A CIA Report Shows Trump Abandoned His Duty as Commander in Chief

A CIA Report Shows Trump Abandoned His Duty as Commander in Chief
The agency had to trick Trump into paying attention to intelligence.

The CIA is too polite to say this directly, but it has issued a report that shows that Donald Trump, while obsessing over his efforts to overturn the 2020 election, abandoned one of his primary duties as president: to stay fully informed about potential threats to the nation.

This indictment comes from the agency’s Center for the Study of Intelligence, which produces scholarly papers and histories related to intelligence. Many (but not all) are publicly released, and they can be academic and a bit esoteric. There’s “How We Identified the Technical Problems of Early Soviet Nuclear Submarines,” “Scandinavians as Agents,” or “The Metals Traces Test.” But the CSI also generates work relevant to current intelligence issues—and that includes the question of what happens when a president doesn’t care about intelligence.

Days ago, the CSI released a revised edition of Getting to Know the President: Intelligence Briefings of Presidential Candidates and Presidents-Elect, 1952-2016. And what makes this edition new is that it includes a chapter on the 45th president that is titled, “Donald J. Trump—A Unique Challenge.”

The book is authored by John Helgerson, a veteran CIA intelligence officer who served as the agency’s inspector general in the George W. Bush administration. During those years, he investigated the CIA’s use of torture and wrote a classified report (released years later) criticizing the agency for these interrogation practices and noting the CIA might have violated international law. And now Helgerson, in a gentle way, is warning the public about a man who served in the White House and who might once again try to occupy the Oval Office.

Helgerson, one can tell, bends over backward to be fair to the former guy.
He notes that during some intelligence briefings, Trump—as presidential candidate, president-elect, and president—listened attentively and was generally respectful toward the briefers dispatched by the intelligence community. But the bottom line is that Trump didn’t pay close attention to intelligence. This is no newsflash. After all, Trump once said that he was his own best foreign policy adviser “because I have a very good brain.”

William Hartmann left talks with Monica Palmer as the Wayne County Board of Canvassers meets to certify the election results. After what was an unprecedented 2-2 deadlock along partisan lines, with the two Republican members of the Wayne County Board of Canvassers voting against certifying the county's November election results, the board unanimously voted to certify the results late Tuesday night.

William Hartmann, the Republican member of the Wayne County Board of Canvassers who made national headlines for initially refusing to certify the results of the 2020 presidential election, died Tuesday following a battle with COVID-19.

Douglas Reimel, Hartmann’s friend, shared the news on Facebook, and others who knew Hartmann offered their condolences online. Hartmann was 63.

Hartmann had been on a ventilator in the ICU, according to a Facebook post from Elizabeth Hartmann, his sister. He was hospitalized at Henry Ford Wyandotte Hospital, according to Reimel.

Hartmann's death comes amid the latest coronavirus surge in Michigan that has filled hospital beds across the state. Michigan remains the nation's worst COVID-19 hot spot, leading the country in cases in recent weeks, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Preventio..................................

She was the school principal for 16 years. Until she hung up a rainbow flag.

The school lowered the flag after she was removed from the position.
By Bil Browning Thursday, December 2, 2021

Mary Kay Thomas was a middle school principal in southwest Minnesota for 16 years. But when administrators hung a rainbow flag in the school cafeteria, the religious right started howling for her head.

..............................

Thomas hadn’t actually done anything wrong by hanging the flag and after a small group of “anti-LGBTQ middle-school staff, parents, students, and local clergy” complained, she handed out rainbow stickers to students that wanted them to show solidarity with queer kids.

While they couldn’t fire her, they hounded her until she quit, she alleges.

...........................

She says the district launched an investigation into “nonspecific workplace allegations” that should have lasted a week or two, but dragged on for months. She was placed on administrative leave and suspended without pay.

OXFORD, Michigan—Detailed descriptions of a wish to massacre classmates on his cell-phone and in a journal. At least one social-media post pointing to elation at access to a handgun. And a meeting between his parents and school administrators about his conduct just hours before the attack.

Authorities on Wednesday identified the teenage suspect in the mass shooting a day earlier at Michigan’s Oxford High School as 15-year-old Ethan Crumbley, painting a picture of a clear-eyed teen who planned and executed a rampage that left at least four students dead and seven others, a teacher among them, injured.

Crumbley, a sophomore, was previously flagged by administrators for “behavior in the classroom that they felt was concerning,” Oakland County Sheriff Mike Bouchard said Wednesday. His parents had even been brought into the school the morning of the shooting for a face-to-face meeting about their son’s behavior, according to Bouchard. He wouldn’t say what the behavior was, and police weren’t informed about any potential issues prior to the tragic event.

Oakland County prosecutor Karen McDonald said that Crumbley, who was arraigned late Wednesday afternoon via video with his parents on the line, has been charged as an adult with one count of terrorism, four counts of first-degree murder, seven counts of assault with intent to murder, and 12 counts of possession of a firearm. More charges may be added later, she said............................

As Wisconsin Passes 9,000 COVID Deaths, Hospital Bed Shortage Foreshadows a Grim Future

As Wisconsin has reached the grim milestone of 9,000 COVID-19-related deaths, an ongoing shortage of hospital beds is impacting patient care efforts and in some cases could endanger people’s lives, hospital officials said.

Smaller hospitals without intensive care unit (ICU) beds typically transfer patients, including those critically ill with COVID-19, to larger sites with ICUs. However, that often isn’t possible as the number of COVID-19 hospitalizations has increased in recent weeks, meaning beds at larger hospitals are full too. Statewide, 1,418 patients are hospitalized with the virus, including 393 requiring ICU-level care.

Staff at northern Wisconsin hospitals say they are increasingly unable to transfer patients requiring ICU care because hospitals with those services are already full. That is the case at Western Wisconsin Health in the St. Croix County community of Baldwin, hospital CEO Alison Page said. On Sunday, she said, she called 25 hospitals in Wisconsin, Minnesota, and North Dakota seeking an ICU bed for a COVID-19 patient but was unable to find one.

“High-level intensive care units are currently overwhelmed with COVID-19 patients,” Page said. “The inability to get really sick people to the level of care they need is causing bad things to happen and people to die.”

For us older women that have been through it, it’s heartbreaking. I’ve been active since the 70s with Planned Parenthood. Devoted a lot of time and energy so my daughters would know a more equal society. I’m feeling this hard. Give me today to grieve. But tomorrow we fight.

Suspect charged in Michigan school shooting, 4th student dies

The latest: Ethan Crumbley will be charged as an adult. The charges were announced shortly after officials said a fourth person died as a result of the shooting at Oxford High School in Oakland County, about 30 miles north of Detroit.

Crumbley remains in custody. Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard said that investigators had not yet determined a motive for the shooting. "The person that's got the most insight and the motive is not talking," Bouchard said Tuesday night.

Crumbley has been charged with one count of terrorism, four counts of murder, seven counts of assault with intent to murder, Oakland County prosecutor Karen D. McDonald said. He will be arraigned later Wednesday.

Students Hana St. Juliana, 14, Madisyn Baldwin, 17, and Tate Myre, 16, were confirmed Tuesday to have died in the shooting. Myre died in a patrol car on his way to the hospital, Bouchard said.

Police say the 15 year old who killed 3 students and wounded 8 people at Oxford High School used a 9mm Sig Sauer handgun that his father bought on Friday. Truly a Black Friday purchase. The sophomore is not speaking with authorities and his family is hiring an attorney.
