for media access, and even though the DI was credentialed days in advance, the DI was one of several news outlets barred from entering the venue.

Other outlets with correspondents shut out from the rally included NPR, New York Magazine, The Daily Beast, and Carroll Times Herald. Security officials told members of the media waiting outside that the venue was at capacity, so the fire marshal wasn’t permitting more people to enter.....

While this exclusion could have been a legitimate capacity problem, it seems unlikely given what is known about the president and his campaign organization.

The most conspicuous reason for conclusions about wrongdoing is Trump’s behavior toward the press, especially coverage he judges as unfavorable to him. During his rally, the president repeatedly railed against the “fake news” while pointing to the sparse press that was allowed to attend.......

In Austin, John Bolton voices support for officials called in impeachment hearing

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Speaking at a private event in Austin Thursday, Former National Security Advisor John Bolton defended government officials who testified in front of the U.S. House impeachment inquiry.

The United States Senate could soon decide whether to call Bolton to testify himself in the President’s impeachment trial.

Sources tell KXAN Bolton defended former diplomatic and state department officials Fiona Hill, Tim Morrison, Alex Vindman, Bill Taylor, and Marie Yovanovitch.

“All of them acted in the best interest of the country as they saw it and consistent to what they thought our policies were,” said Bolton, during the question-and-answer time after his keynote speech.

He went on to say members of the Trump Administration should “feel they’re able to speak their minds without retribution.”..............................

The Trump Administration Is Coming For Medicaid Again

Source: huff post

01/30/2020 04:43 pm ET Updated 4 hours ago

It just proposed a radical change in the program that could cut benefits for “healthy adults.”

The Trump administration is back with a new initiative that could make it harder for some low-income Americans to get health care.

Officials on Thursday told states that they can request major changes in the operation and funding of their Medicaid programs. Under the new arrangement, the outlines of which were first reported by Politico over the weekend, states would have more leeway to modify benefits and eligibility standards for some parts of the population.

In return, states would have to accept a more limited commitment of funds from the federal government.

The initiative is by all accounts the brainchild of Seema Verma, chief administrator for Medicare and Medicaid. In a press call Thursday morning, she said the new flexibility will allow states to experiment with ways of providing better care at a lower cost, while freeing up more resources to provide care for the people who need it most.

.................
................

...................................

This new financing option is a variation on what’s known as a “block grant,” which would end the federal government’s open-ended promise to finance Medicaid coverage for whoever needs it, however much it costs. Republicans have historically promoted block grants as a way to limit or reduce Medicaid spending, and many experts believe such proposals would lead to cuts in enrollment or benefits that would harm beneficiaries.

That potential has stirred up opposition and helps explain why Medicaid block grants have never gotten the support they needed to get through Congress...........................................

Burr backs Trump lawyer claim on foreign dirt

Source: politico

The Senate Intelligence Committee chairman and other Republicans said they had no problem with a controversial argument made to defend Trump.

01/30/2020 01:35 PM EST

...................

White House Deputy Counsel Patrick Philbin told senators during Wednesday’s session of President Donald Trump’s impeachment trial that it was a “mistake” to believe that any information about a political opponent that originates from a foreign country amounts to improper interference in a U.S. election.

“I have no problem with what Philbin said,” Burr told reporters.

Philbin, responding to a question about whether Trump believes foreign interference in an American election is “illegal,” told senators that as long as the information is credible, it is relevant to American voters.

“I think that the idea that any information that happens to come from overseas is necessarily campaign interference is a mistake,” he said. “Information that is credible that potentially shows wrongdoing by someone who happens to be running for office, if it’s credible information, is relevant information for the voters to know about.”

The argument outraged Democrats — including Burr’s counterpart on the Intelligence Committee, Vice Chairman Mark Warner (D-Va.), who said “my head exploded” when he heard the remark. Burr and Warner have worked closely on the issue of election interference in the aftermath of Russia’s efforts to meddle in the 2016 election — perhaps the only bipartisan duo in Congress still working closely together on the issue..............

Sen Rand Paul just gave a press conference and named what he thinks is the whistleblower

I read that John Roberts refused once again today to read Pauls question on the senate floor.
So he went out and told the world.
