Senator Warren on the Trans-Pacific Partnership Trade Agreement

Tweet from Senator Elizabeth Warren on March 11, 2015:

100+ law profs agree: A #TPP trade deal with ISDS would undermine US sovereignty. Watch my floor speech why:

Senator Elizabeth Warren spoke on the Senate floor on February 26, 2015 about the Investor-State Dispute Settlement provision in the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) trade agreement.

I want to have a discussion here about how to overhaul law enforcement locally

I was thinking we could discuss the best way to approach it and to figure out how to implement the changes.

Because I believe this is one of the most important things of our time, I would really like to have as many people in the discussion as possible. We need to bring real change.

I was thinking I would start a post at 11:00am CDT Saturday. That way more people can contribute and it gives us time to figure out what we want to offer.

I hope everyone can join in.

Peace!

It's Equal Pay Day. Time to make it happen!

Yes, ladies and gentlemen, in 53 years women's rights have pretty much gone nowhere. It's been over 100 years since the ERA was introduced and passed. 3 States held it back. Three. Three misogynistic States.

Today's email from Terry O'Neil

Dear Mary,

In 1963, President John F. Kennedy signed the Equal Pay Act into law. Fast forward 52 years, and we're still far from equality. For women to make as much money as men did in 2014, they’d have to work until today – April 14.

The Paycheck Fairness Act (S. 862 / H.R. 1619) would bring us one step closer to equal pay for equal work. Tell your senators and representative to show their support today!

On average, women are paid 78 cents to every dollar a white man makes. If you're a woman of color, it's even worse: African American women are paid 64 cents, and Latinas just 54 cents, to every white man's dollar. Over a woman's working lifetime, she will be cheated out of $700,000-$2,000,000 in income due to the wage gap.

Write to your senators and representative to let them know you won't stand for this inequality!

The wage gap not only affects women's spending power and the economic well-being of their families, it penalizes their retirement security by creating gaps in Social Security benefits, pension amounts and their ability to save and invest.

At this rate, this year's high school graduates will be 61 by the time the wage gap closes. It's time for Congress to stand up for women's economic justice - starting by closing the gender and gender/race pay gaps that continue to hold women back.

When women have economic security, women succeed. And when women succeed, the world succeeds. Urge your senators and representative to support the Paycheck Fairness Act today! http://action.now.org/p/dia/action3/common/public/?action_KEY=11158&tag=2015EqualPayDay

CALL YOUR SENATORS RIGHT FUCKING NOW!

I hope I got that right.

I am calling my Senators and Representative every day until something is done about the militarization of police. I will start emailing them tomorrow, and every day after.

I think we all should. This insanity needs to stop. Though it is only part of the problem, it's a big part of the problem.

Thank you

Martin O'Malley

Looks like the announcement may be very soon. From an email I just received I realize he's looking for donations here but I still like the message. Though not really thrilled with the "In God we trust. " part but they're all going to go there.

Email from O'Malley:

During my travels to Iowa last week, and New Hampshire the week before, I was amazed by the activists I met, and humbled by the enthusiastic crowds that greeted me at every stop.

Repeatedly, voters told me that they want an open and frank conversation about the future of our party and our country. One of the many great things about the people of Iowa and New Hampshire is that they take seriously and personally their responsibility to vet anyone offering themselves for higher office.

Here is a short video so you can see first hand what I am seeing on the ground.

There are moments in our history when new leadership is needed to move our country forward. This is one of them.

I am encouraged and look forward to the road ahead.

Question about DU going down

Is this something that can be controlled and there's a glitch? Or is someone trying to hack and/or attack DU?

I saw it was said that "Our ISP had some kind of network issue." Quoting Skinner. But I have absolutely no clue what that means.

What if another country decided to start a war here to save us from inhumane treatment?

I was just wondering about the way we would respond to a country that shoots its own, unarmed citizens at the same rate we do. That has the incarceration rate we do. That has the torture in prisons we do. That allows its children to starve like we do when we spend billions on political campaigns, like we do. That advocates torture and allows those responsible for it to both walk free and gain monetarily, like we do. That spies on its own citizens without warrant or justification, like we do. That jails journalists that report truth, like we do. That jails whistle blowers, tech savvy activists, women for controlling their bodies, debtors and others that should never be incarcerated, like we do. That advocates hate against minorities, like we do.

Would we sit idly by? We would impose sanctions? Would we start a coup while remaining in dark background? Would we start a war?

We have no room to judge anyone with our house in such disarray.
