Doctors for Bernie: Statement on COVID-19

https://twitter.com/Docs_4_Bernie/status/1247218520200364032

Our current crisis reveals the interconnected nature of humanity. We are only as healthy as the most vulnerable members of society. A “healthcare” system that treats healthcare as a commodity to be profited upon, rather than a collective responsibility to serve our fellow human beings, is a failure to our public health and common humanity. This system is intrinsically at odds with the oaths we swore. We deserve better, all of us.

"Bernie Sanders: Still Ahead of His Time"

Apr 1, 2020

This video from RootsAction points to why Sanders is the strongest candidate to take on the coronavirus pandemic.

A video released Thursday by progressive advocacy organization RootsAction uses decades of archival footage to show that the deadly coronavirus pandemic has—in just a matter of weeks—vindicated Sen. Bernie Sanders' career-long support for Medicare for All and sweeping economic change.

"They're basic problems in our political and economic system that Bernie Sanders has been correctly diagnosing his entire career."
—Norman Solomon, RootsAction

The two-minute clip features footage dating back to 1987 of Sanders, today a 2020 Democratic presidential candidate, warning about the "crisis of affordable healthcare" and urging the U.S. government take steps to "protect the American people and people throughout the world" from a possible global outbreak on the scale of the 1918 Spanish flu epidemic.

"Voters are watching in real time as Bernie Sanders' platform—Medicare for All, a federal housing guarantee, paid leave for everyone, and much else—is looking more and more like a common-sense solution to huge problems," Jeff Cohen, co-founder of RootsAction.org, said in a statement.

"With 27 states and territories left to cast their votes [in the 2020 Democratic presidential primary]," said Cohen, "we believe that it's important to deliver this message as widely as possible."

Democrat Sanders calls on Wisconsin to postpone Tuesday primary

APRIL 1, 2020 / 12:19 PM

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders on Wednesday called on Wisconsin to postpone its April 7 primary, citing the risk from the novel coronavirus.

“People should not be forced to put their lives on the line to vote, which is why 15 states are now following the advice of public health experts and delaying their elections,” Sanders said in a statement. “We urge Wisconsin to join them.”

BERNIE SANDERS SUPPORTERS DONATE OVER $181,000 TO THE AGMA RELIEF FUND

Published March 30, 2020 | By Alicia Cook | Post in All Areas

Excerpt:

Bernie Sanders' Campaign recently announced it would rally donors for coronavirus relief. Last week, The AGMA Relief Fund was named in the second wave of the call for donations, among a handful of groups “providing critical support during this crisis.”

For seven days, Bernie Sanders supporters were encouraged via text message, email, and social media interaction to contribute what they could, noting that donations (unless the donor stated otherwise) would be divided evenly between The AGMA Relief Fund and nine other charities.

Thanks to this effort, The AGMA Relief Fund saw over $181,000 in donations enter the Fund. This influx comes at a time the Fund needs it the most, with the number of requests for assistance in the last two weeks eclipsing what the Relief Fund had seen in the last three years combined.

"Thank you, Senator Sanders, for your recognition and support of the performing arts and artists,” said Ray Menard, AGMA President and AGMA Relief Fund Trustee. “Your advocacy for the health and well-being of workers sets a great example of leadership in this time of crisis. Your supporters have made an immediate difference in the lives of so many AGMA artists."
