Larry Sanders traveling with Bernie on U.K. book tour

Excerpt:

Bernie will be heading to Brighton Festival on June 1, Cambridge Union, Oxford Sheldonian and Brixton Academy on June 2, plus Bristol Festival of Ideas and Hay Festival on June 3.

His brother Larry, the Green Party candidate for the Oxford East constituency, said it “will be lovely” to spend time with his Democratic socialist sibling during his three-day trip.

“All the venues are very big and very sold-out – fortunately, the family are getting free tickets,” said Mr Sanders, who lives in Oxford.

“I will certainly be at the Oxford one. I am going to go to Bristol too, but I won’t probably sit in the audience, and I will drive with him to Hay so we will have a chance to be together and to talk. It will be lovely.”

Bernie Back in Brooklyn

Excerpt:

POSTED BY: PAUL FRANGIPANE, DYLAN CAMPBELL AUGUST 24, 2016
Brooklyn College alumnus, Bernie Sanders made a surprise visit to the college on Friday where he attracted a crowd of students and faculty, roamed around and signed a nearly 60-year-old letter that he wrote to a former Kingsman editor.

An old letter to an editor of The Kingsman, written by Sanders in his time at the college resurfaced and was signed by the candidate on Friday. Nancy Strein, associate director of digital at the Office of Communications and Marketing framed the letter that is now waiting in her office to be hung in an appropriate location.

The letter showcases a young Sanders opposing the administrative decision to ban students from touching the grass in the lawn between Boylan and Ingersoll Halls.

Sanders was filming for his campaign with actor, Mark Ruffalo before his rally at his former school, James Madison High. While on campus, Sanders was responsible for a digital storm on the Brooklyn College Facebook page, “BC In the Know.” The page blew up with videos, pictures and exclamations from students that spotted Sanders for themselves. At that point it became a race to see Sanders in the flesh.

How Bernie Sanders brand isnt damaged, but rather enhanced, by Rob Quist and Heath Mellos defeats

Excerpt:

By endorsing Mello and Quist, Sanders wasn’t just doing it because he wanted them to obviously win. He was doing it because they represented the model of candidates he believes best align with the domestic visions and beliefs he’s long held. He is fully cognizant of how campaigning heavily in places national Democrats have long abandoned or given sparse attention to, and potentially winning them, will be an arduous process. He didn’t have to put his name on the line for these people, as they have all to gain with his public endorsement. And he has all to possibly lose lending his name like this. But this doesn’t damage Sanders’ popularity. Rather, it enhances his authenticity.

Looking at the big picture and not a small snapshot is what Sanders’s genuine brand is about. And by solely analyzing these two defeats as a major negative for him, one misses out on realizing a valuable trait that has made Bernie Sanders a cherished national figure that local election defeats can’t easily extinguish.

Jeremy Corbyn hoping for Bernie Sanders election endorsement

Excerpts:

In an interview with the Guardian, Corbyn said he had “a lot of time for Bernie”. Asked if Sanders would endorse him when he visited Britain, the Labour leader said: “I can’t say. I hope he will. I think he probably will, actually. But we mustn’t predict these things.”

The party leader added that members of the Sanders campaign team were already helping Labour, with others expected to arrive over the next few weeks. “We are in touch with Bernie’s team,” Corbyn said. “They are over here helping us. We also, during the leadership campaign, looked at a lot of their campaigning methods and again some people came over and and gave us advice.”

Sanders’ volunteers are also helping Momentum, the grassroots organisation that grew out of Corbyn’s two leadership contests. One of the first of them to arrive, Erika Uyterhoeven, flew in from Boston on Friday and spent the day helping with training, before heading out on Saturday to canvass in a north London marginal seat.

As one of the national organising directors for Sanders, Uyterhoeven, 30, was responsible for bringing in volunteers to help in the battleground states for the Democratic nomination. “When I started on the Bernie campaign, we were more than 20 points down nationally and we walked away with the largest margin of victory for the first primary in the nation New Hampshire,” she said.
