Bless Joe Biden....

Former Vice President Joe Biden comforted Meghan McCain on “The View” Wednesday after the panelist and daughter of Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) became emotional while discussing her father’s brain cancer diagnosis.

McCain’s father was diagnosed earlier this year with the same cancer that killed Biden’s son Beau Biden in 2015. Biden appeared on "The View" to promote his new memoir, “Promise Me, Dad," which focuses on his late son, who served as Delaware's attorney general.

“I couldn’t get through your book, I tried,” McCain said, tearing up. “I think about Beau almost every day, and I was told that this doesn’t get easier.”

Biden moved from his spot at the other end of the table to sit beside McCain and take her hand while he spoke about his close friendship with her father and Beau Biden’s admiration for the senator, whom he first met as a young man.

Crazy Louie Gohmert....

GOP Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX) has never been accused of being the smartest guy in the room, but even his conspiracy theories make you wonder what alternate reality he lives in. On Monday night, just after he and Steve Bannon held a rally for accused child molester Roy Moore, Gohmert said on “Breitbart News Tonight” that Christians were very lucky Hillary Clinton didn’t win the presidency, because if she had, they would all be in jail right now.

“If Hillary were elected and then she replaces [Antonin] Scalia with someone who has contempt for the God we know rules the universe, and our freedom of religion would have been gone. They consider Christians a hate group, even though it’s the one true religion based on ‘God so loved the world he gave his son. His son so loved the world he gave his life,’ and they have turned that upside down. They were going to be coming after Christians with the help of then a 5-4 Supreme Court,” Gohmert said.

Clinton’s persecution of Christians may have even landed him in jail, he said he told his wife.

...Mr. Bannon is for losers...

A new report suggests that Breitbart boss Steve Bannon is unbowed by the humiliating defeat of his chosen candidate, Roy Moore, in the Alabama Senate race.

A “source close to Bannon” tells Bloomberg TV reporter Kevin Cirilli that the former Trump political strategist is as determined as ever to wage war against the Republican establishment, which includes plans to run multiple insurgent primary challengers against GOP incumbents in 2018.

“This doesn’t stop Steve’s war against the establishment, all it does is pour gasoline on top of it,” the source tells Cirilli.

The right-wing Wall Street Journal editorial page on Wednesday called out Bannon for his decision to back Moore’s campaign, and warned Republican donors and voters against supporting Bannon-backed insurgent candidates in the future.

“The Alabama result shows that Mr. Bannon cares less about conservative policy victories than he does personal king-making,” the editors wrote. “He wants to depose Mitch McConnell as Majority Leader even if it costs Republicans Senate control. GOP voters, take note: Mr. Bannon is for losers.”

Robert Reich...

Many of you tell me that Trump and his Republican enablers are causing you more stress than you’ve ever felt before. You despair of what has happened to our democracy and our decency.

You are not alone.

I urge you to remember this date: November 6, 2018. It’s when 33 senate seats, all 435 seats in the House of Representatives and 14 governorships will be up for election or re-election. Many of your state and local representatives will also be decided upon.

Please put this date on your calendars now. And fight like hell to make sure good people are elected or re-elected – people who will resist Trump’s lies, bigotry, attacks on our Constitution, and favors to the new American oligarchy. People who will push for Trump’s removal from office. Leaders who will lay the foundation for a new era of widespread prosperity and responsive democracy.

In the meantime, stay in touch with your Senators and Representatives. Make your voice heard. Share your concerns weekly or daily at 202-224-3121.

It's entirely up to us.

Russian sanctions.....Right...

The State Department shuttered an office that oversees sanctions policy, even as the Donald Trump administration faced criticism from lawmakers over its handling of new economic penalties against Russia.

Secretary of State Rex Tillerson eliminated the Coordinator for Sanctions Policy office, which had been led by a veteran ambassador-rank diplomat with at least five staff, as part of an overhaul of the department, former diplomats and congressional sources told Foreign Policy.

Instead, the role of coordinating U.S. sanctions across the State Department and other government agencies now falls to just one mid-level official — David Tessler, the deputy director of the Policy Planning Office. The Policy Planning Office, which previously operated as a small team providing strategic advice to the secretary but did not manage programs or initiatives, has grown in power under Tillerson’s “redesign” of the department.

While the sanctions office was dissolved, the administration missed a key Oct. 1 deadline to implement new penalties against Russia adopted by Congress in August. The move reinforced concerns among both Democratic and Republican lawmakers that the Trump White House is mismanaging the State Department and undercutting the role of U.S. diplomacy.

5 facts about illegal immigration in the U.S.

For the first time, the number of unauthorized immigrants living in the U.S. was lower in 2015 than it was at the end of the Great Recession in 2009. The origin countries of unauthorized immigrants also shifted during that time, with the number from Mexico declining and the number from other regions rising, according to the latest.
