No Vested Interest
No Vested Interest's JournalYes, we have seen a lot, but I believe, while relishing the times in which we lived, we can never
go back nor should we wish to.
We saw WWII, FDR, Harry Truman (who was most unpopular when he left office, though he's considered a hero today), the Eisenhower days, when our current highway system was and other infrastructure was constructed, (though I was an ardent Adlai Stevenson fan).
Brokenhearted when our President JFK was assassinated, and our world did changed significantly after that.
The chaos of our current administration is so clearly dysfunctional and we've learned in our many years that orderliness does indeed bring a more serene life, so that we can go about the matters that mean the most to us, without constantly being distracted.
Nice, but this was needed a week ago!
I love your headline. - Sure to get many clicks from those with no interest whatsoever
in genealogy!
Were the millions of Houstonians offered food and shelter elsewhere?
It seems to me that many interviewed in Houston, Rockport and other low-lying areas said they didn't have the money to get out.
Who was offering to put them and feed them? I didn't hear that, did you?
I'd prefer McAullife/Booker, though I'm still open to someone we haven't even thought of yet. nt
His marriage was not mentioned in the movie; perhaps that was his or her wish not to be
included in the CNN film. I hope they are still together.
One aspect mentioned in the CNN movie (an aspect I had never thought of or heard mentioned)
is that there were many Cuban Democrats in Miami before the Elian incident, but afterward, Miami
Cubans all became Republican, and the 2000 election in Florida, which was decided by ca 10,000 votes, may have turned on the Elian Gonzalez case.
I had never heard this postulated before, and found it very interesting.
The CNN movie "Elian", which played last night and will replay on that network,
was very well done. Many scenes from the actual time period - 1999-2000, as well as present day interviews, including Elian Gonzalez and his father Juan Michael Gonzalez, his cousin Marisleysis Gonzalez, and the American lawyer who represented Elian's father.
Well worth the time, if you have a chance to see a rerun on CNN.
Glad to hear that Berea is blue; I've had many a pleasant stop at the Boone Tavern
and more recently at the Artisan Center just off I-75.
Well, there are some very large problems with our government.
We, who pride ourselves on our Constitution, have discovered that certain articles written into our Constitution have created and will continue to create inequities that deliver to us elected officials that are not the choice of the American voters.
I'm referring to 1. the electoral college, and 2. two Senators from each state, regardless of the population of the state.
It's too big a subject to get into at this moment for me, but you likely get my gist.
