chocolatpi's JournalVadimir Putin Sits Atop a Crumbling Pyramid of Power
An excellent article that begins with a history going back to the 1600s. Ive included only a snip at the end of a very long and worthwhile read, imo.

Vadimir Putin Sits Atop a Crumbling Pyramid of Power
2/27/22

...snip
Putins inner monster wasnt just brought up by our Pyramid of Power and the corrupt Russian elite, to whom Putin, like the tsar to the satraps, throws fat, juicy bits of corruption from his table.
It was also cultivated by the approval of irresponsible western politicians, cynical businessmen, and corrupt journalists and political scientists.
A strong and consistent ruler! This bewitched them. A new Russian tsar was, for them, something like Russian vodka and caviar: invigorating!
During this period of time, I met many admirers of Putin in Germany, from taxi drivers to businessmen and professors. One aged participant in the student revolution of 68 confessed:
I really like your Putin!
And why exactly is that?
Hes strong. Tells the truth. And hes against America. Not like the slugs weve got here.
And it doesnt bother you that, in Russia, theres monstrous corruption, there are practically no elections or independent courts, the opposition is being destroyed, the provinces are impoverished, Nemtsov was murdered, and TVs become propaganda?
No. Those are your internal affairs. If Russians accept all of that and dont protest, that must mean they like Putin.
Ironclad logic. The experience of Germany in the 30s didnt seem to have taught such Europeans anything.

Still I Rise by Maya Angelou 1928-2014
You may write me down in history
With your bitter, twisted lies,
You may trod me in the very dirt
But still, like dust, Ill rise.
Does my sassiness upset you?
Why are you beset with gloom?
Cause I walk like Ive got oil wells
Pumping in my living room.
Just like moons and like suns,
With the certainty of tides,
Just like hopes springing high,
Still Ill rise.
Did you want to see me broken?
Bowed head and lowered eyes?
Shoulders falling down like teardrops,
Weakened by my soulful cries?
Does my haughtiness offend you?
Dont you take it awful hard
Cause I laugh like Ive got gold mines
Diggin in my own backyard.
You may shoot me with your words,
You may cut me with your eyes,
You may kill me with your hatefulness,
But still, like air, Ill rise.
Does my sexiness upset you?
Does it come as a surprise
That I dance like Ive got diamonds
At the meeting of my thighs?
Out of the huts of historys shame
I rise
Up from a past thats rooted in pain
I rise
Im a black ocean, leaping and wide,
Welling and swelling I bear in the tide.
Leaving behind nights of terror and fear
I rise
Into a daybreak thats wondrously clear
I rise
Bringing the gifts that my ancestors gave,
I am the dream and the hope of the slave.
I rise
I rise
I rise.
Shout out to CNN
I've been watching CNN in the mornings for years. These are the people that keep me coming back:
Poppy Harlow, Jim Scuitto, Jim Accosta, and
Brianna Keiler
I always cringe when I read a post that blames all media journalists for political woes.
