NOAA Advises Public to Avoid Aggressive Dolphin in North Padre Island

May 26, 2022

The dolphin has become accustomed to humans and is now displaying dangerous behavior. It should be avoided at all costs.

The situation for a habituated dolphin off North Padre Island, Texas is dire, threatening both human safety and the animal’s life. Biologists report the animal is showing more aggressive behavior, separating children from their parents in the water, and isolating swimming pets from their owners.

Human interaction is to blame for the dolphin’s increasingly aggressive behavior. For more than a year, biologists, law enforcement, and residents of the area have discouraged people from feeding, swimming, or interacting with the dolphin. While some have heeded the warnings, others continue to seek out the animal.

The dolphin has become so used to humans that it now seeks out people, boats, and any form of interaction. In addition to the concerns for human safety, the dolphin has wounds caused by boats and there are concerns for the dolphin’s safety with increased watercraft activity over the upcoming holiday weekend.

Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization - 5th Court of Appeals..Huh???

In March 2018, the state of Mississippi passed the Gestational Age Act, which banned any abortion operation after the first 15 weeks of pregnancy, with exceptions for medical emergencies or severe fetal abnormality, but did not include any exceptions for cases of rape or incest. Governor Phil Bryant signed the bill into law, saying: "I am committed to making Mississippi the safest place in America for an unborn child, and this bill will help us achieve that goal."[7] On the bill, he further stated: "We'll probably be sued here in about a half hour, and that'll be fine with me. It is worth fighting over."[7]

Within a day of passage, the sole remaining abortion clinic in the state, Jackson Women's Health Organization, sued the state challenging the constitutionality of the bill.[7] The Center for Reproductive Rights supported the clinic in its legal defense.[8] The case was heard by Judge Carlton W. Reeves of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Mississippi. In November 2018, Reeves ruled for the clinic and placed an injunction on the state enjoining them from enforcing the Act. Reeves stated that based on evidence that viability of the fetus begins between 23 and 24 weeks, Mississippi had "no legitimate state interest strong enough, prior to viability, to justify a ban on abortions".[8] The state appealed to the Fifth Circuit, which upheld Reeves' ruling in a 3–0 decision in December 2019. Senior Circuit Judge for the Fifth Circuit Patrick Higginbotham wrote in his opinion, in upholding Roe v. Wade, that "States may regulate abortion procedures prior to viability so long as they do not impose an undue burden on the woman's right, but they may not ban abortions".[9] A request for an en banc rehearing was denied.[10]

In February 2020, a few months after upholding the injunction on the Gestational Age Act ruling, in a per curiam decision, the Fifth Circuit also upheld an injunction against a second Mississippi abortion law which was aimed to block abortions at the detection of a fetus's heartbeat, which nominally could be from 6 to 12 weeks into pregnancy, known as the heartbeat bill. The injunction was also issued by Reeves, in May 2019.[11] The Fifth Circuit's rationale followed similar rationale to the injunction against the Gestational Age Act: while it is true that a fetal heartbeat can happen as early as six weeks into term, this is still well before the fetus could be considered viable. The Circuit Court opinion wrote "If a ban on abortion after 15 weeks is unconstitutional, then it follows that a ban on abortion at an earlier stage of pregnancy is also unconstitutional."[12]

The Fifth Court of Appeals, always sides with the cons. Higginbotham is a Republican.
The District Judge, Reeves is an Obama appointee.

I'm surprised that a judge on the Fifth Court supported Roe V Wade. (However Higginbotham may be a moderate) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patrick_Higginbotham

Sorry, I just didn't follow this case in the lower courts. I had assumed the Fifth had supported Mississippi, the entire time.

Supreme Court might Never Recover From Overturning Roe Vs Wade

https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2022/05/03/supreme-court-might-never-recover-overturning-roe-v-wade/

But the draft ruling’s dreadful reasoning and extreme potential consequences are far more concerning than what the leak says about the court’s internal dynamics. Written by Justice Samuel A. Alito Jr., the document would declare Roe “egregiously wrong,” obliterate its guarantees of reproductive choice and empower lawmakers to abridge at will this long-held right.

The court’s legitimacy rests on the notion that it follows the law, not the personal or ideological preferences of the justices who happen to serve on it at any given time. Americans rely on the court to exercise care and restraint against making sharp turns that might suddenly declare their everyday choices and activities unprotected or illegal. Over the course of nearly half a century, the court not only issued Roe but upheld its bedrock principles against later challenges. Throughout, the original 1973 decision enjoyed broad and unwavering public support. What brought the court to its current precipice was not a fundamental shift in American values regarding abortion. It was the shameless legislative maneuvering of Senate GOP leader Mitch McConnell (Ky.), who jammed three Trump-nominated justices onto the court.

How Henry Cuellar's political career survived its toughest challenge yet

We don't know the outcome of this race...

It is more than likely going to runoff. It depends on who shows up to the runoff. If Bexar County shows up, Jessica Cisneros wins. If the Laredo area shows up, Cuellar wins.

Sharing the article because it points to the peculiarities of Democrats and voters in the Rio Grande Valley. The Rio Grande Valley is not a progressive area. It's Democratic, but it's conservative Democratic. It always has been. Republicans are aware of this and using this a basis to convert voters to Republican.

It also is not a pro-immigration area.

https://sanantonioreport.org/opinion-henry-cuellar-political-career-toughest-challenge-yet/

As someone who grew up in Laredo, I know its peculiarities. Ever since I can remember, Laredo votes Democrat but not liberal, supports social programs but maintains a social conservatism. Its body politic leans heavily into a Catholic ethos. In short, Laredo contains multitudes.

Cuellar is one of the last of a dying breed in the U.S. Congress but who occupy an outsize role in current affairs: So-called Blue Dog Democrats are an anachronism in today’s political climate, a relic of the party’s past. They occupy the space just to the right of center, much like Lyndon B. Johnson before the Great Society and Civil Rights Act.

Dallas couple wrongly accused of abuse gets their kids back, 7 months and $300,000 later

But the combination of the initial diagnoses — the brain bleed, plus fractured ribs, plus a retinal hemorrhage — made the doctors think the child was a victim of “shaken baby syndrome,” which kills between 1,000 and 3,000 children each year. Child Protective Services got involved, and a social worker directed Gabe to bring their family’s other two children in.

A pediatric abuse specialist went on to classify Mickey’s injuries as potentially stemming from abuse, and all three children were taken from the parents and placed in the foster care system.

Within days, doctors walked-back the diagnosis of broken bones, saying the only injury was the brain bleed.

The Ederys hired four pediatric neurology experts to examine the medical evidence. The doctors concluded that Mickey, a twin born prematurely, had slight head trauma from delivery that caused a fluid buildup inside his skull that ultimately caused the brain bleed.

Good grief...a premie.....brain bleeds are common with premies...
The poor family...And they had tons of advocacy!
This makes me mad as heck!

FBI agents descended on Democratic U.S. Rep. Henry Cuellar's house, but won't say what they're inves

The FBI was on the scene Wednesday near the Laredo home of U.S. Rep. Henry Cuellar for what authorities described as a court-authorized ongoing investigation.

FBI spokesperson Rosanne Hughes confirmed law enforcement’s presence in the area but did not clarify what authorities were investigating.

Hughes said in a statement that the FBI was present on two streets around Cuellar’s house in Laredo “conducting court-authorized law enforcement activity.”

“The FBI cannot provide further comment on an ongoing investigation,” she said.

Little Afghan refugee child has been abducted

SAN ANTONIO — As authorities continue their around-the-clock search for a missing 3-year-old girl who vanished from an apartment complex playground Monday afternoon, her father says he and his wife "have not slept at all" during the ordeal.

Speaking to KENS 5's Henry Ramos through a translator Tuesday evening, Riaz Sardar Khil thanked searchers for their ongoing efforts in looking for Lina Sardar Khil, whose disappearance led to the issuing of an AMBER Alert Monday night.

"During our entire lives we have not been as saddened as we were yesterday and today," Khil said through his translator before getting emotional.

Khil said Lina's mother was watching her on the playground of their northwest-San Antonio complex when the little girl made her way to a nearby path and suddenly disappeared. Her mother thought she may have returned to their apartment unit, but when she didn't find her there either a search ensued.

"There were other children and adults at the playground area at the time of the disappearance."

Before everyone blames rednecks and Qanon, this was at an apartment complex where many immigrants and refugees live. The apartments are mostly low income. It is an immigrant/refugee community. As a matter of fact, just last week someone told me about the resettlement office and these apartment communities. It's over near Ali Baba, numerous Middle East and Indian restaurants and grocery stores and the UTHSC. The little girl was playing outside and her mother, who is pregnant went inside. When she came out, her little girl was gone. (My guess is it is someone who lives in the apartment complex)

Human remains found 40 years ago identified as member of The O'Jays R&B band

(CNN)Partial human remains found in a garbage bag nearly 40 years ago have been identified as belonging to Frank "Frankie" Little Jr, a member of the R&B band The O'Jays, according to police.

The Twinsburg Police Department in Ohio announced the news on Tuesday, saying DNA from relatives was used to help identify the remains found on February 18, 1982. Police said that not much is known about Little's disappearance and death.

Little was raised in Cleveland, according to the news release. In the mid-'60s, he was a guitarist and songwriter for The O'Jays. The band released a statement to CNN saying that he was part of the band in the early days and that they haven't heard from him since.

"He came with us when we first ventured out of Cleveland and traveled to Los Angeles, but he also was in love with a woman in Cleveland that he missed so much that he soon returned back to Cleveland after a short amount of time," reads the statement.

A better article:
TWINSBURG, Ohio — Human remains discovered in Twinsburg in 1982 have now been identified as those of Frank “Frankie” Little, Jr., who was a guitarist and songwriter for the R&B band The O’Jays, as a result of genealogical research from the DNA Doe Project.

Little was born in Cleveland in 1943 and raised here. In the mid-1960s, he was a guitarist and songwriter for The O’Jays. He also served in the U.S. Army for two years, including a deployment to Vietnam during the Vietnam War.

“Frankie was a member of the band in the 1960s,” Hendershott said. “He played guitar with the band in the studio and on tours.”

Little was last known to reside in Cleveland, and it is believed he was last alive in the mid-1970s. Not much is known about his disappearance or death.

What I learned:
The O'Jays formed way back in 1958
Little was with the group in the early 60's
The group went to California.
Little didn't went to be in California and went home to be with his GF (The band probably lost touch with him shortly after)
Little went to Vietnam
He was last seen in the late 70s
His body was dumped what appears to be a rural area.

You wonder what he did with himself from the time he left the O'Jays until the time he disappeared? You wonder what happened with his girlfriend? Was he drafted? What was life like for him after Vietnam?
Everyone has a story. He had a brush with fame, which draws our interest, but everyone has a story.

Whoever killed him, knew him. We wonder what happened to meet such as gruesome end.

So many questions about a life cut tragically short...

About LeftInTX

Always a Democrat. I can't understand conservatives. I try to understand them, but I can't. They don't make sense. Our country has gone so far right since 1981. I was just an average American who took many Democratic values for granted when Reagan was elected. It was like the rug was pulled out from under our society. Reagan ruined our country.
