Alabama College Disinvites Historian Jon Meacham After Anti-Abortion Protest

Published Oct. 30, 2021 12:56PM ET

Pulitzer Prize-winning historian Jon Meacham was invited to speak at Samford University in Alabama on the importance of civil discourse to celebrate the inauguration of the school’s new president. But Meacham has now been disinvited after students at the Southern Baptist institution, incensed that he had appeared at a Planned Parenthood event in Texas, kicked up a fuss.

“Although I am disappointed by the narrative that has combined important conversations about pro-life issues and Mr. Meacham’s planned appearance at Samford, it is vitally important to me that next week’s events unify and draw our community together to celebrate the history and future of Samford University, a place we love and for which we all care deeply,” President Beck Taylor said, according to AL.com. “Unexpectedly, Mr. Meacham’s planned lecture has become a divisive issue, one that takes attention away from our opportunity to celebrate Samford.”

Ice Cube Loses $9 Million Film Gig After Refusing to Get Vaccinated

The rapper had encouraged mask wearing during the pandemic but has apparently changed tune when it comes to vaccinations.

Updated Oct. 29, 2021 2:48PM ET / Published Oct. 29, 2021 2:03PM ET

According to sources cited by The Hollywood Reporter, he left the Sony comedy Oh Hell No! after he refused producers’ requests to get vaccinated. The film, which is set to star Jack Black, is scheduled to start production in Hawaii in December. Ice Cube was set to receive a $9 million payout for the production.

The departure is the second film the actor has left since the start of the pandemic, withdrawing from a boxing film that had only shot a day of film before COVID-19 put a pause on Hollywood.

Ice Cube, whose real name is O’Shea Jackson, had been a vocal supporter of masking throughout the pandemic. During the height of the Delta variant wave in August, he donated 2,000 face masks to a college in Oklahoma. He also sold shirts encouraging mask-wearing in April 2020, shortly after the pandemic started.

But some of his tweets offered a mixed view on the seriousness of the virus. In early June last year, he tweeted that doctors should “stop lying about the Coronavirus,” saying the world needs “the absolute TRUTH.” Days later, he tweeted a photo of the “CUE” for the virus, which featured a mocked-up album cover of someone getting a substance implanted through a needle with “Lethal Injection” over the photo.

Republican Rep. Devin Nunes has filed ten lawsuits against media companies, activists and the investigative research firm behind the Steele Dossier. He alleges they conspired against his re-election and harmed his reputation.
By Joshua Bessex

WASHINGTON A federal judge this week ordered Rep. Devin Nunes’ family members to disclose how they are paying for their defamation lawsuit against a reporter and magazine publisher over a 2018 story about their Iowa farm.

The judge will review the records detailing who is paying for the litigation behind closed doors before deciding whether to share them with lawyers for the reporter and publisher, meaning that there is a possibility that no one else — including those lawyers and their clients — will get to see the information.

'My god!' Merrick Garland shocked when GOP’s Marsha Blackburn asks if angry parents are like Timothy McVeigh

The Tennessee Republican, like her GOP colleagues before her, questioned Garland over his Oct. 4 memo directing the Department of Justice to investigate threats against school officials over critical race theory and coronavirus safety measures, but her question surprised the attorney general.

"I have to tell you that it is with much disappointment that I have watched the DOJ be so politicized," Blackburn said, "and the way things have been carried out when you look at the memo to parents, you heard a lot about that today, and it's because we're hearing a lot about that, and I just have to ask you, knowing that you really helped bring to justice those that caused the Oklahoma City bombings, would you really, honestly put parents in the same category as a Terry Nichols or a Timothy McVeigh?"

Garland was aghast at the suggestion.

"My god, absolutely not," he said...........................................
